Enzo Narrating...
As soon as I arrive at the building, I'm met with an unpleasant surprise. Rachel is waiting for me in the lobby. As soon as she sees me, she smiles.
She walks towards me like a hungry jaguar, stops in front of me, and looks into my eyes.
"My love, I missed you. You haven't sent me any more messages or given me any news," she says in a sweet voice.
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
My brother walks right past us, giving me a judging look. I understand him. Rachel places her hand on my abdomen and pulls our bodies closer. I grab her hand and move our bodies apart, taking a step back.
"Go away, Rachel," I say.
I let go of her hand and walk towards the elevator, not looking back to see if she stayed there or left.
Lara Narrating...
The next day, I wake up early. My cell phone hadn't even gone off yet. I lie in bed until my body is fully awake. When I get up, I go straight to the bathroom to do my morning routine.
After my morning routine and getting ready, I make breakfast. It doesn't take long for Vitoria to wake up.
After breakfast, we go to the company. Vitoria goes straight to her work sector, and I go straight to Enzo's office.
As soon as I arrive at his office, I knock softly on the door. There's no answer, so I knock again, and the answer comes.
"Come in," he says.
"Good morning, sir," I say. He looks at me seriously, and I quickly correct myself. "Good morning, Enzo," I say. He smiles at me, points to the chair in front of him, and I quickly sit down.
"Here's our contract. Read it carefully before signing," he says, handing me some papers.
I take a few minutes to read the contract, agree to all the clauses, and then sign it. He signs it right after.
"Next week, there's a party at my parents' house. It's going to be an event with some very important people. You're coming with me," he says in a completely authoritative tone, which makes me feel a certain attraction to this man.
As I'm about to answer him, someone enters the room, and he sighs. The person sits next to me, and I see it's Bryan.
"Lara, my friend, I heard from Blondie that you were here, and I came to ask you something," he says, smiling at me. "Is there any way you could invite Blondie to a party next week? You guys will love it." I interrupt him.
"Bryan, I'm already going to the party. I'll see if Vitoria wants to go with me and let you know," I say, standing up. "I need to get to work now. Excuse me," I say, leaving the two of them alone.
When I arrive at my work sector, the shrew seems to be waiting for me, looking at me with disdain, arms crossed, and an air of superiority.
"Late, dear. One more tardiness, and you can go straight to HR. I don't know how things work in Brazil, but we don't tolerate that here," she says extremely arrogantly.
"I was in Mr. Bianchi's office," I reply.
"This time, I'll let it slide," she says with an ignorant air, leaving. My desire was to pull her horrible little hair.
The week flies by. Vitoria and I are excited about this party. Our day was very busy because we wanted to be elegant enough for the people at this party so as not to embarrass ourselves. We bought clothes, did our hair, nails, and makeup. We looked beautiful. As the time approached, I got even more nervous. When the time came, I received a message from Enzo saying that he had arrived.
We arrived at the building's entrance, and there were those two statuesque men, as handsome as ever. They are the true epitome of perfection.
We approached them, and Bryan clearly looked Vitoria up and down, drooling over her.
"You two look handsome," I say, looking at both of them.
"They really do," Vitoria agrees with me.
"You two look divinely beautiful," Bryan compliments us.
We get into the car. Enzo opens the passenger door for me to get in. Bryan and Vitoria are in the back seat. We're all silent until the wonderful Bryan decides to drop another one of his wonderful pearls on Vitoria.
"Nervous about our first date?" he asks, making Vitoria laugh.
I immediately imagine a beautiful future for the two of them. Vitoria may be insecure about this now, but soon I'm sure the two of them will start a relationship.
"It's not a date, Mr. Bianchi. I only accepted the invitation to accompany my friend," she replies, smiling.
"To me, it's a date," he says, caressing her face.
We get out of the car all together and enter the party. We immediately receive looks, as I had imagined.
Bryan has his hand on Vitoria's waist and guides her through the huge party hall to a table, where they sit down.
I'm a little nervous. Enzo looks at me and holds my hand. His touch sends a slight, delicious shiver down my spine.
The two of us also sit at the table where Bryan and Vitoria are. Soon, a nice couple, whom I deduce to be the boys' parents, walks towards us.
