Laura was taken aback, and so was Ethel. However, both had different trains of thought.
“Sir, are you still in the mood for jest?”
Just as Noah was about to respond, someone suddenly appeared and interrupted.
“What's happening here?"
A woman in her early thirties approached them. From her attire, it seemed she was no ordinary salesperson.
"Miss Bates, I was trying to explain to Laura about people who pretend to shop just to get the attention of female sales staff in this showroom. And this gentleman here is a perfect example," Ethel clarified.
"Miss Bates. This young man here wants to buy a car but Ethel keeps insulting him," Laura defended Noah.
Parish Bates was the marketing manager for Lamborghini at Silverstone. Seeing Noah, she felt there might be some truth to Ethel's words. But as a professional, she aimed to remain courteous.
The showroom quieted down a little. The minor commotion quickly drew the attention of others present. A manager could not afford to be impolite, even though she was now inclined to eject Noah.
"Sir, are you truly interested in purchasing this car?”
Noah shook his head. This initially dismayed Laura before the youth spoke up again.
"I want to know the price, and I'll pay it right now."
Parish blinked several times, trying to digest what Noah had just said to her.
"Sir, what do you mean?”
"Miss Bates. I will buy if I am interested, but it seems that you underestimate me," Noah said, lifting his chin slightly toward Ethel. He continued, "Now, I want to ask the three of you. Out of all the cars here, show me the most expensive one."
"My apologies for offending you, Young Sir," Laura attempted to diffuse Noah's evident anger.
Noah smiled at Laura. "Miss Laura, if you show me the most expensive car here, then I will buy it straight away, and I will pay for that car, for you."
Laura's eyes widened. She was only trying to calm him, yet Noah seemed more agitated. "Young Sir. I beg your forgiveness once again."
"Laura, take this young man to the upper floor. Show him the highest series car we have," commanded Parish.
Parish felt challenged. She intended to dismiss this young man by showing him the car on the upper floor. She believed that when he saw and learned the price of that car, everything would be resolved right then and there.
Because in her mind, at Silverstone, only a handful of people could afford the limited edition car that was now part of their showroom collection. Clearly, Noah was not one of them.
"Alright, Miss Parish," Laura responded swiftly. "Young Sir, please follow me," she invited Noah politely.
Noah followed Laura upstairs, with Parish and Ethel trailing behind them.
Upon reaching the upper floor, where only one car was present, Laura immediately described the model and its advantages, her smile still warm and friendly.
According to Laura, it was a Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, a limited edition, with only nine units made worldwide.
The car would only be displayed for one month at Silverstone, to attract the attention of sports car enthusiasts in the city.
Seeing Noah's silence and lack of any reaction, Ethel could not help but speak out.
"What do you think, Sir? Are you satisfied with just looking around? Are you still keen to play games?"
"Ethel, what's with you? Why do you keep pestering this gentleman?" Laura now visibly showed her irritation toward Ethel.
Noah, understanding the value of work and having spent more than half his life at it, was touched by Laura's patience and kindness.
"Miss Bates. I have heard Miss Laura's explanation. I have decided to buy it."
"Hah! Sir, you haven't even heard the price. How can you afford it?"
Noah was truly angry this time. "You, is this how you treat customers?" He pointed at Ethel.
Ethel was taken aback, not expecting such a response. But she held her ground. After all, if this young man harassed her, the showroom was well-equipped with CCTV cameras.
"No, this is how I teach a lesson to the self-unaware loser pretending to buy a car just for the sake of gaining the attention of an innocent sales woman and sleeping with her."
Noah nodded. "Very well then! ... Laura, I will pay for this car and the one you showed me earlier, right now."
Hearing Noah's words, Laura glanced at Parish briefly, then nodded at Noah. "Alright, sir, I will prepare the paperwork."
Noah shook his head. "No need to prepare that just yet. Now, I want to pay for it."
"Very well, how would you like to go about the payment?"
"The quickest way," Noah replied.
Laura looked at Parish. "Miss Bates, this gentleman will make the payment for two cars."
The atmosphere grew quiet for a moment. It was time, Parish felt, to put an end to Noah's far too excessive joke.
"Alright. Then please scan this account."
Parish showed her phone's screen to Noah. Without further ado, Noah scanned the account's barcode with his own phone.
"It's done. Tell me how much I owe for both cars?"
"Six million one hundred and fifty thousand dollars."
"Ding!"
A tingling sound indicated to Noah that his bank account status had changed. However, he chose to inspect it later after he was done with these ladies.
"It's settled. You may verify for yourself."
Parish suddenly fell silent. Noah had truly proven his capability. Now, her screen showed numbers that matched the amount he stated.
Curious, Laura stretched her neck to see if what Noah said was true. Ethel did the same.
"This can't be... How is it possible?!" Ethel murmured, her eyes glazed over.
"Yes! ... Yes!" Laura cheered with little jumps, overwhelmed with joy.
Her customer had just paid five million six hundred thousand dollars for two cars.
Noah could only smile. He had once been in her position – a hard worker filled with happiness upon being appreciated and achieving immensely satisfying results.
"Miss Parish. Are you going to stand there silent after a customer has just purchased a car?"
Parish snapped out of her daze at Noah's words.
"Yes... Erm, no. I mean. Young Sir. I... " Parish couldn't even arrange her words because of her astonishment.
Ethel was aghast, feeling like she had lost half her life. Her legs were numb.
Five percent. That was the commission Laura would receive after this transaction.
Considering Noah had made the payment, it was certain she would get it.
"Alright, Miss Fanes. I believe you can prepare the paperwork now!"
"Y-Yes... Sir, I'll get right on it," Laura answered cheerfully.
As Laura turned to leave, Noah called out. "Miss Fanes?!"
"Yes, sir?"
"Register the car downstairs in your name. As I said, I'm buying it for you."
Laura suddenly became nervous, as if she was floating. "Sir, are you kidding me?"
"Have you thought I was joking all along?"
Laura immediately shook her head. "No. You weren't joking."
Without realizing, Laura jumped and hugged Noah. "Thank you, Young Sir. Thank you."
Noah patted her back gently a few times, "Yes. You deserve it. Now, could you release me."
"Huh?! ... Oh sorry," Laura blushed, realizing and letting go of her embrace.
"It's alright."
"Well then, I'll prepare the paperwork. Can you wait a bit?"
"Fine, let me know where to wait."
"Good, follow me."
As they were about to leave, Parish and Ethel still stood there with different yet equally odd expressions. But Laura quickly called for Parish.
"Miss Bates, we can't finalize these papers without you."
"Oh yes. Of course," answered Parish quickly.
Before following, Parish leaned close to the dazed Ethel.
"Even if a young man like that commanded us to crawl to his bed, we'd have to comply. You understand?! ... Now, pack your things and leave. You're fired," Parish whispered harshly.
She nearly made a tremendous mistake due to her employee's amateur behavior and almost lost an invaluable customer.
Thankfully, Laura's extra patience paid off. Parish promised to treat her very well in the future.
Selling one of their collection cars was a feat for her and the entire showroom. A promotion and a bonus were waiting.
Ethel remained motionless, recalling that she had on occasions slept with old, overweight men for a week just to get a commission from selling one car.
And now, the same type of car was given to Laura, for free.
Ethel regretted it all. She had been the first to spot Noah when he came in.
But because Noah's appearance didn't inspire confidence, Ethel dismissed and even suspected him of things unjustly.
Worse yet, she insulted him, calling him a loser.
Not only did she lose the chance to obtain what Laura now had, but Ethel also lost her job.
