I open my eyes as the car stops in what seems like to be the parking lot of the university. From what I could see of the infrastructure I noticed that how it was built outside of the actual school lands, which probably was owned by them as well. Good thing as it avoided unnecessary crowds on the university grounds.
I could already see how strict their decorum actually was. Somewhere I started to feel the familiar nervousness building up in me as assessed my surroundings.
As we started to make our way towards the main campus, I hoped in my mind that my first day here would go as uneventful and low-key as possible. In fact, it would be better if I could lay low for the remaining time that I had to spend in this university.
God knows how wrong I was there.
I take a calming breath as I mentally prepare myself with all the pep talks. Adjusting my back pack on my shoulders and not knowing where to go from here, I move to follow Ana and Sophie, though honestly speaking I had so very little faith in them. Spencer had already walked away as soon as he got down from the car.
I quietly follow behind Ana and Sophie while occasionally looking around me to observe my surroundings. Students continued to fill in around us, going around about their business. I noticed some of them staring back at me in between and because of the introvert that I had turned into recently, I of course avoided everyone of them and rather fixed my eyes on the walls around me noticing the infrastructure of the university.
It was really... amazing! The school that I attended earlier was also very good with this positive vibe to it but it wasn't this huge and beautiful. The walls and pillars around us were all shades of beige and white, lined with brick red colour at the end. In the hallways the ceiling was shaped like an arc.
I was so busy looking around that I didn't notice when all of sudden Sophie stopped walking and I had to catch myself quickly before I ran into her.
"Do you plan on following us around?" She asked while slightly narrowing her eyes.
I sigh as I try to make her realise that I literally didn't know where to go for the procedures. "You know I am new here. Could you please at least guide me to the office. You know the way better than me as you have already attended for two weeks, I don't know the way around and we still have time before the classes."
"I am sure you would be able to find your way just like we did. Its not like you would get lost or something. Besides we have more important things to do than to be seen with you." Ana replies with an eye roll.
I raise one of my eyebrows at that. It wasn't like they were very famous after coming here for just two weeks. They forgot it wasn't their old school, besides they had uncle drop them to university at their first day so obviously it wasn't really that much of a hard work to find their way around.
I scoff as I reply, "Gee, thanks for being such a big help sisters." I turn around walking away from them but not before noticing their slightly shocked looks. Just because I didn't talk much, it didn't mean that I could be easily dominated. I just didn't want to fight baseless fights. I think back to how everything used to be, how I used to be. I had always been outspoken and energetic, nothing like the Ava I had turned into now.
I sigh again. This wasn't time to think about these things. I first needed to ask someone about the way to the reception office. At times like these I wished I had been more attentive while reading such basic information about the university.
I turn to look around me to find someone so that I could ask them but everyone just continued to move around. Besides I still felt some of that social anxiety as I tried to approach anyone. It was already hard for me to look anyone in the eye, much less start a conversation.
I was really glad when a girl, standing not too far away from me with her group of friends, herself spoke up first. "I guess you must be new since how you are standing there clueless. Need some help there?" She said in a calm tone nodding towards me. She must have noticed me standing there and pitied me, but I was grateful anyway.
For a moment I didn't know how to respond as my gaze quickly swept over her group of friends and then her. Her dressing sense was a bit bold and dark, though not excessive, it still made her stand out a bit but somehow in a good way, I thought. Her aura was also something similar like that. But it oddly made me feel comfortable rather than feeling apprehensive.
She calmly stood there while some of her friends glanced at me. Tightening my grip on the strap of my bag and avoiding their eyes I asked her, "Could please guide me to the reception? I seem to have forgotten the way." I refrained from letting it know that I actually never even paid attention to the details, I didn't wanted to be mocked at the first day only.
She nods as she moves to speak something to her friends and then starts to walk away while I am quick to follow her.
Taking a peek at the group again I notice five other people there. Two dark haired boys talking to eachother while a blond one is standing beside them. Apart from them there are two girls, a red head with a pale complexion but looking surprisingly beautiful. She had to be one of the most beautiful girls I saw since I came here. There is also another dark haired girl with a short neat haircut that almost touches her shoulders. I quickly turned my eyes back in front of me noticing her staring back at me.
Suddenly the blond one joins beside the girl in front of me. "Let me accompany you ladies as well." he replies in his chirpy voice as if explaining to me.
I look over at him as he brings his hand froward for handshake, "Hi! My name is Sam and this one here is Alexia." I look at his hand for a moment before shaking it back. "Ava." I reply him, trying to muster a smile on my face.
"Not a fan of words I see." He observes with an amused smile.
"Not everyone is as talkative as you, Samuel."
" Hey, just trying to make some friends here." He reasons. I notice then that he had two piercings in one of his ears and a small vine shaped tattoo on his neck which is barely visible, disappearing beneath his grey t-shirt . He had an unkempt hair but I had to admit that it perfectly added to his 'rule-breaker' look. I guess their whole group consisted of like-minded people with similar tastes.
We soon come to stop in front of a double door which wasn't very huge but still big enough with a sign of 'Reception' above it. As we stop, I notice some passerby staring at us. Thinking nothing of it I ignored the stares as I turned to the people accompanying me.
"I can take it from here, thanks for your help." I said with a genuine smile on my face. Eventhough I just met them, they were very kind to help me, at least way better than my cousins.
" Are trying to shoo us away now." Sam said, with a teasing pout.
"N-No. That's not what I meant. I-"
"What are you, a five-year-old? Stop being an idiot." Alexia chided him. She then turned and nodded to me. "We will be leaving then." I nodded back at her.
"See you soon Ava." Sam said walking away with Alexis. Uh... not so sure about that, I thought.
Not knowing what to say to that, I just smiled back at them.
My attention went back to the office doors. Sighing for what seemed to be the umpteenth time, I made my way inside.
Let's see what the day holds for me.
