The Next Day

Even after the things that happened to suji yesterday, she still decided to go to her classes. She couldn’t afford to explain to her parents as to why she can’t attend or to lie that she’s sick.

She entered the classroom with an obvious exhaustion written on her face causing her male classmate to approach her.

“Suji! You look rather tired, did something happen yesterday?” He asked.

Suji just stared at him and thought

“He’s not really concerned about me…I know it, he’s only doing this because he asked me to do a favor for him yesterday. If he didn’t asked me a favor yesterday, he wouldn’t even waste time to look at me”

“Uhm…suji..?” The male student once again asked.

Suji faked a smile as she replied to the male student

“I’m fine, I just stayed up late last night”

“Oh- okay, see you later! Tell me if I can help you with something!”

Suji just kept smiling as the male student left

“Lies” she thought.

“You’re just saying that- you wouldn’t actually help me if I tell you my problem and it’s not like you can actually help me”

She went straight to her desk and prepared for her classes.

The students rose up from their desks as the school bell rang. Everyone went to the canteen to stuff theirselves.

Suji decided to stay in the classroom but she kept seeing the incident that occurred yesterday. She was absolutely disgusted and horrified.

“Suji”

Suji immediately looked at the door when she heard a man’s voice calling her name. It was hakun, he was standing right in front of the door with a wide smile in his face.

“Let’s eat together” he said.

Maybe it was because suji felt so helpless yesterday that once she saw her friend, she immediately ran to him and hugged him.

She tightened her hug as her knees collapsed causing both of them to kneel on the floor. Hakun was completely clueless about the situation but he decided to hug her friend back.

“Suji…it’s fine you can tell me what’s wrong” he consoled her.

It was another five minutes until suji decided to tell hakun about the incident. He was enraged. Not only because his friend was hurt but because he wasn’t there to protect her.

“I’ll kill them”. He said in a towering rage.

“You can’t hakun…”

“I can, just tell me, do you want me to kill them?”

“No…”

“But why? They- they caused you pain, suji this time isn’t the right time to be kind”

“It’s not about kindness hakun, it’s about our future- you can’t just give up your future, we can’t just give up our future for people like them”. Her tears started to flow again in frustration.

“Sorry suji…I was just, just really frustrated… sorry I couldn’t protect you, sorry that I wasn’t there when that happened, sorry for being a bad friend. Sorry suji, please forgive me” Hakun said as he covered his face.

Suji hugged her friend and consoled him “It wasn’t your fault hakun, you didn’t want that to happen too” she said as she smiled bitterly.

They didn’t said any words afterwards. Instead, they hugged each other, and cried together. They can’t do anything about the incident but they were each other’s reason to keep going.

After that day, hakun would always wait for suji after class. He can’t afford to let suji experience another horrifying incident like that day.

Unfortunately, incidents like those not only happen after class but also during class. Suji faced yet another horrifying incident but this time, it wasn’t a teacher who caused her pain- it was a “friend”.
