CHAPTER 5

An elderly man’s expression was frozen as an iceberg. He was looking at the girl quite some time now.

That brown haired girl with hazel orbs seems familiar. It reminded him of someone, that someone once called him grandpa in a crying voice and watery eyes.

He approached the girl, pretending to buy her flowers.

Akira spotted a fellow moving towards her direction. It was the old man who bought her flowers every day. He was her all-time costumer.

Akira sometimes baffled why the old man bought all her flowers, even if it is withered and ugly or had a bad smell.

“Mister! I have some freshly picked flowers today! And it’s affordable!”

The little girl knew that the old man is not a commoner nor a pheasant, judging from the clothes he wore, he resembles a butler. Every time he brought her flowers, he would give her more than what the flower costs.

“Ly, we meet again.” And he uses the same nickname her father used to call her. It’s creepy, he looks at me like I’m close to him. Duh, were not even relatives, but still he was a nice old man.

“Good morning! Want some flowers?” Akira smiled at him.

Instead of answering her question, she was asked a question.

“Why is there mud in your shoes?”

Hmm. What mud! I must have accidentally walk on it and stained my shoes. Mom’s gonna scold me again when I get home.

“Don’t worry about its mister. So are going to buy?”

“Seems like you’re living a hard life.”

“…” no comment. \=\=

“Come with me.” He offers his hand to me.

Akira knew this man for a month now, but still how could she trusts someone like that? You never knew peoples’ hidden intention masked with a warm smiles and kind words.

She is not a 5-year-old girl, she is an adult now 24 to be exact only her body is a kid, but mentally she is a grandma. The power of the people who

live twice.

“Thank you for your kindness mister, but I have a mother to take care. (and a father to expect.)”

“I understand. But if you change your mind I’ll be waiting here every day.” With a smile, the old man retracted his gloved hand.

“I’ll buy all your flower.”

Yesssa... I know it! Thanks old man.

Akira handed him the flowers and received 2 silver coins in return.

This country’s economy is neither great nor bad. It was balance and commoners don’t have a hard time but regardless there are still commoners no matter how many fortunes they acquired. Of course, it depends on the master what suitable amount should be given to their servants and workers.

Commoners are not allowed to have a money greater than 3 silver. I know the old man was a considerate man, that’s why he didn’t give me money that exceed 3 silvers.

“Thank you mister!”

I said my thanks to him, and he hummed and left hurriedly.

After I bought what, my mother asked. I went home with the spices and breads in my basket.

As I grew nearer and nearer on our doorstep, I had a terrible feeling. Something is not right. It’s too quiet I couldn’t hear footsteps nor movements. Mom!

The little girl kicked the door hard with her foot and only to find her mother lying flat on the floor, unconscious.

“Mom! Wake up!” feeling her mother’s pulse, she exclaimed, “Thank god!”

She may be strong, but she can’t support a person who is heavier than herself. So she runs to their bedroom and take some pillows and a thin blanket. Afterwards she positions Adele’s head on a soft pillow.

If this accident keeps on happening, she might lose her hand. She needed someone to keep an eye on her.

That old man’s offer surfaced to her head. Akira pounders if it is the right thing to do, taking a stranger's hand. Her fingers gently strokes Adele’s head to stay calm. She must find a cure about her mother’s illness before it is too late.

Morning came. It greeted them through the warm sunlight beam. The little girl decided not to take the offer unless the man would accept her mother to be with her.

Akira is unsure whether that old man will heed her plead, but what could go wrong in trying?

She left her mother on the floor alone with a heavy heart. Her goal is to save her, not to watch her slowly dying before her eyes.

The little run and swung as fast as she can. Less than hour, Akira arrived at Verdana.

Her eyes wandered through the crowd of people, hoping to find the person she was looking for.

“Ly?” a pair of hands grab her shoulders.

The girl turns around and saw the same old man who offered her shelter.

“I’ll accept you’re the offer, but can my mother come too?” she gathered the man’s hands and clasps it.

The man didn’t utter a word, so she burst to tears and plead while reasoning.

“Please, I’ll do anything. My, my mom is sick and she’s still unconscious right now. Please save her. I beg you, please…”

Still, the old man didn’t say a word, he just nods.

Wait for me, mom.
