My stomach starts to ache as I continue to laugh, wanting to give him some credit for genuinely making me laugh since I've been dealing with enough stress lately in the hospital. My eyes wander to meet Aidan's, seeing that he's just looking at me, expressionless. "Okay, Aidan. I think it's too early for a birthday prank, but where are the cameras?" I ask, my eyes wandering around the cafe, seeing that most of the people here are looking at us. Everyone is shaking their heads as they turn to look away, leaving me to my own confusion. "White people," someone says, quietly. With an acoustic version of One Direction's History playing in the background, I'm beginning to realize that Aidan has done nothing but look at me. His lips hadn't curved into a smile or burst into laughter like he would always react whenever he made a silly joke. It is exactly how the employees would describe it. Expressionless. Bored. Evil. Maybe, I exaggerated the last one but that was all they said... but, he has never reacted that way towards me. Not even once. I lean back in my seat, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear as my brows furrow. Deep down, I'm starting to realize how uncomfortable I'm starting to feel, most likely with the look on his face and the way he's sitting there while I was busy bursting out laughing. "You're done?" he asks, pointing to my sudden outburst. Both of his brown eyes are looking directly into mine, making me feel a little awkward to make more eye contact; he's been my best friend for years, he's never felt this way around him except now. "You're not kidding... are you?" I ask, my voice low and almost inaudible as I lean forward, not wanting anyone else to. I lean forward, not wanting anyone else to hear our conversation but him. Then he too leans forward, his face inches from mine. "No," he replies before bowing. back "Wrong answer. Take that back," I murmur before leaning back and mentally slapping myself. My brows continue to furrow as his lips curve into a smile, leaving me with the urge to just punch his face to turn his smile around. "Why would I joke about this? Actually, Kenna... I'm actually very serious, but you managed to surprise me. I didn't expect a reaction like that when I ask someone to marry me," he replies as he says. he leans back, watching my every move, leaving me frustrated. As I slam my hands on the table, "You're asking me to marry you, for God's sake. How do you expect me to react? Jump for joy? You're crazy," I keep saying earlier. I crossed my arms in disbelief, still capturing people's attention. "If you're not going to marry him, I will." Thewaitress says as she serves our food, her two dark brown eyes darting up at him before turning to look at me. The dark glow of his skin makes me slightly envious as I frown at my own tanned skin. Without further ado, my eyes are glued to Aidan… looking slightly surprised. "Do you want to marry her?" I ask, pointing to the waitress standing next to our table. She has her right hand on her hip before looking at Aidan who seems speechless. In fact, everyone in the cafe has turned to look at us, all of them remaining silent. Aidan clears his throat, "No. No, Thank you." "Well, if you ever change your mind…you know where to find me," he adds before turning to walk back into the kitchen, causing everyone else to continue what they were doing earlier as Aidan and I look at each other. fixedly. . I quickly down my water to my last sip as he watches me, letting me take my time. As I continue to drink, I raise my right index finger as a signal for him to wait. After putting down the glass, he starts to gasp, which leaves him smiling at me. "I can't breathe," he mumbled. "Fine. I'll give you a minute to breathe," he replies before taking a bite of his sandwich, chewing it slowly. Both of his eyes never leave mine, but he continues to eat his food while he continually checks the watch on his wrist. Aidan must have lost his mind. He never reacted this way nor did he take our friendship to the next level; we have always been friends. Close friends and I'm pretty sure we both wanted it to last that way, except for now. He is acting different. Everything around me seems to disappear as I'm left alone, trying to figure out what the hell is going on with my life. This morning, I woke up praying for a better reason to wake up every other day than to wake up for coffee, but I didn't expect this. God must have been confused about my prayer "Can you breathe, now?" He asks, snapping me out of my thoughts as I glance at his plate, seeing that he's finished his sandwich. When he doesn't get a response from me, he starts to sigh. "You should have listened to my explanation first because you're exaggerating," he continues, glancing at his phone to check the time before turning to look at me again. "Is there an explanation for this?" 1 ask. "There's an explanation for everything. If only you didn't jump to conclusions then, you really would have understood more. The reason I'm asking you to marry me is because I want you to help me," he replies. "And you're also the only one who can help." "In what way is marrying you…useful?" I roll my eyes, which makes me raise an eyebrow. "I mean, don't get me wrong, Aidan, but you're asking me to marry you when you've only ever seen me ***** when I was eight.or years and it wasn't even pleasant," I told him, remembering the memory when he accidentally walked into the bathroom when my mother was giving me a bath. She laughs: "That memory will stain my mind forever." Then, he clears his throat, "But that's not the point, listen... if you're not going to marry me, I'll be forced to marry Shin-hye. You know how she is, right?" She shakes her head, shrinking. I laughed, "She's Korean. I don't think that's a problem," I frowned remembering the night he went on a date with Shin-hye because his mother forced him and the situation was forcing him too. . ...her mother took her to her office when he was leaving. "What does that mean? I can't marry her...we can't even communicate without a fucking translator," she leans back after sighing deeply while I'm too busy laughing at the memory of her calling me continuously. that night, complaining about the horrible date. “Apparently my mother fell in love with her culture and she wanted me to marry a Korean,” she adds.
