Author's POV
Choi Minhyuk was irritated. The bitch was yet to call. He glanced at his watch for the hundredth time, ignoring the looks from the lady at the reception. He was used to it when you stand at a height of six one, have dark hair, aristocratic features, pale skin and tom Hiddleston's body type who in their right mind wouldn't spare a glance.
His phone finally rang but as he scanned the screen he rolled his eyes. It was the brat.
"Yejoon, why the hell are you calling? You know your dad. It's not safe to call."
"Sorry, I just wanted to check on Minho, how is his condition? Is he awake now?" The voice at the other asked anxiously, his tone hopeful.
"He isn't, I would have risked a call if he had." Minhyuk fought the urge not to sound too sarcastic but he knew he lost that battle.
"Oh ok, what about the..." Not given a chance to complete his question.
Minhyuk cut in "no there isn't any good news concerning the flash drive, it was destroyed."
"Alright, sorry for bothering you."
"Yejoon", what if he doesn't even wake up."
"What?" He asked in a shrunken voice.
"What would I do? what would you do? You would probably move on and keep spending that paedophile's money and forget his victim was ever your best friend or that he ever existed."
Silence.
"I was right then."
"Wait, I'll..."
Then there was a loud beep.
Yejoon's POV
I felt hopelessness slash through me mercilessly. If I hadn't asked Minho that question. If he had not been my friend. If I had not invited him over. Futile two-letter: if. Always coming back to mock you from the future that could have been. A future without the aftermath of the tragedy. This was not the first tragedy.
I remembered the day I came back from school only to find the house oddly quiet and eerie. What I would see made me wary of my father but unfortunately, not wary enough to protect my best friend from him. I lost one of the people I loved most and now I could lose the other.
I had watched my parents fight so many times in my childhood I had no happy recollection of both of them together. Minho being Minho made not only made me stop bullying he made me forget the past in a bid for reconciliation.
This time there would be no second chances. I promised myself to make sure I am disinherited from my father's will. I can not bring myself to take it when my father's victim is fighting for his life. I had to get on my own two feet, mum would have wanted it that way.
If only I could get my hands on evidence to show the world the kind of person Mr Kim was but the only evidence was destroyed just as he had orchestrated. Minho's current condition, an intended outcome.
As I laid down to sleep I thought of the dreams I and Minho had and how there was still hope they would come true.
I thought of the new bitch Mr Kim set up to watch me. I wasn't stupid he knew that with Minho's help I always got straight A's. He even went as far as to give a fake report sheet. He hired her only to watch me and even let her use Minho condition to blackmail me. She is just like the rest of them. I would frustrate the bitch until she quits. They all did.
Abigail's POV
Did it really have something to do with her suicide? What was all this leading to?
I was on the bus home now all thing questions pestered my mind. It was late and Madame Min would be expecting me so would Danny.
Soon I reached the front gate of the compound and highlighted. I took out my key card and swiped and the gates automatically opened.
I reached the front door it was opened automatically by the butler, Woojin. I greeted him and made my way to my brother's room. I got there to my disappointment to see he was asleep. I walked over to his bed and sat beside him. I stroked his face. His resemblance to mom was uncanny. I noticed the dried-up streams of tears on his face. He cried himself to sleep. Again.
I knew I was hurting him but not only did I have work to do but I was afraid of what I was capable of doing now more than ever the drugs were less effective and kept seeing Zara. He didn't know that the only family he had left was a cold-blooded murderer. No one did.
Now as I looked at his little pale face with his bumblebee nightlight, I knew he was nothing like me. I thought he was innocent and vulnerable because his first memories were of bloodshed and the crying of tormented children. While I went insane. He was warm and sweet. Like, mum. Deep down I knew myself. I was weak and exacted revenge with bloodshed as they did. I was just like those men but Danny was strong and pushed away the memories and influence and became who he chose to be. I was proud of him.
I kissed his forehead for the first time in a long time and left his room. I closed the door and noticed the maid and called her.
"Mina," walking towards her "Is Madam Min asleep yet?"
"Yes, she is she had a long day." Mina gave a pleasant smile. Her sweet old lady aura always made me comfortable. Even though she was actually only in her late fifties.
"Ok, thanks."
"You are welcome."
I suppressed a yawn.
"She is not the only one, I see." Mina joked.
"Yeah, today was exhausting."
"You started tutoring today, didn't you?"
"I did, how did you know?" Abigail's widened in
"I'll never tell." She chuckled.
"Let me guess, you gave madam the idea?"
"Go to bed, Abigail." She said going back to work.
I smiled at her back and took a turn to my room. It was the second to the last room on the left down the hall of the mansion. As I approached my room, I noticed a figure leaning on the door frame of the last room on the right side. The silhouette was not one I was familiar with.
"Whose there?" I inquired boldly.
"What's it to you?" I recognized the smooth baritone of the figure's voice.
"Yoongi?"
