Leona relinquished control to the wolf within and leapt over the railing, landing on the ground before dashing into the trees, headed toward the direction of her father's pack. She ran for hours, unconcerned about being followed, certain that no harm would come her way, for none would dare challenge her might and power – she was not an omega, but an Alpha, and a very powerful one at that.
As she neared the village outskirts, she stayed undetected, her steps light and stealthy. She circled the settlement, silently taking down each of the sentinels she encountered. She inhaled deeply, familiarizing herself with the scents and seeking the trail of her pup. She moved past every dwelling until she reached the Alpha’s house, where she heard her infant's cries and the Alpha's command to silence her or remove her from his presence.
The white she-wolf waited, knowing that if they came out with her offspring, she could snatch her away. But no such chance came and, to her surprise, she felt a massive, black wolf pounce on her, biting her neck. She submitted, staying still as she heard his growl and the voice in her mind.
— "I knew you would come for your daughter. All I had to do was wait. I just didn't expect a beautiful white wolf. Welcome home, my daughter."
She growled back at him, and he bit down harder to make her calm, then released her. Leona thought about attacking, but found herself restrained by silver shackles attached to chains, rendering escape impossible. She felt herself being carried off, utterly immobilized, to a prison in the basement of the Alpha’s mansion. She tried to howl, but her jaws were tied, and she knew it would be futile; no one would come to her aid.
The Alpha returned to his human form, put on his pants that were always kept near the cells, and made his way to his daughter.
— "You’re free now, revert to your human form," he commanded, tossing some clothes into her cell.
She shifted and dressed, her breasts leaking milk. The Alpha watched her and ordered the whimpering infant to be brought to her to nurse.
— "Look who's come to see mommy," said the Alpha, opening the cell to let the servant in with the baby.
Leona stood, ready to embrace her daughter, who stopped crying the moment she sensed the smell of her mother’s milk. Her mother picked her up and brought her to her breast for feeding. Leona watched her daughter’s desperation to latch onto the nipple and suckle fiercely upon finding it. She sat on the bunk, cradling her little one, pressing her nose to her tiny head, memorizing her scent.
She hardly noticed when the Alpha, her progenitor, left and locked the cell. All she desired was to bond with her child, to cradle her in her arms and soothe her to sleep. Now that her wolf had declared itself ready to protect her daughter, she felt strong and capable, prepared to uncover and confront the sinister situation she suspected was unfolding.
Several hours passed since Leona had been incarcerated and caring for her daughter when some food was finally brought to her. The servant, who brought the tray, looked at her with sorrowful eyes, which Leona found unsettling. Sensing that she was about to be questioned, the servant gestured for silence, placing her finger on her lips, and pushed the tray under the bars into the cell.
Leona approached the tray, leaving her baby on the bunk in the blanket she was brought in. As she did, the servant moved closer to whisper.
— "You must flee; this place isn't safe for your little one. She's beautiful, and the Alpha has done horrific things to the female pups."
— "I can imagine. He banished me, his own daughter. I will protect my daughter, rest assured," Leona replied.
— "I'll help you. Tonight, they are conducting a moon ritual and will be drunk on the witch's brew. I will come for the pup in a basket and when I open the cell, follow me. I will take you to safety. Then, you must leap at me and escape."
— "Alright, I will wait for you," Leona felt wary, her past dealings with malevolent people made her skeptical.
As a child and teenager, she had been abused and betrayed by her own father, who had sold her to a wealthy man wanting a pet wolf. When she didn't shift, he beat her and cast her out of the pack for ruining his plans.
She ran until she collapsed but was found by the Alpha who mercilessly claimed her, mating with her without even looking in her face. The bite mark remained on her shoulder, which is why she never wore strapless or low-cut clothes, so no one would see it. She managed to escape while he was hunting and, ironically, was found by the man who had bought her from her father.
Fortunately, he didn't abandon her, took her to his house where he lived alone, and cared for her. When he learned she was pregnant, he married her, still hoping for a wolf of his own. He hadn't expected a wolf pregnancy to be so short and became enraged, as those who knew him would suspect the child wasn't his.
During her time there, she discovered the man's true nature, who had two particularly special rooms in the house. One was a lab for monthly exams, claiming to monitor the pregnancy. The other, a true chamber of horrors for her. He taught her its purpose and practiced bizarre sexual acts, careful not to harm her due to the precious child she carried.
She noticed him receiving large boxes, which he took to his office. Out of curiosity, she once peeked inside and found jars with preserved infant body parts in formaldehyde.
She was caught snooping and dragged out, her hair yanked, and for the first time, she screamed ceaselessly until her voice was lost. Tied at the wrists and hoisted by a chain, she was whipped until his house was invaded.
Now, reminiscing, she realized the Alpha's wolves must have been watching the house and acted when they heard her screams. What baffled her was why he hadn't sought her out sooner, as she was pregnant with his child. With so many odd occurrences, it wasn't a gentle whisper that would convince her to accompany him, should he try.
