Chapter 2
I had been reborn in a troublesome world. I have transmigrated into the body of a child. Both my parents here worked as a palace servant. The woman whom this child should be calling mom was a maid and the so-called father was working as a guard.
Why I am so unlucky? If gods take a pity on me, why would they put my second parents’ lives and mine on a hanging rope? Everyone knew how difficult royals are, just like this forsaken world, flooded with blood. Battles and power struggles are so evident in this world.
I don’t have the skills to survive in the primitive ways of this world, nor had special powers and cheats. Did gods wanted me to suffer again? Ah, I, a teenager stuck inside a child. Now I have to undergo puberty again, how troublesome.
This world is not what I had expected. Magic and superpowers existed here, but some people can only do things like a normal person could do. It disappoints me, a lot, since I was one of those people. I, as a lazy girl, had to work hard to achieve greater things in this place without magic, only pure hard work.
What should I do? It’s been a week. At this rate, I need to learn how to survive though I am still a baby knowing many can give me advantages in the future.
‘Focus what’s ahead, live a peaceful and comfortable life with my second parents.’ Never fall in love, that’s where your weakest spot appears and make you weak.
My line of thoughts was interrupted.
“Adele, why isn’t she crying?” the man who held me worriedly asked the woman who neatly covers me a napkin. Oh gosh, he pinched my cheek and I only stared at his face in daze.
They must have thought I’m abnormal. Let’s just cry to lessen their burdens.
“Wahhh…wahhh…” I wailed as loud as I can. But instead relief, the man panicked.
“Adele, why is she crying?” Are you nuts? I abandoned my pride and act as a child in order for you to stop worrying about me.
Before I could stop acting, the woman explained to him why I cried. Phew, my lifesaver.
“Hush, dearie, it’s gonna be okay.” The woman gently scooped me from my father’s arm. Then laid me down carefully on the crib.
Not in my boring life, I expected to be treated as a little girl. My aunt may love me, but never treated me like this. It’s so weird.
The woman started to hum an unknown lullaby. Is it because of my body or is it the soothing melody, I don’t know but I manage to fall asleep.
``````````````
“Akira wake up! You need to go to school.” Urgg so noisy. I only knew one person whose voice is as loud as thunder and had the courage to disturb my sleep.
“Five minutes!” I want to sleep some more.
As I predicted, she flipped my blanket resulting me from falling down the bed. The blanket is thick, so I didn’t get a single pain.
I rub my eyes. The sun’s beam kissed my skin. The mango tree’s leaves swayed and twirled by the slight breeze.
“Morning aunt,” I blink my eyes and shifted my gaze from the window to the chubby woman near the door.
“Morning? It’s almost noon, Akira!” putting her fists on the waist, she began scolding me. Great! My morning radio is on.
I frown while she fully open the half closed window.
“Aunt it's Saturday.” I tiredly spoke. She always did this, urging me to get up for school, like every day is Monday. Yes, she’s a forgetful person yet she never once did forget about my well-being.
“Oh, I… still, you should eat your breakfast on time!” the woman was so embarrassed and try to make reasoning.
“Aunt, it’s still 7 o'clock.” Hayst, what can I refute to an early bird.
Without another word, she storms pass to me. Huh, she must have been so embarrassed.
After I stood up, the place had changed.
A woman crying loudly while holding a girl’s lifeless body at the street came into view. My eyes widened at the scene in front of me.
Brown curly hair, loud voice, chubby figure and most of all the person in her embrace made me frozen on where I stand.
No. No. It can’t be.
“Aunt?” I can’t help but call her helplessly. My voice cracked at the realization. Water clouded my vision, and before I knew it, tears came rolling down non-stop.
I watch my aunt begging me to wake up, to come back to her. I want to hug and confront her, but it seems like there’s a force blocking me from reaching her.
“…ily…Lily… baby. My baby.” Another woman’s voice called me nowhere.
Gasp.
“Ah! Baby, my beautiful Lily.” I saw a brown haired woman and made a worried expression. Did she cry? The woman smiled at me relieved.
She was the splitting image of my aunt Wilma. Except for the figure and the straight hair, but overall she looks like my aunt.
Aunt.
I wanted to call her, instead I form some unintelligible sounds.
It’s just a nightmare. I really died saving a little girl. The images showing my aunt miserably crying because of me stabs my heart.
“Don’t cry, mama’s here. Hush.” The woman who resembles my aunt so much wiped my tears and the same time rocking me slowly while humming that unknown
lullaby.
She’s so warm and soft. I lean myself closer to her chest just to feel her heartbeat racing. This woman cared for me deeply since I was born. Maybe I should give the love they deserved as parents. With that in mind, I sleep in her arms peacefully.
