Chapter 5

Shou-wife did not follow the contract he was renting for his current place which was to live for a full year. He had to pay his landlord 1 month of rent for liquidation of the contract. After which, he enthusiastically moved into the house across Broken-Leg Gong’s.

When Broken-Leg Gong got off work that day, he saw that the door of the house across his own was not shut and realised someone had moved in. He wanted to go over and say hi.

Shou-wife was inside cleaning up. He was taking out a bag of rubbish when he bumped into Broken-Leg Gong.

“What a coincidence.” Shou-wife smiled and said.

Broken-Leg Gong was surprised for a moment before he replied while nodding., “What a coincidence.”

Both their timing to leave for work was about the same. In the morning, they would leave the house and walk the same way for awhile. After exchanging some conversations, Shou-wife learnt that Broken-Leg Gong had resigned from his previous job and started his own company with some friends. Shou-wife nodded and said, “No wonder you are always home so late.”

Broken-Leg Gong asked, “How did you know?”

Shou-wife was dumbfounded. Actually, everyday he observed the movement from the house across his very closely. But this could not be revealed.

When Shou-wife had nothing to do home, he would bake some cookies. Then, he picked some which were nicer-looking at placed them in a small bag. He used effort to seal it and sent it to Broken-Leg Gong. Broken-Leg Gong liked them alot and praised Shou-wife for being virtuous. Shou-wife felt elated and from then on, he would make snacks to send them over to Broken-Leg Gong.

During the weekend, when Shou-wife sent some egg yolk pastries over, there were two other people in Broken-Leg Gong’s home. Broken-Leg Gong said these were his friends who started his company together. Shou-wife greeted them and went back to bring over more pastries. Broken-Leg Gong boasted to his friends, “See how good my neighbour is.”

Shou-wife thought they were discussing about work and did not want to intrude. Who knew Broken-Leg Gong would ask him, “Can you play mahjong? We are short of one player.”

Shou-wife replied, “I know how to play a little.”

They played mahjong the entire afternoon and Shou-wife won the entire afternoon. Broken-Leg Gong started to have a new level of respect for Shou-wife. He kept saying, “Can’t play anymore, I will lose even my pants if we continue.”

Shou-wife pouted, and thought in his heart, it was not right.

Shou-wife felt bad for winning the money and wanted to treat them to dinner. Both of Broken-Leg Gong’s friends had plans that night and only Broken-Leg Gong said okay. Shou-wife asked where did he want to eat. Broken-Leg Gong said he was sick of eating outside food after eating daily. He asked, “Can you cook?”

Shou-wife nodded. Broken-Leg Gong was once again impressed.

The both of them went to the supermarket together to buy ingredients. Broken-Leg Gong’s kitchen has never been used before and there was nothing available. They had to go to Shou-wife’s house. Even though Shou-wife’s place was a rented home, but it felt warmer than Broken-Leg Gong’s place. Broken-Leg Gong squeezed with him in the kitchen to cook. Shou-wife asked him to pass the salt but Broken-Leg Gong handed him the bowl of sugar. He was chased out of the kitchen by Shou-wife.

Shou-wife’s cooking skills were really good. Broken-Leg Gong ate two bowls of rice. A person like him was conscious about his figure rarely ate this much. Shou-wife wanted to take for him a third bowl but Broken-Leg Gong hurriedly stopped him.

“My stomach is bulging already.”

Broken-Leg Gong pulled up his shirt to show Shou-wife. He revealed his eight pack. Shou-wife immediately had a nosebleed.

Shou-wife felt it could not be more embarrassing. Broken-Leg Gong helped him to sit down and asked. “Do you usually have nosebleeds?”

Shou-wife replied yes. He could not possibly say, It is because I saw your body that is why I am bleeding.

Broken-Leg Gong looked at him worriedly and went extremely close to him to apply the cold compress. Shou-wife’s nosebleed became worse.

Shou-wife felt it could not go on this way. As long as Broken-Leg Gong was around, his nosebleed would never end. He asked Broken-Leg Gong to go back first and said his nosebleed was no big deal. But Broken-Leg Gong did not feel at ease and wanted to bring him to the hospital. Having regular nosebleeds meant that there was something wrong with his body.

Shou-wife insisted that he was fine. But fact later proved that what Broken-Leg Gong said was not without logic. After the two of them got together later, whenever they stripped to begin their intense physical exercise, Shou-wife would always get a nosebleed. Others hurt their kidney when making love, Shou-wife gets anemia from making love. Either way, the entire body would get hurt.

The next day, when Broken-Leg Gong got home, he went to knock on Shou-wife’s door. As Shou-wife was living alone, he only wore a singlet and revealed most of his tender and fair skin. Broken-Leg Gong could not help but let his eyes linger.

Shou-wife asked, “Is there anything?”

Broken-Leg Gong replied, “I bought for you some supplements. Maybe it will help your nosebleeds.”

Shou-wife felt grateful and asked if Broken-Leg Gong has eaten his dinner. Broken-Leg Gong said he had not eaten yet and would order takeout later.

Shou-wife said, “Takeout is not nutritious. I cooked alot today, do you want to eat?”

Broken-Leg Gong did not stand on ceremony and went in for a meal again.
