What did you do?

When I get downstairs, I ask if either of the guys if they want to shower off after swimming this afternoon. Mentioning that I think that my brother Alex's clothes may fit them. Rex says he would, but Garret looks uneasy.

"I will pass for now," Garret replies.

"Fair enough," I reply. "Want something to drink?" Rex is making his way upstairs, as I head for the kitchen.

"Sure, what are the options," Garret asks. He gets off the couch, following me into the kitchen. We find Jackie digging the cookies and cream ice cream out of the freezer.

"Some how I knew you would get into the ice cream stash," I tease her. She sticks her tongue out at me. We both laugh.

"Can't be helped," Jackie chuckles.

"Well you can always make a shake," I say. "Garret want a shake? Or there is water, milk, soda, or some juice in there. My parents like to stock up the fridge since they know Jackie and I usually hangout here after school."

"That's if I'm not with Rex," she says.

"True, but sometimes we all end up here." I comment. "So what's your poison?" Garret walks over to the fridge to look as Jackie and I scoop out ice cream into bowls. Bane sits down next to Jackie and I watching for any ice cream that happens to fall. I drop a spoonful to him, that he snatches out of the air and pants for more. Garret grabs a can of cola and closes the fridge door.

"Are your parents not home much?" Garret asks me.

"They work in the city so they normally aren't here until the evening." I inform him, notes of sadness creeps in my voice. "My mother used to be a stay at home mom, but that changed once we got my siblings and I got older. What about your parents?"

"My mom is usually off at the gym or a book club," Garret says, as I put the tub of ice cream back in the freezer. "Dad is usually at work, his schedule is all over the place."

"That must be hard," I say, whilst we walk back to the living room. "Do you have any siblings to keep you company when they are away?"

"My older brother is back in New York, at college." He says, as we all sit on the over sized couch. I sit in the middle of both of them. Bane sits on the other side of the coffee table watching Jackie and I eat.

"I bet you miss him," I tell him.

"We still text off and on," he tells us. "He wasn't happy that our parents moved clear across the country."

"I'm sorry you had to move so far away," Jackie tells him.

"It is what it is," he says with a heavy sigh. "Well lets talk about something that isn't such a mood killer."

"Should we invite him to go to the club with us in a few weeks?" Jackie whispers into my ear, I nod.

"Would you want to go to Fée de la Forêt with us?" I ask him.

"What is that?" He asks, furrowing his brow.

"A newish club in the city," Jackie informs him. "It's said to be best place to go and let loose."

"Most of the school has been talking about it." I add, "it is a fairy themed club, that they take the name very seriously." A smile crosses my face just thinking about it. Garret just raises a questioning eye brow at me.

"Like childhood fairytale fairies?" Garret inquires, "or the gruesome fairies of folklore?"

"As in changeling type fairies," says I. "Interested? We, including Rex, are going to go there in a few weeks."

"Do you have to dress as a fairy?"

"No, even they can make themselves look human," Jackie says, rolling her eyes.

"Sure, why not?" Garret says and smiles at me.

"It would be fun to dress in fairy core though," I whisper to Jackie, who laughs.

"I know," she giggles softly. "I bet they would be all over us if we did." Garret shifts uncomfortably next to me.

Rex enters the room to Jackie and I whispering about what we plan to wear. Garret is watching the music video that was playing. He sits down in the recliner close to the entry way. "What are they whispering about?"

"The club they plan to go to." Garret informs him.

"Ah the fairy club," Rex gets it now. "Jackie has been wanted to go there since they heard about it from Alyssa. It sounds like the inside looks like an actual forest. I take it, they asked you to come along?"

"Yeah," Garret answers. "Maybe it will be fun." He shrugs, his legs rubs up against mine. Goosebumps creep through my body. I look over at him, his head is turned toward Rex. I turn back to look at a picture of an outfit Jackie was looking at for the club. The picture is of a green corset top, dress with a flowing gauzy mini skirt. The model was wearing gladiator sandals that wrapped up her calves, her ears had a slight point. Glitter covers her cheeks.

"I think it will look good on you," I tell her. "Did you see any that were dark red?"

"I saw one before this one," she says, scrolling down to find the red one she saw. "Ah, here it is," she taps on the picture. The picture is of a deep blood red halter top with a pleaded choppy edged mini skirt. The model wearing this outfit had red glitter on her cheeks, red contacts, and dark red vine like sandals that snake up her legs.

"That's beautiful," I say. "Send me the link, and pray that it shows up in time."

