The illegitimate princess

Love noises was heard everywhere.

"You disgusting woman, If you weren't beautiful I wouldn't have payed attention to you." The emperor said and stopped.

"Your majesty, please let me go" A woman pleaded.

"How useless. Leave!" The emperor shouted in rage.

Years passed.

My mother, who was forced to **** **** with the emperor gave birth to me, Charlotte winter. My mother was always chased by the Royal knights and was forced to go into hiding.

"Mom, Did the prince and the princess live happily ever after?" Charlotte innocently asked.

"Every story says so. But this is a unique story. The princess left the prince and eloped with her secret lover." My mom smiled.

"Why? The prince loved her though" I said.

"No, The prince forced her to do something she didn't want that's why she ran away." My mom said. There were tears on her eyes.

"So the prince do not deserve the princess?" I asked. I looked up to my mom, searching for an answer.

"No, The princess is the one who did not deserve the prince" Mom said.

I only stared at my mom, confused.

Back then, I didn't understand those words.

The princess is my mom, the prince is my dad and the lover – was me.

"Mom, what if you were secretly a princess?" I asked.

"My daughter, If there would be a princess on one of us, it might be you" My mom chuckled. Her eyes was a bit gloomy but she put on a smiling mask on her.

I always thought it was nothing.

She was always teasing me.

But, all of her words reflects on her life.

I regret it.

If i just realized sooner, I would have saved her.

"Mom! Mom! Looked at this flower crown! Isn't it beautiful?" I asked.

"Of course" My mom smiled.

She looked a bit tense earlier but it seems like she was more relaxed now.

My mom really liked flowers.

"My dream is to have a very, very big garden! This huuuuge!!" I shouted.

"And then, every kind of flowers will be here. so that mom will always smile and I could make flower crowns for you everyday" I smiled.

"My daughter, I love you. If the day comes that I will have to leave this world, Take care of yourself and always remember that I love you" Mom said and smiled.

"Will mom go to another universe?" I said. I know what she meant but I pretended to be innocent.

At a young age I could not bare to hear my mom telling me that.

"Mom, I'll be leaving! I have to go to the forest and get some apples. I noticed mom is having a hard time searching for food" I smiled.

"Be careful" Mom said. She worries a lot.

Perhaps the reason why is because she was always being chased. By the darkness, and by the emperor.

She was always chased.

If I wasn't lost that time, Would I have saved her?

If I wasn't gone for weeks because I was lost and had hurried back home, would I be able to protect her in time?

I came back home. With blood on the floor. My mom lying on the floor full of wounds. And her eyes opened wide without blinking.

she was no longer alive.

I just froze.
