Peter ended the call with a sigh, knowing he had to keep the secret at least for a while longer, until he figured out how to bring up the mafia business with Nick.
"Everything okay?" he asked.
"I might need to head to the city on business; there's been an issue," he replied.
"If you have to go, then go," Nick reassured him. "I can manage with the kids; my family's here."
Peter pressed his forehead to Nick's. "Thank you, my love."
"It's your job; I have to be understanding. You have a life beyond here."
"I promise I won't be gone long."
"Okay, I'll get started on dinner."
Nick went to prepare dinner, the kids watched television, and Peter called Francisco to let him know he'd be coming to the city the next day. After sorting things out, he went to the kitchen and saw Nick. Embracing him from behind, Peter planted soft kisses on Nick's neck.
"I can't cook like this," Nick laughed.
"Mmmm," Peter murmured while Nick protested playfully, "Ha, ha, you're tickling me!"
They finished cooking together, set the table, and called the kids for dinner.
They dined as a family, tucked the children into bed, and then went to sleep themselves.
Sleeping in each other's arms had become a habit for Peter and Nick.
The next morning, they showered, dressed, and got ready. Peter donned a tight blue suit that made him look incredibly attractive, while Nick got the kids ready for daycare. They had breakfast, dropped the kids off, took Nick to the hospital, and then Peter set off for the city.
After a few hours' drive, Peter arrived in the city and went straight to his company. All the employees, especially the women, couldn't help but stare.
Upon reaching his office, he spoke to his secretary. "Call Francisco," he ordered.
"Hello boss," came the reply.
"Tell me what my idiot cousin did," Peter demanded.
"The lost shipment was the guns," Francisco reported.
"How many?"
"Half."
"What an idiot. Gather the men; we'll head to the warehouse," Peter directed.
Francisco had already found out who the traitor was among his cousin's men. When they arrived at the warehouse:
"Cousin?"
"Samuel."
"Well, I don't know what happened; we were ambushed."
"You need to be more careful choosing your men," Peter advised as he walked up to a young man, pulled out his gun, and shot him in the head. "This was the rat."
"Ash, I should've known. Well, what can you do?"
"Do you know who it was?"
"Yes, Manuel Garcia."
"The Mexicans?"
"That's them."
"When do we go?"
"Tonight. I have things to do tomorrow."
Everyone got into the vans and drove to the Mexicans' territory where the stolen weapons were. Upon arrival, they opened fire, eliminating everyone there, reclaiming the stolen weapons, and returning to the wedding.
All were unharmed. "What do you say we celebrate? I've got some new girls," one of the men suggested.
"No thanks. I'm going to rest; I leave early tomorrow," Peter declined.
Back at his apartment, after a shower, Peter made a video call. Three faces appeared onscreen.
"Hello, dad?"
"Hey, my little devils, how's papi?"
"He's cooking. When are you coming back?"
"I'll be there tomorrow."
"Great, kisses!"
"Hello, love."
"Hi Nick, how was it with your business?"
"Everything went well, no problems."
"Good. Tomorrow, I start my surgical specialization, so I'll be on call."
"Fine, don't worry. I'll be there to take care of the kids. Until tomorrow, kisses and take care, my love."
