Chapter 1: Rebirth

Astalia's P.O.V.

Why...?

"Astalia Lorein von Cléiton!"

ASTALIA:

How did it end up like this?

"I, Sein Gaizel de Astrad, the prince of this kingdom, hereby punish you with death for your act of treason!" Sein announced as he glared at me.

"What did I do wrong...?" I muttered.

"You really don't know? You tried to poison Estelle! Estelle is the crown princess, you shouldn't have hurt her!" Sein yelled.

Ah, right... I know what I did wrong...

As I hear the the crowd murmuring I looked at my sister's face just to see a cold smile as she mouthed the words, "Farewell, my foolish sister."

Right... What I did wrong is being naive and foolish, also for trusting these heartless creatures. After everything that I did, it looks like I won't be able to get even an ounce of affection from them. I've wasted my life too much...

I raised my head and met Sein's eyes. With a grin, I said, "If... There is a second chance, I'll definitely not be so foolish anymore."

"Even if that's the case, you'll still end up dying in my hands again." He raised his sword as he spoke.

Even though it's already the last few moments of my life, I still acted foolish and just accepted my death with a grin.

A warm feeling... Really comfortable... Am I already in heaven?

"Fufu~ Worry not, my child."

A woman's voice? Who?

"I shall tell you soon about who I am. For now, all I can say is we helped you regress back."

Regress? Me? Why did you help me?

"It is because you are chosen by the heavens. You had a difficult path and so we have given you another chance to live your life."

Chosen? What do you mean?

"Fufu~ What a curious child."

It's normal for me to be curious as I do not understand what you mean.

"Hmm, you have a point. I will answer all of your questions once you have formed your mana core since that is the time when we will meet again. So for now, farewell."

Ack! My head hurts...!

I opened my eyes and saw myself in this familiar room. Now that I think about it, isn't this my bedroom?

"What is happening...?" I murmured.

Ah, right! The mysterious woman said that they have helped me regress back. Though, how old am I right now?

I hopped down the bed and went to check myself in front of the mirror. Silvery white hair and glittering purple eyes. Yep, this is me. I think I'm about 9 or 10 years old right now.

I suddenly remembered what Sein said.

"Even if that's the case, you'll still end up dying in my hands again."

Heh~! Let's see who'll die by whose hands, Sein!

Suddenly, a knock was heard at my door.

"My lady, are you awake?" My maid asked as she carefully opened the door.

Long brown hair as smooth as silk, shiny teak wood coloured eyes and a fair skin... It's Lina!

LINA:

As soon as I saw Lina, I felt an overwhelming feeling. It has been ages since I last saw her. I still remembered how she together with Knight Zarion were slaughtered just because they were close to me. Thinking about it made me tear up but good thing I held back.

"G-Good morning, Lina." I said as I smiled.

"Yes? Ah, good morning." She greeted me back as she lowered her head respectfully.

"Umm, Lina, what day and year is it today?" I hesitantly asked.

Lina looked at me confusedly but immediately replied, "It's the 64th day of the 770th imperial year."

So I'm 10 years old right now. Estelle... I wonder what she's doing right now. Probably eating breakfast together with the others, right? That's what always happen anyway. I'm being treated as an outcast. Hmm, now that I've been given no attention, should I create my own force? They won't have any idea anyway. Though I shouldn't let my guard down too much.

"My lady?" Lina called which startled me.

"Ah, were you saying something? I apologize, I'm just pondering about something." I said as I scratched my cheek out of embarrassment.

"N-No need to apologize!" Lina hurriedly replied with a flustered expression.

"So, what were you talking about?" I asked.

"Well, umm, I was just quite surprised... You seem to have changed, my lady." Lina replied as she looked at me intently.

I avoided her gaze and said, "Hmm, really? Maybe it's because I'm in a good mood right now?"

Anyway, I should quickly form my mana core. Should I do it now?

After pondering for a while, I finally spoke, "Lina, tell everyone that I'll be in my room for a few days. Until I come out, no one shall disturb me. Especially Estelle, pay close attention to her. Don't let her come in no matter what."

"But what about your breakfast?" Lina hesitantly but worriedly asked.

"It's fine. I don't have any appetite. You don't have to worry too much, I just have something to do." I said with a smile so as to assure Lina.

"O-Okay..." Though still hesitant, Lina looks like she's calmed down a bit.

"Also, if someone asks you why I secluded myself, just tell them that you don't know. You can't answer that I have something to do." I added.

"Yes." Lina worriedly nodded and left.

"Now, shall I start?" I determinedly said as I sat down in my bed and crossed my legs.

Though in the past I can only use mana for a few days because it was completely stolen from me by a 'certain' someone, I still have a grasp of the basics. But I won't deny the fact that I became devastated when my mana was stolen from me. I can't even form my mana core anymore after that. Good thing I've been given a second chance. I'll hone my mana and won't let it be stolen again! I'm already tired of wasting my effort being the daughter they want to be when they don't even notice it!

"I need to be strong in order to protect those I want to protect." I mumbled.
