Once I leave the room, I call Dante.
"Good morning, sir," Dante greets me.
"Dante, tell the men I'll be coming down, they should be ready to leave. You'll accompany me in the same vehicle."
"As you wish."
When we arrive at the parking lot, the men are ready to leave. I head straight to the vehicle where Dante and the driver are waiting for me.
"Good morning, sir," they greet in unison, and I nod in acknowledgment. The driver opens the door for me, Dante gives the signal for the rest of the personnel to set off. Once inside the van, I instruct the driver to head to Ivanov's southern warehouses, where he stores some of his vehicles, and we set off. Dante looks at me intrigued.
"Question," I say when I see him hesitating.
"Why are we going there? You know that Ivanov will take your mere presence as a declaration of war."
"He made the declaration of war himself by thinking he can get close to my wife and assume there won't be consequences."
"I thought it was just a coincidence and that your wife was the one who applied for her company to work with Ivanov."
"With Ivanov, there are no coincidences, and in case there were, he would use them against me and I won't give him an advantage."
"What do you plan to do?"
"For now, I'll make it clear to him that he should continue maintaining his distance and that what is mine is not to be touched, looked at, or coveted. Otherwise, I will crush him like the cockroach that he is." Dante doesn't ask anything else, he just nods.
"We have arrived," announces the driver. "The men in the other vans get out, as well as Dante, who surveys the area and informs Ivanov's men of my presence. Minutes later, he comes out to meet me and Dante opens the door for me. I get out of the van and walk towards Ivanov, who keeps advancing. I see a wide smile on his face, and it tempts me to break it and wipe away his satisfaction.
"You took your time," he says as if we were close friends.
"I never received an invitation. If I had known you were expecting me, I would have come earlier," I reply. He extends his hand, which I scrutinize carefully, adjust my jacket, and he understands the rejection.
"Always so temperamental."
"Stay away from what belongs to me, or face the consequences, because I won't hold back when I grab your neck and squeeze until your eyes beg me for a little air. And guess what? I won't give it to you. I'll enjoy tearing you apart, piece by piece." I see his muscles tense and his fists clench, even as he tries to maintain that fake half-assed smile.
"Don't get worked up. If she doesn't want to work with me, I can't force her. Only if she doesn't want to. I would be delighted to work with someone as beautiful and professional as her."
"Don't test my patience. You know it won't be good for you. You're not yet at the level to challenge me."
"Have a good afternoon." I turn around, while my men continue facing off against Ivanov and his men. Once again, the driver opens the door for me. Once I'm secure, everyone gets into the vans and we depart. I can see Ivanov's annoyed face once more, as he drops his fake smile.
"Do you think he'll take action?" Dante asks, breaking the silence.
"I don't know."
...***...
Anna's POV.
I'm on a video call with Elena, telling her how the presentation of the proposal with Ivanov went, and that the pregnancy test result was positive. She's happy, and she tells me she's going to start looking for names for both sexes. I say goodbye to her and hang up when I see Nicolas enter the room.
"Ready?" he asks as he looks at me sitting on the couch.
"Yes, shall we go? I'm dying of boredom."
"Let's go." He smiles as he extends his hand to help me to my feet.
"Thank you," I say, and he takes my coat and helps me put it on. I can't deny that it's a nice gesture, and I give him a smile.
"Is there a place you'd like to visit? After lunch, of course."
"Yes, yes!" I say, and I know I sound like a little girl who has been offered candy. He reveals a wide smile, just like the one I remember from my dreams. It's genuine and very beautiful.
"What place?" he asks.
"I think everyone." She replied, still excited.
"And I think you will have to choose one, you know the temperature is low and I don't want you to risk catching a cold... I mean, for the baby."
"Yes, of course. Why else would it be?" The situation becomes somewhat uncomfortable.
"Come on, it's time for you to eat something." He says and opens the door for me, then he steps out and closes it.
During the journey, we both remain silent until I see the restaurant, it is imposing, beautiful.
"I can't believe it." I say when we get out of the van and I see it in all its glory. "I love it" "Turandot" One of the best restaurants in Moscow, if not all of Russia.
Previously, it was Rimsky-Korsakov's mansion, a first-class establishment that resembles a palace, with a blend of styles that combine the West and the East in one place. Its facade and luxurious interior are the result of the hard work of hundreds of sculptors, a dream come true.
"Wait until you see it inside." Says Nicolas, who places a hand on my lower back and invites me to follow.
"Thank you, I didn't think this would be the chosen destination."
"And it's not, well, only part of it. Let yourself be surprised."
"Thank you." I say again and kiss his cheek. "I can't believe it, I've made Nicolas Thompson blush." I say and laugh.
"Don't make me regret coming." I act as if my mouth has a sliding door and close it. Laughing, we enter the restaurant.
