. The sun beamed bright at the Brownson mansion and the flowers in the garden were blooming at the fresh morning. Another day had shown It's face with the start of another day with unexpected activities. Edward had just boarded his black Jaguar and started the engine once he received his car keys from the Butler.
"Have a nice day young master?", Butler Lewis, an average man dressed in suit said sincerely.
" Hum." , was Edward's only responded, before he drove out of the iron bar gate. 'A nice day?' he thought and wondered if his day would really end up as expected by Butler Lewis. He had already spent half of his night trying to suppress his thoughts about Whitney. He couldn't help pondering about her as he lay on his bed. He couldn't imagine how a stranger to him was occupying a lot space in his mind and the more he tried to get her out of his mind, the more she invaded his mind. Edward sighed and thought to himself, maybe he was unwillingly to get her out of his mind after all, because of his hungry curiosity about the girl in particular.
"Daddy, will you pick me up from school ?", the little girl who had been buckled behind on her sit finally spoke and snapped her father out of his thoughts. He was so indulged with his thoughts that he nearly forgot about the little girl.
" Of course princess, I'll try my best to come early and pick you up from school. "
"Then, can we have ice-cream afterward?"
"As my princess wishes.", Edward said, which made the little girl's mood to change into a bubbly and as exciting one. Edward thought it would be a good idea for him to spend a little more time with his daughter. Not that he doesn't usually spend time with her, because right from birth, Clara has always been his priority.
The little girl had the bad luck of obtaining a mother who didn't care about her well being. She was so little and wasn't able to experience the feeling of having a mother. The instant a flash of hope occurred for her to finally feel a mother's warmth, she lost that hope even before she could understand the presence of a mother in her life.
Left as a single daddy, Edward did his best to carry both responsibilities of a mother and a father. He could have decided to get married and give the little girl a mother, but his last relationship left him unwilling to give another try, let alone, permit a woman to approach his daughter and him. No other female visited his home apart from Rachel and Clara's nanny.
His life as a single daddy maybe had flaws and at times he wondered if he had really achieved something and if he had been a good father all these years.
"Bye daddy, see you soon.", Clara waved a good bye to her father when he helped her out of the car. Her smile was so radiant, pure and innocent ; the same smile he wanted to protect at all cost. Maybe as a father he hadn't been the perfect one, but when he looked at Clara's radiant smiles there's nothing more he needs. Winning her smile was maybe an Oscar to him.
Edward waved at his daughter and drove away, ignoring the comments of the mothers who were practically praising his beauty and wishing to bear a child for him. They were openly wishing to be with him, but he felt their praises as disgust. ' Weren't this women married ?' he thought and let out a sigh as he drove towards the campus where he had to pick up some few things.
He was peacefully driving his car and listening to some few songs of Selena Gomez, Diamond and perfect by John Legend. He wasn't quite a fan of those musicians, but each of their songs brought a picture of Whitney in his mind. Edward tightened his grip on the steering wheel and thought he might really be going crazy with those thoughts that didn't want to leave him, or maybe he was reluctant to let go of the thoughts itself. 'Why?' , he couldn't give an answer to himself and maybe his thirsty curiosity was overwhelmingly taking over him. Curious about the mysteries behind Whitney.
Edward gently packed his car in the school parking and made his way towards his office. Little did he expect he would be welcomed by the dashing apathetic beauty that made his heart skip a beat . Like always her beautiful pair of baby blue eyes were devoid of emotions as she walked between people, avoiding their gaze and their presence no matter how towering they were. Edward had wanted to avert his eyes away from her, but he was bedazzled by her alluring beauty.
'Damn it'
b Edward yelled at himself for letting himself so much influenced by the girl's presence when she seemed to be despising everyone around her. ' Was she really despising everyone or just being scared ?' , Edward interoged himself, though he knew that wasn't a question he could personally give an answer to.
Edward's eyes were still fixed on her when he noticed she suddenly halted after a call from behind. It did look like she halted because of that call, but Edward noticed something odd about her expression wasn't that of one who would keep her eyes open any longer. In long strides Edward reached the girl who was at the point of falling. She fell unconscious in his arms, but he couldn't also tell when he reached the girl and caught her firmly on her waist, rather slender. He felt a sharp pain in his chest when he looked at the girl, devoid of life. At that moment, he didn't care about the public or bother interoge himself about the current situation. He was more concerned about the girl he had scooped. For the first time he had her close to him and her fair and smooth skin brushed his body sending a warm heat that invaded his body. He looked at the unconscious girl and agreed inwardly, she was indeed skinny. So skinny and looked so fragile that Edward was scared he might mistakenly break the fair beauty.
"Whitney." Edward stopped mesmerizing the beauty in his arms when KJ approached with a worried look in her eyes.
"Follow me.", Edward told the girl who followed him obediently towards the hospital where Whitney had to receive some few check ups and an IV infusion. Edward couldn't help but watch the sleeping girl through the window, he couldn't get his attention away from her. He could still feel the girl's warmth and little weight hovering over his body. Her fresh peach fragrance was still pleasing to his nose. He felt an urge of walking into her room and holding her hand till she awaken.
" Thank you a lot Mr. Brownson." , Edward was taken aback by the voice that cut through his thoughts. He sighed and blamed himself for being so much overwhelmed by the thoughts of Whitney. He almost forgot that he wasn't alone as he turned to face KJ towering her with his figure.
"What did you say?", Edward asked not being sure he really heard what the girl had said.
" I just wanted to thank you for saving Whitney and as well bringing her to the hospital. Please accept my sincere gratitude. "
KJ expressed her gratitude and not knowing how to respond to her, Edward lightly patted her back.
"Take care, I need to take care of the formalities."
KJ nodded and watched Edward walk pass her. He came back later and they stayed in the hospital for a while, but KJ later went back to get Whitney's things as she would be staying at the hospital for sometime.
Edward sat beside Whitney not being able to part his eyes from her. He looked at her sleeping peacefully but several questions kept erupting in his mind. He really wanted to wake her up so he could hear her voice. He wanted to know more about her, talk to her and ask her questions ; however 'Would she answer his questions if he asked?'
Edward sighed and thought she would obviously not answer him. Who was he to her and who was she to him? Edward couldn't tell why, but he could tell that he was more than intrigued about her. He abruptly glanced at his wrist watch and recalled that he had to pick up Clara from school, but he couldn't leave Whitney's side as well. An idea popped into Edward's mind and he was about to dial a number in his phone, but then he glanced at Whitney who was finally sleeping peacefully after she was frowning with a pale face on the bed for sometime, probably because of a nightmare.
Edward walked out of her room and finally made his phone which was answered after two rings.
"Rachel, can you please do me a favour?" , Edward requested even before Rachel could utter a word at the other line.
"Yeah, what's it that you need me to do?"
"Take my place and pick Clara from school, then take her for an ice-cream treat, will you?" , Edward replied to his friend whom he had alreaddy expected a positive answer from. But it was obvious that she'll need an explanation which wasn't what he could do at that moment.
"OK, at least tell me what came up."
"Later."
'Tut tut tut'
Edward immediately hung up and decided to serve himself some coffee before returning to Whitney's side. Little did he expect that his little dawdling behind could make him lose sight of Whitney. It appeared to him that she had escaped from the hospital even in her condition. Why Whitney escaped was another string of questions that he had about her and the mysteries behind her. Nonetheless, her health and body was feeble, which made it risky for her to be out of the hospital and away from her treatment. Whatever questions he had about her was going to have to wait, saving the girl was the top priority of that moment, so Edward walked his way out in search of her.
