Brave Slave

This was a story of an old times,

Here Money lenders make them slaves who is unable to pay their debts on time. Once there was a money lender in a Dharampura village. He had a debtor ‘Shayam’ who lived with his wife and his sixteen year old son. One morning, Shayam’s wife starts crying so loudly that soon everyone gathers in their house. Villagers witnessed that Shayam was lying on the floor dead. Money lender also got the news and came to the Shayam’s house. Everyone was sorrowful on his death except the Money lender. He was trying to find another way to recover his loan. He decided to make Shayam’s son his slave for the rest of his life.

SHAYAM’S WIFE: please don’t take my son with you. As you had seen I had lost my husband. Now, I can’t live without my son. We’ll pay all the debt pending on us.

MONEY LENDER: I’m sorry. According to the rules, I have to take your son with me because I don’t think you’ll able to pay your debt. I regret it, but I have to commit this sin by placing a stone on my heart.

SHAYAM’S WIFE: despite knowing that she never saw her son again. She agrees on Money lender’s words.

Despite being in the same village, Bhola (Shayam’s son) didn’t get to meet his mother as the Money lender used to make him work hard day and night. Bhola feels homesickness. He wanted to get freedom from slavery. One day, he gathered all his courage and talk to the Money lender for his freedom.

MONEY LENDER: what happened? Why didn’t you go on work today? Are you sick?

BHOLA: no, but if this continues, it will happen soon and then I’ll be of no use to you.

MONEY LENDER: what do you mean? Say it clearly.

BHOLA: it’s clear that I don’t want to be your slave anymore. My mom is not well. She needs me. I miss her and want to meet her.

MONEY LENDER: hey mad, that’s all. I, your boss give a day off to you.

BHOLA: no, I want my freedom back. I know that you had given us loan and we couldn’t refund our debt. But this doesn’t mean that you have bought all our lives.

Money lender didn’t want to argue with a slave. So, he agreed to Bhola’s statement. But in order to get his freedom Bhola had to accomplish a dangerous task. Let’s see what was the task given to him by the Money lender?

MONEY LENDER: have you heard about the lion, who lives in a cave on village outskirts?

BHOLA: yes, tell me what I have to do?

MONEY LENDER: relax young man, your task is going to be dangerous and you poor, going to be so dead.

You have to catch the lion and imprison him in his own cave. Not only this, you have to come back alive. Then you get your freedom.

The slave (Bhola) went to the deep forest through roads and deserts to fulfill the last order of his BOSS. Finally, he reached to the lion’s cave.

He heard terrible roar of a lion coming out from the cave. He got terrified and started thinking that he was not able to fight and win with lion. Then he realises that he doesn’t have another option. He had to do this for him and for his mom. Suddenly, he remembered a lesson given by his mom that “one who cannot be defeated by force must be defeated with wisdom”. So, he called lion out of its cave. Lion came out from the cave.

BHOLA: {asked in a polite way} you are the king of this forest then, why do you live in this poor cave?

LION: cave is comfortable and good for me and I can show it to you.

BHOLA: ooh! Yes please show your cave from inside. I don’t want the forest king to leave here.

Both together went inside the cave. Bhola asked the lion to go ahead, he’ll come after him because he knew that if he enters before the lion then he’ll not get time to run away. Firstly, lion roared and said, “no, you will come along with me otherwise you will escaped from here.

BHOLA: May be it’s possible, but I cannot run faster than you.

He said, ‘you are the king. He doesn’t want to disrespect THE KING.” On this statement the lion agreed. The lion busy in his thought of delicious food starts moving inside the cave. Bhola come out quickly and quietly. He closed the mouth of the cave with sharp thorns. In this way, the lion king, got prisoned in its own cave and then he never came out from his prison. Money lender was shocked on seeing him alive and as per his words. Money lender had to forgive their debt and Bhola was no more his slave. After this incident BHOLA didn’t even get his freedom but he renowned as a “BRAVE SLAVE”. The slave, who was brave enough to achieve his freedom and got his family free from debt. IN THE END, he goes to the cathedral to thank the god for his deed and lived happily with his mother and wife ever after.
