Episode 15

After lunch with the man whose name I even forgot to ask, he took me to my apartment, and we chatted along the way.

"You don't look Brazilian," I said, looking at him as he smiled.

"Is there a certain look for Brazilians?" he asked, laughing.

"Not really, but you don't seem Brazilian," I said.

"I was born in Australia, adopted at the age of 7, and went to live in Brazil. I consider myself Brazilian," he said, looking at me with a smile.

"Your Portuguese is perfect. How old are you now?" I asked.

"My Portuguese is perfect because I've spoken it since I was a child, right? I'm currently 27 years old," he said, focusing on the road.

"You look younger, maybe 24," I said, analyzing him. "I live over there," I said, pointing, and he stopped in front of the building.

"Thank you for the compliment. I really enjoyed talking to you today, Miss... We didn't even introduce ourselves," we started laughing, and he continued, "Gael, my name is Gael," he said, extending his hand.

"Lara," I said, shaking his hand.

As I was getting out, he looked closely at my face.

"You look a lot like someone, but I can't remember who. If I remember, I'll tell you," he said.

"You don't even know if we'll see each other again," I said, getting out of the car.

"I'm sure we will," he nodded.

"It was a pleasure," I said, closing the car door behind me.

"Send your resume online to the Clifford company. It's difficult to get selected, but I know the owner, and I can put in a good word for you," he said.

Before I could say anything, he drove off, and I went up to my apartment. I still hadn't looked at my phone, and when I did, there were several missed calls from Enzo. The time with Gael was so nice that I ended up forgetting about Enzo.

I decided to ignore Enzo and emailed my resume to the Clifford company. As there was nothing else to do, I decided to tidy up the apartment, which was a mess. When I finished tidying up, Vitoria arrived and went to take a shower. I was sitting on the sofa, browsing on my laptop, researching some things about the Clifford family, when Vitoria sat down next to me.

"I saw you leaving the company with a hottie today. Who was he?" she asked with a mischievous tone in her voice, making me laugh.

"Gael, he's from Brazil and came to do some business with Enzo. Can you believe we saw each other in Brazil the day before I came back? One of his friends almost knocked me over, and he was super polite, apologizing for his friend. Today we met at the company, and he invited me to have lunch. We went to a beautiful place, had amazing wine, and ate delicious food. When I went to help him pay the bill, he was offended, said that if he invited me, it was his treat. He brought me home, and we chatted some more, and that was it," I said, and she listened with a smile on her face the entire time.

"You should have seen Enzo's face when you two left. He was coming out of the elevator at that moment; his face was red with anger," Vitoria said as if she were telling the biggest gossip ever.

"He has no right to be angry. We never had anything; it was all a contract, nothing more."

"True, girl, he's the one who lost out," she said.

"I brought dulce de leche; I forgot to tell you," I said, and she got excited.

"Let's make brigadeiro! I knew you wouldn't come back from Brazil empty-handed," I started laughing and went to make some brigadeiro.

The brigadeiro was ready, and after it cooled down, we sat in the living room, watching TV and eating brigadeiro. My phone vibrated, and when I looked, it was an email. Tomorrow I would have an interview at the Clifford company.

"Wow, that was quick!" Vitoria said, looking at my phone.

"Too quick. Gael said he would put in a good word for me at the company to help, but I didn't think it would be this fast," I said, turning off the screen and going back to paying attention to the television.

"Don't you find it strange that you and this Gael keep bumping into each other like this all the time?" she asked.

"It's not all the time, only twice, and both times were a coincidence," I replied, laughing.

Gael was very handsome. He was as tall as Enzo, with dark brown hair, and smooth skin without any stubble, like a teenager's. His smile was enchanting, and his deep voice had an incredible charm, not to mention his scent, a perfume that lingered in your mind.

"What are you thinking about?" Vitoria pulled me out of my thoughts.

"I was just thinking about Gael; he's very handsome," I replied.

"The girls at the company went crazy; he turns heads wherever he goes," Vitoria said.

"I can imagine; he's handsome, smells amazing, and is polite," I said.

"All the girls were dying of envy when you got into his car, especially your supervisor, she almost had a heart attack," Vitoria said with a chuckle.

"That woman is insufferable; anything sets her off. It's a good thing I'll never have to see her again," I said, smiling. "How are things with Bryan?" I asked.

"They're good. He's a real man too, I'm so lucky," she said dreamily.

"He's the lucky one, girl. He's lucky to have you in his life," I said.

"I know, I know. I'm talking about something else; what that man does to me in bed, I can't even explain!" she said, making me laugh.
