"This is your class schedule along with the map. This slip here is to be signed by all the teachers. You have to bring it back after the classes are over." the woman at the reception desk, Mrs. Flores, continued as I tried to remember everything. With the speed she was going on I was afraid I might end up forgetting some of it. "Here." she said after handing me a bunch of papers which I assumed contained other information that I might need to remember.
"Read these carefully. Page ten to sixteen are about all the rules and regulations that you would need to follow in future. Be careful. It might get you in trouble if they are lost or if you somehow skip any point." She looked at me, fixing her glasses on the bridge of her nose. Her eyes holding that 'no-nonsense' look and her face covered in a little extra layer of foundation, with a mole near her chin, was a bit too unnerving for me and had my mind half distracted since I entered the room. I assumed she was in her late 30's but I couldn't be sure. Hmm... was it her weird dressing sense or was because of her... okay makeup skills?
When she raised one of her eyebrows I realized I still haven't replied to her so I quickly nodded my head letting her know I understood, which I wouldn't be so sure about, and thanked her, "Thank you Mrs. Flores. I will see you after the classes." Offering her a smile I quickly began to collect everything and made my way towards the door as she turned back to the computer screen.
I moved towards my locker and after finding it I dumped the extra books inside. There was still some time left; taking out the class schedule I found my first class and made my way towards it. It was a good thing I got another map. I was really bad with directions so I'd have to make sure to remember the way this time. Walking through the hallways, I searched through the list as I tried to remember where my next class would be in advance as it would save me some time.
I was so engrossed in my little quest that I didn't notice the person in front of me until I walked into someone's hard, wall-like back. I caught myself in time before I stumbled back and made a complete fool of myself. Ughh, I thought I was doing a good job of avoiding running into people since morning. Way to go Ava. I thought to myself as I rubbed my nose. It didn't hurt much but the impact did leave me with an irritating sting.
"I... I am sorry. I wasn't paying attention." I hurriedly apologized. It was a better option if I wanted to avoid extra attention, besides it did happen because of me. Oddly though I could feel more eyes on us. I apologized again as my eyes drifted to look at the person.
The first thing that I saw was a lean muscular arm, the kind that isn't very bulky but still looks quite attractive. My eyes moved upward as I noticed the boy who was standing in front, his body half turned towards me; though I must say there was nothing that was quite boyish about him. And then my eyes fell on a beautiful pair of blue ones. It felt so mesmerising that I couldn't think anything for few seconds. I felt as if I briefly saw him somewhere but couldn't recall where.
I was suddenly woken out of my short-lived stupor as I saw his expression change from mild surprise to that of irritation and somehow that was enough to change my previous impression of him.
Well, all except the eyes, I thought shrugging internally. What? I have a fetish for beautiful eyes.
I racked my brains to come up with something to break this awkward atmosphere as he seemed to be getting more irritated as the seconds passed by, when all of a sudden I hear a familiar, voice. "Oh, Hey Ava!" I look in front of him to find Sam smiling widely at me. I wonder how is he is so happy all the time; well I was thankful to him for getting me out of this weird situation.
I notice another person beside him and suddenly it clicks in my mind. I saw them both less than even half an hour ago among Sam and Alexia's group of friends. Instead of easing my apprehension, this fact somehow increased it more. I didn't know whether I could handle mixing with them, specially the blue-eyed one. It was easier for me to get along with Alexia, hell even Sam, but these two seemed more reserved to me.
"Are you going to be in the same class as us?" Sam asked.
I looked at my list and back up again at the room number, confirming the fact. Oh, well.
Looking up at Sam I give him an awkward smile while nodding my head. "Yeah. That's right."
"So we are gonna be studying together, isn't it great!" he said looking at the other two, however I caught a hint of an underlying meaning. Though I couldn't tell what it was. "Come here let me introduce them." he said excitedly. I could feel my social anxiety building again with those words. This boy was really like a small kid! couldn't he read the temperature.
Thankfully right at that moment the bell rang signalling that the class was about to start. Sighing internally I turned to Sam, "Maybe next time Sam. I wouldn't want to be late on my first day. Thanks by the way." Giving him a quick smile I made my way towards the class as the teacher was already there. Walking up to him I gave him the slip to sign and thankfully he was kind enough to not ask me to introduce myself to everyone. This was something I liked about maths teachers, how they refrained from wasting time on such things.
As I turned around I finally noticed the eyes on me which was unnerving considering how most of them were from the girls who were... assessing me? I quickly moved at the back of the classroom hoping that might spare me but I was wrong. Some of them would turn back to throw glances at me in between so I did what I was best at. I ignored them and focused on what was being taught. Since I missed the starting two weeks, it was going to take some hard work to catch up.
Somewhere by the first half of the class, the gazes reduced by a lot and I was glad for that. I finally took this moment to look around the room. It was then I noticed another familiar face. The red head from earlier this morning was also there in the class, sitting few rows away from me. I noticed how even she had that same style and vibe like the others in her group but it did nothing other than add more allure to her look. Even I as a girl couldn't help but look more at her, I only wondered what it did to guys as I could already see some of them stealing glances at her.
I looked back at the blackboard. I really needed to focus if I wanted to be better at the subject before the monthly tests. I was back to scribbling when out of nowhere I feel a weird chill down my spine. My eyes roam around to find the source when it locks with the striking blue ones.
