We were silent during the ride, Gael was noticing my nervousness, he looked at me every few seconds.
"Lara, calm down, you don't need to be like this, if what your aunt said is a lie, we can move on," he says.
"It's not as easy for me as it seems to be for you," I reply.
"Believe me, it's not easy for me either, but I'll explain everything to you there," he says.
We were both silent, I took a deep breath and kept telling myself that it was the right thing to do.
We arrived in front of a huge mansion, got out of the car and I held Gael's hand before we entered the mansion.
"I'm very nervous," I say for the thousandth time, and this time he holds my hand and opens the door.
"Relax, I'll be by your side the whole time," he says and we enter.
We walked down a huge hallway, entering a door that led to a huge library, which was breathtaking.
"Wait for me here, I'll be right back," he says.
"You said you wouldn't leave me alone," I say.
"It's just for a second, you won't see anyone without me, I'll be right back," he says.
I nod in agreement, and he leaves, leaving me alone. I look around the entire library, looking at some books that seemed interesting.
I was distracted looking at a book that had caught my attention, I hear the door slowly opening and the sound of some people's footsteps, apparently Gael hadn't come back alone. I close my eyes to gather courage, I needed to do this to know my true story, to know the truth of my life.
"Lara, these are my parents," Gael says.
When I turn to look at Gael and his parents, his mother had a smile on her face, but when she looks at me, she becomes serious and pale, like she's looking at a ghost in front of her.
They are silent and walk over to a table that was there, I also go to the table and sit down, Gael sits beside me, they were still looking at me like I was a ghost. Gael takes my hand under the table and looks me in the eye.
"Tell them what you told me," he says.
I squeeze his hand and tell his parents everything, I tell them in detail, they listen quietly and when I finish, Gael's mother gets up and leaves quickly, his father follows her, both leave without saying a word. Gael gets up and takes a photo album and puts it in front of me.
"I'm going to show you my grandmother when she was about your age," he says, opening the album.
He starts flipping through some pictures of his family, when he stops at one, I stare at the picture with my mouth open, now I knew why it seemed like they were looking at a ghost.
I looked like Gael's grandmother's incarnation, we were identical, the only difference was our hair, just in terms of length.
"She's," I try to form words to describe, but nothing comes out, so Gael finishes.
"Identical to you," he says looking at me. "I'm going to see if my mom is okay and I'll be right back."
When he leaves and I stare at the picture, we were identical, I was startled by how much we had in common, it was surreal, if I wasn't looking at the picture, I would never believe it.
I pick up my cell phone and take a picture of the photograph, I continue looking at some pictures of her, with each picture I was even more impressed, it felt like I was looking at myself in that album.
I keep thinking about how we really are identical. Gael enters the library and sits down next to me again, he then begins to speak.
"My mother is not feeling very well, it was a lot of emotion for her all at once, I should have prepared her before, and my father asked if you would agree to do a DNA test now, it comes out in a few hours. You don't even need to go to the clinic, just collect your saliva and it's fine, do you want to?" he asks.
"Okay," I reply.
We left the library and there was already a doctor in the room waiting for us, which I thought was a little strange, she collected my saliva with a swab and then Gael and I left.
"I'll send you the result as soon as it comes out, okay?" he asks me.
"Okay," I reply.
"I'll take you home," he says.
We went to his car and got in, we were silent the whole way, the atmosphere between us was too weird. When we arrive, he stops at the entrance of the building and looks at me.
"Are you okay?" he asks me.
"It's okay," I reply.
I get out of the car, say goodbye to him, take my bag and go up to my apartment. As soon as I arrive, I go straight to the shower, then I make a quick lunch for myself.
I was apprehensive, I picked up a book to read and not see the time passing slowly, I needed to distract myself.
Vitoria arrives home from work early and comes straight to talk to me, it was already four thirty in the afternoon, she takes a shower and comes back to the living room.
I show her the picture I took from the album, Vitoria is as shocked as I am looking at the picture, she keeps looking from the picture to me and from me to the picture.
Before she could even say anything, I start telling her everything that happened in that mansion, Vitoria was in disbelief and it took her a while to believe what I was saying.
"You are identical, you look like the same person," Vitoria says, very shocked.
