ALEJANDRO: Indeed, and I'll do the same, no complaints from either side, no jealousy—because I'm warning you, I have a girlfriend whom I love, and as you can imagine, there will be days when I won't come home to sleep, or maybe I’ll bring her home, understood?—he said in a very serious tone.

KIARA: You have a girlfriend! And if you have one and you say you love her so much, why aren't you marrying her instead of me?—she asked incredulously.

ALEJANDRO: My grandfather doesn't like her, but I love her and I will be with her until this ends, and I can marry her without anyone interfering.

KIARA: And when is this supposed marriage supposed to end?—she asked curiously.

ALEJANDRO: A maximum of two "married" years, obviously only in name, because we clearly aren't going to consummate the marriage.

KIARA: That's no problem for me, I have no interest in sleeping with you. One more thing: either your girlfriend must love you a lot to accept being the other woman, or she definitely likes a comfortable life.

ALEJANDRO: Better not speak of what you don't know. Now let's go in and act like two people excited to get married—he said seriously.

KIARA: Fine, let's go if there's no other way—resigned, she entered with Alejandro.

NARRATOR...

ALEJANDRO and KIARA walked into the mansion. Upon their entrance, everyone present fell silent at the sight of the couple and their gazes conveyed curiosity about how things had gone for them, the most curious of all being Alejandro's grandfather, who did not delay in speaking up.

MR. MACOLIS (grandfather): And how did it go? I hope very well—he asked the elder, giving his grandson a cautionary look.

KIARA: Of course, Mr. Macolis, we did well, don’t worry—she said with a forced smile that she disguised very well.

ALEJANDRO: Yes, of course, we did well grandfather, Kiara and I got along and we've agreed to give it a try during the marriage, right?—he said, looking at Kiara.

KIARA: That's right, we decided to give it a try for the duration of our marriage—she said smiling so they would believe her... only she knew how much she was holding back from yelling at everyone there that she didn't want to get married or reach any agreement, but there was no turning back, she had to marry whether she wanted to or not.

Everyone was surprised to realize that they were making an effort to get to know each other since they had been sitting on a couch for two since entering and there they remained, talking until it was time to leave.

Hello, I’m ALEJANDRO MACOLIS, one of the wealthiest men in the world. I'm an only child; my parents are Carolina and Mauricio—were, because they passed away years back due to a plane accident on their way back from a trip my father had arranged for my mother on their anniversary. As you can see, they were my parents, and consequently, my only family is my grandfather, well aside from my girlfriend and my best friend, of course. Nobody knows my face; I never let photos of myself get out, so people only know my name. For those curious, I’m tall, very tall—I’m 1.90 meters, physically fit as I really like sports, have black hair, intense blue eyes which look calm but get fierce when I’m angry, like the ocean's depths. I’m a man used to getting everything I want and don’t want, I’m arrogant. I used to be a ladies' man but that changed when I met Angela, my girlfriend. The only people I care and have respect for are my grandfather, my girlfriend, and of course, I can't forget my best friend, almost brother, Mariano. Though I hope he doesn't find out I said I respect him 'cause that’ll just inflate his ego, that idiot 😏... Everything was perfect until one "fine" day my grandfather walked into my office and said I had to marry, I literally went blank, but after a while, I thought about it and said why not? Angela and I have been together for almost two years, and I loved the idea of marrying her but never imagined grandfather coming up with what he did.

GRANDFATHER: You’re going to marry who I say, not that nobody who's only after your money—his grandfather said, vexed.

ALEJANDRO: WHAT? IT MUST BE A JOKE, RIGHT? I'M GOING TO MARRY ANGELA, AND HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU, GRANDFATHER, THAT ANGELA IS NOT A NOBODY, SHE'S THE WOMAN I LOVE, WHY CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND?—Alejandro said, visibly upset.

GRANDFATHER: I'm not old for nothing; I know what I'm talking about, as young as you once were, I know of what I speak. But I propose something, marry for two years, and after a year, you get divorced and then you can choose whom to marry, what do you say?—asked the grandfather very seriously, but dying laughing inside because he knew it was an offer that Alejandro could not refuse.
