Kirishima asked as he approached her. He sighed heavily before continuing. “Can you please give us some space?”
His mom’s expression fell slightly, but she nodded. “Of course, dear.” She stood up. “Shoto, can you get our jackets?”
“Sure, MOM.”
Once they were dressed and ready to leave, Kirishima’s mother hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek. Then, they left the store, walking side by side and occasionally stopping to say hello to others. Kirishima noticed, however, that most people seemed to avoid staring at him and his mother, making them seem less conspicuous than before. Once they reached their destination, he knocked quietly, not wanting to wake his mother up in case she was still sleeping.
After a while, the door opened. As soon as Kirishima saw who it was, he felt relief flood through his body. He didn’t realize how nervous he actually was until now. “I…um…hey, Bakugou.”
Bakugou scoffed at him. “You didn't tell me that you'd be bringing your mom today. I'm surprised you bothered coming, shitty hair.”
“Oh shut up,”Kirishima said. “I didn't really have a choice. Can you please tell me what's going on? Where's mom? Is she alright? Did anything happen during my absence?” He rambled on, unable to stop worrying about his mother, who had stayed home to help watch Sakhura because of their current financial situation.
Bakugou raised his eyebrows at him. “What are you doing here instead of helping?”
“I told you that I couldn't come because I needed to stay with Mom,” Kirishima replied. He took a few steps closer to Bakugou. “Please tell me that something happened. Anything.”
As soon as Kirishima finished asking his question, Bakugou sighed exasperatedly. “Fine. Calm the **** down before I lose my shit. My dad got arrested yesterday, and I don't know what the **** is going to happen when CPS finds out about that. They already think that I killed him, but if CPS starts digging deeper, it won't take them long to figure out who did it. And I can't take the risk of getting in trouble, not with what I've done recently.”
Kirishima bit his lip. “Didn't you already go to prison? Isn'Isn't the sentence too short if you got caught killing your own dad?”
Bakugou rolled his eyes as he answered. “That's bullshit. It's more likely that my dad was fucking murdered. They'll make a big deal out of it, saying that he committed suicide. Hell, they'll probably send him to prison, and then maybe I'll be able to live peacefully, which isn't gonna happen.”
“But, if you're innocent, why are you scared?”
“Cause I'm fuckin terrified. **** knows what's going to happen when CPS comes around. We haven't been clean, ever since the incident. They're gonna come knocking at our door soon, and they're gonna ask questions. Questions like: Why was your dad locked up in the first place? What were the last memories he had before he died? Who killed him? Did he have enemies? Are they involved in some sort of shady business? What does he have on them? And I'm scared that the answer will be something that I won't like. I'm fucking scared that if I give them enough information about myself, they'll get suspicious. They won't believe me unless I tell them the truth and if I do, they'll think that I have an ulterior motive for wanting to get the charges dropped, like whatBecause I want to escape? That's ridiculous! I hate that shit. They're so damn stupid!”
Kirishima remained silent for a brief moment as Bakugou continued ranting. He wasn't quite sure whether he should believe everything that Bakugou said; it almost sounded like a complete lie. Still, there was something about the way he phrased his words that made Kirishima believe every single word that he said.
Suddenly, Kirishima remembered something and grabbed his phone. “Hey, wait, I'm gonna call someone and see if he knows something about what's happening. Do you mind staying here? Just in case?”
“Whatever, I guess.”
Kirishima dialed the familiar number before raising his hand to cover the speaker. “Hey, Kaminari? Hey, listen,” he whispered, “something weird has happened to our neighbor, and I need some help finding out more information about this. Can you contact Sero, Jiro, Yaoyorozu, and whoever else you can find to help? Also, ask Uraraka and Midoriya if they know anything about it as well, since I'm pretty certain that they're the ones who called us in the first place. I don't know what I'm doing wrongbut I'm pretty certain that this is bigger than us three. Can you ask them to meet us at the station? Please? Thanks, man. I owe you one.”
Kirishima put his phone away before turning back to Bakugou. “Alright, let's go.”
After a quick trip to the convenience store for snacks and water, the two teenagers returned to the main road leading back to their apartment building. They both remained quiet as they walked, lost in their thoughts. Eventually, Bakugou broke the silence. “So, who's the fucker that you wanted to find out more about? Your ex or something?”
“It doesn't matter,” Kirishima mumbled. “Just hurry up and tell me, okay?”
Bakugou snorted, shaking his head. “Whatever. You just gotta remember that I'm never giving you shit again. The only reason I'm talking to you right now is because you're my best friend, and I'm tired of having to deal with assholes like that.”
“Thank you, bro.” Kirishima smiled. “Anyway, yeah, the guy that I was looking for is named Todoroki Touya.Bakugou immediately froze midstep.
“Huh?”
“Yeah, he went to the same middle school as me, and I met him once or twice,” Kirishima explained. He looked over at Bakugou curiously. “Why?”
Bakugou didn't respond. He continued walking, taking large steps forward.
A moment later, Kirishima realized what was happening. “Dude, are you seriously pissed that your old man got fucking arrested?! How the hell could you be pissed off about that?! That was years ago! You were just a kid!” Kirishima shouted angrily at him. “How the hell could you feel anything other than disgust and disappointment after all this time? Don't you miss him at all?”
“Shut up!” Bakugou yelled, grabbing Kirishima's shoulders roughly. The sudden movement caused Kirishima to stumble backward and drop his bag, causing it to fall onto its contents, sending everything scattering across the ground in front of him. Without hesitation, Bakugou bent down and picked up Kirishima's bags, throwing them into his arms. He glared angrily at Kirishima before running off down the street without another word.
“Bakugou! Wait up!
