After that awkward moment, silence invaded the office, which was interrupted seconds later by the judge.

"If you'll excuse me, I must leave" he says, standing up.

"I'll accompany you" Samuel says, walking after him.

I was in shock, I couldn't believe what was happening to me. I couldn't believe that Marcus, or rather Mauricio, would do this to me. I couldn't stop crying.

Without saying anything, I left the office and headed towards the entrance, where I had left my things. It was already night and I had nowhere to go, but that didn't matter amidst so much pain.

"Where are you going, young lady?" I heard Eva's voice behind me.

"I still don't know, I'll try to go back to my house" I said, wiping my tears.

"No way, it's already night. This city is dangerous, you can't be alone on the street, you'll stay here for the night" she says with a firm voice.

"It's not necessary, I'm a stranger, you don't have to do it" I say, embarrassed.

"Of course we do, it was our son and his lack of manhood that brought you here, it is our duty to give you at least a roof tonight" said Mr. Samuel, joining the conversation.

"My husband is right. I'll ask them to prepare something for you to have for dinner and a room" Eva says and leaves, leaving the echo of her heels.

"I feel very sorry, sir" I say with a weak voice.

"And you can't imagine how I feel, I still can't believe that my eldest son has harmed his brother in that way and also you, young lady. They have never gotten along well since they were children, but I didn't think it would go this far" says the man with his gaze fixed on nothing, he seemed sad and disappointed.

The Smith family took me in that night, they provided me with a comfortable room so I could rest.

The next day I woke up and one of the kitchen girls told me that if I wanted to have breakfast with them, which I agreed to.

They said that none of the gentlemen were there, that they had all gone to work, that they would return in the mid-afternoon, except Mrs. Eva, she would return in the mid-morning.

The hours passed and finally the lady arrived home, she looked for me in the kitchen where I had been all morning and invited me to walk in the garden, I could tell that she was very embarrassed, and every now and then she repeated to excuse her son, that he is good, that she didn't know why he would have done it.

Then she began to ask me about my life. I told her everything, the death of my mother, the bad relationship I have with my stepfather and even my dream of becoming a designer.

She was very surprised when I told her this last thing, I really didn't understand why.

Inside me there was a lot of disappointment, the man I thought loved me deceived me, played with my feelings, betrayed my trust. I will never be able to forgive him. I just want to forget about him and be able to move on.