"Hi, boys. So these are the young ladies?" the boys' mother asks excitedly. "They're beautiful," she says, smiling.
"Mom, this is Lara Sinclair," Enzo says. We introduce ourselves and immediately smile at each other.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," I say.
"Mom, this is Vitoria Antonelli, my future wife and mother of my children," Bryan says, not exaggerating at all.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am," Vitoria says.
There's no time for anyone to say anything else because a beautiful woman approaches, eyeing Enzo up and down.
"Enzo, darling. Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Bianchi," the woman says as she approaches, greeting only Enzo and his parents.
"My dear, how are you? How are your parents?" Mrs. Bianchi asks.
"Mom, Ms. Vintchenzo didn't come here to answer your questions. Her parents are over there talking to some people. Why don't you two go over there together?" Bryan asks in a serious voice.
Vitoria and I look at each other, surprised that Bryan would use that tone of voice with anyone. He's so sweet to everyone.
"Let's go, dear. The boys want to enjoy the company of the girls for a bit. It was a pleasure, ladies," the boys' father says. He takes his wife's hand, and they both leave.
"Wow, Bryan, I didn't know you were so arrogant," Rachel says as soon as the boys' parents walk away.
Bryan's face hardens even more, and his voice becomes even more serious.
"Nobody asked for your opinion. Nobody even invited you here, Rachel," Bryan says, unrecognizable as he speaks to her.
"I just came to talk to Enzo about yesterday when I went to his apartment. Things weren't very clear between us," she says, staring into Enzo's eyes.
Lara looks at Enzo. She lets go of his hand, and at that moment, he turns to her. It's not that she's angry or even jealous. She's just playing her role as Enzo's "girlfriend."
But she is a little disappointed because he's breaking one of the clauses of the contract that stated that neither party could have any relationship until the contract ended, and apparently, he's already breaking that part of the contract.
"Aren't you going to say anything, Enzo?" I ask, facing him and crossing my arms. But then Rachel gets my attention.
"And who are you?" Rachel asks, looking at me.
"I'm the one who should be asking you that. I'm his girlfriend. Who are you? Another one of his past playthings?" I ask just to provoke Rachel, which works, and she turns red with anger. I take advantage of her silence to continue speaking. "You know what? It doesn't matter who you are. I already know all about my boyfriend's past. Honey, I'm going to get a drink," I say and walk away.
I leave, and Vitoria comes with me. A waiter is serving champagne. We each take a glass and go to the table to sit down.
"Come on, friend, now tell me that wasn't jealousy," Vitoria asks, making Lara chuckle.
"It does seem like it, doesn't it, friend? I was just playing the role of the jealous girlfriend. Isn't that what I'm supposed to do?" The two of them laugh.
"You're taking this seriously," Vitoria says, laughing.
We're talking when the boys sit down next to us. I hadn't even seen them approaching.
"She went to my building, but she didn't even get into the elevator to go up to my apartment, and..." Enzo starts to say but is quickly interrupted.
"Relax, Enzo. I'm not even mad. I was just playing the role of the jealous girlfriend. You don't need to worry about it," I reply in a low voice so that only he can hear.
He doesn't seem to have heard anything I said. He seems to be lost somewhere inside his own mind.
"Enzo?" I call out to see if he's listening to me.
"Shall we dance?" he asks.
Before I can answer, he takes my hand and leads me to the dance floor. I put my arm around his neck, and he holds my waist, giving it a slight squeeze that makes me gasp.
We're dancing, and his scent intoxicates me. He smells so good that it's impossible to resist. When I come to my senses, I look around and see that many people are staring at us.
"Everyone's looking at us, Enzo," I say in a low voice.
"It's just that I'm not one to dance with girls at my dad's parties. I don't usually bring anyone," he says softly, his voice a little hoarse. He pauses and continues, "I hate these parties, to be honest."
"I understand. These serious events can be boring sometimes," I say in agreement.
"Shall we sit down? I'm tired," he asks a little sheepishly.
We walk back to the table and sit down. We chat. Bryan and Vitoria have disappeared from sight. They're probably somewhere else in the party.
Enzo's company is actually very pleasant. Although he's serious and doesn't like too much intimacy, he's a person who knows how to have a conversation.
