The next morning, Hitoka woke up earlier than usual and went to get some water to quench her thirst. She walks around the house to see if she can design it in order to make it more homely even in this situation with the glass of water still in her hand sipping from it time to time.
She walks around for some time then goes to the living room and sits on the couch switching on the television on to check if it was still working since there was a 40% chance that it could. Channels from only a particular prefecture wasn’t working while the others were functioning properly so that 40% change was now negative since she couldn’t see the situation outside.
Some broadcasts showed the entire prefecture that they lived was a mess with fire and smoke everywhere.
“Thank you Oikawa san. I owe you big time.” She stated sighing once before someone attacked or rather hugged her from behind. It was Rin.
“Mum, why are you thanking uncle Tooru?” Rin questioned while Hitoka chucked pulling Rin to her making her sit on her lap.
“Because Rin, do you see the fire there?” She asks Rin to which Rin nods.
“Now look closely. Do you see some people walking into the fire without feeling pain?” She asks.
“Mom! How can those tiny people be visible when even small buildings aren’t?” Rin pouted and Hitoka chuckles.
“Look at the rooftop of the building you can see clearly and pay close attention to the moving things there.” Hitoka said while pointing to the TV screen with the remote in her hand and leaning while resting her chin on Rin’s shoulder, hugging her.
“Ah! I can see them now.” Rin says excitedly. Hitoka couldn’t help but smile in pity as this innocent child didn’t know that the people or rather the moving things she sees now were once living people, living and having their daily life like her and the other families residing with them.
“Mom? Mom? Mom!” Rin shouts at her mother and snaps Hitoka back to reality.
“Rin, listen carefully and promise me one thing. Don’t get out of our sight please. You should be within mine, your dad’s or your brother’s sight all the time. Promise? Hitoka asks worried about her 5 years old daughter.
Rin just nods in response and Hitoka happily skips to the kitchen to make them some breakfast while pushing Rin from the back. Rin enters the kitchen and Hitoka makes her sit on the counter after cleaning some dust off of it.
Hitoka takes an apron and wears it then prepares breakfast. She avoided non veg as much as possible since it could be stored for later during the apocalypse (before it rots obviously).
“Why are you using so little meat mom? I want more meat! Please!” Hiring begs with her puppy eyes.
Hitoka, at this point of time, was pretty immune to these puppy eyes tricks but goes ahead to add some more meat for Rin and Rei alone while keeping hers and Wakatoshi’s meat content the same. Rin, on seeing this, gave out a bright smile to thank her mom.
After preparing breakfast for them, Hitoka gave Rin a kiss on her forehead before instructing her some stuffs.
“Rin, wake papa and Nii up please.” Hitoka says while arranging the table with food.
“Mmm. Will do!” Rin happily runs off to her parents’ room.
She enters her parents’ bedroom and runs to her dad sleeping tummy flat on the bed and jumps on him. “Papa! Wakey wakey! Breakfast time!” She shouts while jumping up and down on her father’s back. He just smile and remains silent for a couple for minutes then suddenly turns resulting in Rin to fall on the other side of the bed.
“My little princess is awake huh? Why do you wake me up then? I have been working all night u know....” he says while tickling her but was interrupted before he could finish his sentence by Hitoka who threw a cushion from the living room’s couch.
“Go freshen up and come eat if you are awake!” She said turning into a red mess. He just smirked and said okay in a sing song voice which is one of the habits that he learned from his now best friend, Oikawa Tooru.
Rin was just standing, confused.
“Rin, go wake nii up now that papa is up” Hitoka said trying to change the topic with all her IQ.
“Ah! Right! Nii\~” she called out running to her brother. Rei woke up frantically after hearing his sister’s voice getting closer. He didn’t have that much energy to withstand her jumping on him like his dad. He quickly made his bed and got out before Rin could enter the bedroom. Both Hitoka and Wakatoshi laughed at this.
“Nii, your hair’s a mess” Rin says pointing at his hair. He blushes and runs off to the bathroom to freshen up and came out not long after with his father and sat down for breakfast.
Wakatoshi noticed something odd about the food which was different from what his kids got. He shot a look to Hitoka who was peacefully eating using the puppy eyes trick he learned from his kids.
“It won’t work on me. Plus this is an apocalypse, the kids need to build up their strength. You have plenty of them with your protein shakes and all.” She says without even giving him a glance.
“Humph. You are weak. That’s why you won’t face me. Cause you are afraid to give in. Am I right?” He asks with a smug look on his face and gets no answer which confirms that he is right.
“Please stop flirting first thing in the morning my dear parents” Rei says calmly while eating taking a bite at a time. Hitoka tried changing the subject and moved and it somehow worked.
After breakfast, everyone went downstairs to meet with the rest of the occupants.
“Since we couldn’t do much last night because of the lack of lighting, let’s just finish it out by today.” Aran said and Kita nodded.
“But the lights will still be a problem at night. The street lights I mean.” Oikawa said somewhat serious. Kagayama was shocked by Oikawa’s seriousness, ‘the then playboy is now a serious guy huh?’ He thought.
“Then we will have to go out there and get the lights and come back.” Iwaizumi muttered and the rest nodded.
“Ok then let’s do this, since we have found out that sound attracts zombies, let’s use bows and arrows as much as possible instead of firearms. So how many here knows how to use bows and arrows?” Daichi asks.
Around 25 people lifted their hands.
“So these people will go get the lights and come back while the rest who are staying back will help with patrolling and installing the rest of the solar panels.” Suga says and everyone as no chive but to agree with them.
“Wait. Before leaving let’s take some necessary precautions.” Osamu says calmly.
“What are you talking ‘bout ‘Samu?” Atsumu asks.
“I have a few football uniforms here. We can use it. Ya know to prevent the fact that we might actually get bitten or infected. As for your legs, we don’t have much, let’s just use something like wood. The helmet will cover your neck and wood for you legs. Check if your shoes are firm and hard enough to not get their teeth through it to your foot.” Osamu says analysing everything. Kita was shocked by the dumb twins’ analysis about the situation.
“Ya let’s do that. We will try searching for cloth materials that will come handy in the future too. Guys while you are at it, search for clothings too, as in, something like an armour to protect us.” Kita says agreeing.
The others just listened to him and accepted what he said. Soon a group of 25 started out with on different caravans.
