Alexander decided to help his brother, who lacks the morale to ask Nina for anything.
"Nina, I think it's best for you to settle in and rest with Camila there right away. Grandfather said your friend will accompany you, so on Sunday you'll be more relaxed and ready to go to the Ugarte company looking composed," said his brother-in-law calmly, as he always is.
Nina looked at Alexander and nodded. The younger ones went to the bedroom to gather Nina's clothes and pack them. It wasn't a lot since she was only going to the wedding, but now things seemed to have become complicated.
Alonzo and Máximo placed Nina's suitcases in the car and they would pass by Camila's house to pick up her belongings.
As they left Camila's house, who had no problems with her parents when she told them she would be living elsewhere, as they were too occupied with their glamorous lives to care about their daughter's affairs, everyone headed towards La Glorieta. Maximiliano decided to clarify some things.
"Nina, it will take a while to repair the room in the mansion. The fire reached the roof, damaging it a bit. I will stay in my apartment for a few days while you and Camila settle in. There are three guest rooms; the others are for games, gyms, studies, and tea rooms. My nanny, Gloria, decorated them with Celia. If there's something you don't like, you can change it. Nanny Gloria knows where everything was purchased and it could be replaced with something more to your liking," said Maximiliano, as he fixed his gaze on the road.
"Alright," said Nina, while looking out of the car window in the back seat. She didn't want to sit in the passenger seat; she was still terribly upset about what had happened.
Everyone arrived at the mansion and Nina and Camila helped Maximiliano unload the suitcases. Antonio the gardener hurried to help, and so did Filiberto. He was thrilled to see Maximiliano's young wife back. In the morning, it seemed like that marriage was destined to fail.
Nina entered the place and was greeted by nanny Gloria, who looked at her with seriousness and distant behavior.
"It is a pleasure to see you again, ma'am," Gloria said with antipathy, something that Nina didn't care much about.
"Where are the guest rooms?" Nina asked without greeting. She was tired, annoyed, and had no energy to be polite to someone who didn't deserve it.
Nanny Gloria frowned and before speaking, she heard Maximiliano's voice.
"Gloria, my wife and her friend will stay in the guest rooms. I will return when my room is ready. Prepare dinner and help them unpack," Maximiliano turned around to leave. He didn't want to bother Nina more than usual; she already hated him too much and didn't want to add any more faults to her list.
Nina and Camila looked at Gloria, who understood the situation but still seemed confused.
"The guest rooms are at the far end of the second floor," she said as she approached to help with the suitcases.
"It's not necessary. My friend and I can unpack by ourselves. You can leave, Mrs. Gloria. I won't need you," said Nina as she entered with the suitcases, followed by Antonio and Filiberto, leaving Gloria standing there like a tree.
The girls entered a room, and Nina asked her friend to stay with her for a few days. She didn't want to sleep alone, and Camila understood perfectly.
The spacious closet had enough space for both of them, so they arranged their belongings there and then went downstairs to cook something to eat. Nina realized she had hardly eaten all day, and for the first time since the previous day, her stomach growled.
They cooked more relaxed. Nina was in a better mood, and Camila was happy to see her more recovered. She didn't want to admit it, but Max was right. Being away from her house and him being absent made Nina feel calmer.
As they were about to finish, Gloria arrived at the place, confused.
"Sra. Nina, you should have called me so I could prepare something for you. It is my duty to attend to you," Gloria said, a little annoyed and surprised. The kitchen was impeccably clean despite the fact that the lady of the house had cooked. It seemed that she was extremely independent, and that was indeed the case. Nina, having lived alone for so many years, had marked living habits, and it was evident that she didn't need anyone to survive.
"Sra. Gloria, it is clear that you do not like me, but I want to tell you that I am not interested either. I don't need to be attended by someone who is upset by me. I prefer you not to do it. You can take a vacation until Maximiliano returns to attend to him then. On the other hand, I would rather not be around your negative energy," Nina said calmly, while Rosa and Gabi, the cleaning ladies, giggled quietly. They liked the new lady of the house, particularly for being young and confident.
Nana Gloria looked at her incredulously and then became upset by Nina's audacity.
"But I can't do that. I have orders to attend to the lady of the house, be it the owner or the substitute," she said indignantly.
"Well, I don't want you around with that attitude. If you are dissatisfied with me, go complain to Celia. She was the one who ran away and left me with this problem. When she comes back, I'll give her back her husband and her house decorated to her liking. So, you know, I won't accept even a glass of water from you. Your presence doesn't matter to me, just don't bother me," Nina said, defiantly staring into Gloria's eyes, leaving her stunned.
