That morning, Noelle was summoned to have breakfast with the grand Duke. Jane led her to the garden and on their way, she informed Noelle that she had already found the maids who would be in charge of her. Noelle had to choose one to be her constant companion, while the others would take care of her chamber, clothes, and meals.
"It seems strange to me that a lady like you didn't have a maid," Jane said.
"I did have one, but my father dismissed her as punishment," Noelle replied.
"Punishment? Did she do something wrong?" Jane asked.
"No, she was only eight years old. My sister fell from a tree and claimed that I had told her to climb it," Noelle explained.
"What? But your father believed that girl more? You're the legitimate daughter, after all... Oh, I'm sorry," Jane said.
"It's alright, that is public knowledge. But my father favors Odette. My mother is always sad, she believes that Odette is actually my father's daughter," Noelle confided.
"It wouldn't be surprising for a noble to have a mistress and an illegitimate child. Nevertheless, you are the daughter of his legal wife," Jane stated.
"It doesn't seem to matter to him, I have always been less important. He even allowed my engagement to be changed. I was supposed to marry the prince," Noelle revealed.
"I'm sorry to hear that, but the young Duke... he is a good lad," Jane commented.
Noelle smiled radiantly and said, "Of course he is. He doesn't like me very much yet, but I know he is a very obedient boy."
In Raizel's chamber, he had barely managed to take off the collar that Noelle had put on him. Because of it, he had been confined for two nights, unwilling to be seen wearing it. But finally, nothing would stop him now.
"Hah! That bitch thinks she can give me orders. As soon as I have the title, I'll throw her out of here," Raizel angrily declared, throwing the collar out the window. Frustrated and furious, he needed to go out and have some fun.
Meanwhile, Noelle arrived at the garden where the grand Duke was no longer pale or reliant on his cane to stand. Noelle smiled because she knew everything. The grand Duke had not been sick; it had all been a ruse to convince his son to marry her. Of course, he hoped that his son would learn to love or at least appreciate Noelle. Unfortunately, in the original story, he never even showed her respect and even opposed his son attacking the capital on a whim.
Noelle bowed to the grand Duke, who gestured for her to take a seat.
"Your Excellency, you look much better. I hope your illness is more controlled, and that you live long enough to meet your grandchildren," Noelle greeted him.
The grand Duke laughed, not in mockery, but rather seemingly happy to hear her words.
"May the gods hear you. I am sure that if my son and you have children, they will be beautiful," he replied.
"Nothing would make me happier than to have a child with my husband's eyes," Noelle expressed.
"But with my son, I don't expect much. I'm sorry to say that he is still quite the party"goer," the grand Duke admitted.
"Don't lose hope, Father. My husband and I are already taking care of it. Perhaps you will soon hear the news that you will be a grandfather," Noelle assured him.
A noise made both of them turn their heads. It was Raizel, who had dropped the sword he was holding because of what he had heard. Noelle stood up and went to the young Duke, grabbing his arm.
"Husband, you've come! Come, I'm sure Father would love to have breakfast with both of us."
Pulling him a little, although Raizel tries to avoid being dragged, the girl strangely possesses great strength. He even feels her fingers digging into his arm and is forced to sit down. The grand Duke is surprised but pleased to see that they are getting along well.
"I was worried about how they would get along, but I see that my worries were in vain."
"Father, you don't have to worry. Perhaps this marriage happened hastily, and my husband and I don't know each other well, but we will do our best to make it work, right, darling?"
Raizel remains silent and annoyed. What a bunch of lies Noelle is telling. But he feels a pain in his arm. Noelle is squeezing him. How can she have so much strength?
"O"of course, old man. And I see that you're feeling better now."
The grand Duke coughs; he still can't admit that it was all a lie."
"Yes, yes, but that doesn't mean the illness is gone."
Breakfast is served, and the three of them calmly eat while the grand Duke asks Noelle about her life at Le Blanc House. After finishing, the grand Duke retires, and Noelle gets ready to leave. There are some things she needs and couldn't bring, but as she's getting into the carriage, someone pushes her, causing her to fall inside. By the time she reacts, Raizel has also gotten on and takes a seat while she remains on the floor.
"Couldn't you wait until I finished getting in?"
She holds onto the seat to lift herself up and sit, adjusting her dress.
"I have no intention of being delicate with you."
Noelle steps on Raizel's foot with the heel of her slipper.
"Then I have no reason to be respectful either."
"You, daughter of...what the hell is wrong with you? Women are not so aggressive..."
Raizel rubs his foot, feeling the pain acutely.
"Don't put me on the same pedestal as the women of this era. But why did you get in? Don't tell me...you've fallen in love with me and want to be with me all the time."
"Of course not, a woman like you is not to my taste."
"That's not what you said on our wedding night."
"I was in the mood, and anyone would do, but it won't happen again."
"Mmm...are you sure?"
"Of course..."