"I hope so too." she sighs. "Bet we will be among the best dressed there."

"Ugh, I can't wait " I sigh, day dreaming of dancing in the forest within the club.

Fog covering the floor, trees edging the dance floor, under the ceiling that mirrors the sky. Oak tables are on the other side of the trees, each table is light by large candles in the center. Humans and fairies of all kinds fill the club. Pulsing music moves the sea of club goes, I see my friends a few feet in front of me. I feel a soft warm sensation on my neck as a deep voice whispers in my ear, "two of them will betray you."

My heart races, I feel a large hand clasp on to my shoulder. The fire of the candles burns brighter. I can feel a power coursing through me.

"That's it," the deep voice whispers in my other ear. "Draw on your anger, feed the fire within you."

"Rayne?" Jackie's voice rings out.

I close my eyes, when I open them I'm back in the room.

"Sorry about that," I apologize to her.

"Did you not get enough sleep again?" Jackie asks, knowing I have a tendency to zone out when I can't sleep.

"That must be it," I chuckle, not sure of what I just saw. I don't think I fell asleep, since I was sitting in the same spot when I started to zone out. It felt so real, I never felt like that in a dream. Well, when I have dreams that is. Jackie buys it and goes back to looking at outfits. I look up at the TV to see "Bring your daughter to the slaughter" by Iron Maiden start playing.

My heart beats in the rapid beat of the song. Bane tilts his head at me, walking around the table to me. His warm wet tongue licks my hand, and whines at me. "Do you need to go out?"

He wags his tail, I excuse myself and walk with Bane to the back yard. The fresh air hits my lungs in a calming wave. Bane jumps around the back yards before finding a spot to pee. I turn around to give him privacy, Lightning jumps clouds above the house. Thunder booms over head, Bane runs towards me. My hair stands on end as lightning surges through me. The force tightens my muscles, freezing me where I stand. Bane is blown back from me.

"Bane!" I scream, but nothing comes out. In the blink of an eye an black figure catches him and places him softly on the ground before vanishing again. Everything else seems to be in slow motion. The thunder roars through my bones, shaking my ear drums violently.

The next thing I know, Bane is licking my face to wake me up. A shadow covers my face, my vision is blurry enough I can't make out any facial features. Blinking to help my eyes focus the figure vanishes from view again.

"Maybe I need to go lay down?" I tell Bane, sitting up. My head spins, I place my hands on my head. Bane moves to my side, I get up and he stays at my side as we walk up to the house. Feeling eyes on me from the tree, I spin around to see the dark figure vanish from the tree. "I really must be sleep deprived, Bane. I keep seeing things."

"Two will betray you," whispers the wind. Shivers run down my spine and Bane and I run inside. Once inside, I slam the door shut behind us, locking it. My heart is pounding in my ears.

"Rayne?" Jackie calls, racing into the kitchen. "Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost." Her face filled with worry. I close my eyes, taking deep breathes, trying to calm my racing heart. The face of a dark skinned man with high cheekbones, piercing green eyes bore into me. His ears come to a soft point, a strong jawline. Dark brown hair is styled in spikes all over his head. His lips curl up in a wicked grin. He feels familiar some how.

I open my eyes and slump down to the floor. Jackie drops down on her knees in front of me, drawing me in for a hug. My body trembles as I hugs her back. "I think I need to lay down." My voice comes out as a weak whisper.

"What happened?" I hear Rex ask, his foot steps along with Garret's patter on the tile floor.

"Two will betray you," says the same voice. I look up, behind Garret towers the dark faceless figure. Bane growls at the figure, Garret jumps back thinking he is the one Bane has his sights on. The figure moves to the right of Garret, Bane follows him. I whistle at Bane, drawing the figures attention back to me. Bane sits, stops growling, but keeps his eyes trained on the figure in the room.

In a blink of an eye the figure is gone again. With Jackie's help I get to my feet. "Is it Gabriel again?" Jackie asks, bringing forth a flood of memories of the imaginary friend I had as a child. I shake my head, my imaginary friend's presence never felt so suffocating.

"I don't know what it is," I whisper back. My body hurts from the events outside.

"You're forehead is bleeding," she informs me. I reach up and touch the sticky crimson blood that has making it's way down my forehead. We hear Garret rush over to the sink and pukes.

"Sorry, Garret," I say, holding a hand over the cut, on my way to the bathroom down the hall. In the bathroom, I clean the cut and cover it with a bandaid.
