Chapter 20

My heart immediately skipped a beat when I heard that, recalling that I had kept Kevin's clothes deep inside the wardrobe when he left them in my home.

Because of all the things that happened over the next few days, I had completely forgotten about it.

"What clothes?" I pretended to be calm and asked.

"Don't play dumb! Get your *** back here now!"

"Hah! You wish. I'm still working."

Just as I was about to hang up, Jeremy threatened, "Do you want me to head to your office and argue with you there?"

That threat worked very well. If Jeremy came to my office and made a scene, I could lose the chance of landing that promotion.

Without any choice left, I asked for a half-day leave from my manager.

As soon as I opened the door to my unit, Jeremy threw a white shirt at me.

He grabbed me by my neck, effectively choking me, and pushed me back to the wall. He glared at me like a hawk and questioned, "April Hadley! How dare you cheat on me?"

"What? You can and I can't? What gives you the right to cheat on me and while I can't?" I scoffed at Jeremy.

It was not as if I was afraid that Jeremy would find out that I had cheated on him. As long as I did not cause Kevin any trouble, I was fine with it.

There was no point keeping it a secret as my goal from the beginning was to take revenge on Jeremy. It would be pointless if he did not come to learn about it.

That was why I decided to come clean.

"You shameless bi**h! What? Am I not enough to satisfy you?"

Jeremy stared at me furiously and reached out to rip my shirt.

Ever since he cheated on me, I stopped having any intimate action with him. When he tried to touch me on my sensitive spot, all I felt was disgust.

"Jeremy! Get off me!"

I tried to push him away from me, but my action only angered the man even more.

"What? You don't even let me touch you now? Which f**king guy did you sleep with?"

As he yelled, he grabbed my shirt and ripped it open from the front.

Suddenly, he froze and stared at my chest.

His face turned even redder from the anger and pushed me back.

I understood why he was so enraged. It was because the hickey that Kevin had left the night before was still clearly visible on my chest.

The push caused me to fall to the ground. Before I could even struggle to get up, Jeremy punched me.

"You shameless wh**e!"

I tried to hide from his punches, but there was no place for me to run to. All I could do was try and shield myself from him.

When he finally stopped, all I could feel was the pain all over my body.

He pulled me up by my collar and roared, "Who's the man?"

I found the situation incredibly ironic when I saw his expression.

"Jeremy, you should've expected for this to happen the moment you betrayed me," I scoffed.

Just as I expected, that angered him again. As he raised his fist and tried to punch me again, I dropped my arms and closed my eyes. "Come on. Just hit me until I die. Kill me! At least I can drag you down to hell with me!"

Jeremy was stunned for a second before grabbing the stool next to us and bringing it down on me.

Just as the stool was about to hit my head, my mother-in-law charged out of the room and stopped her son by grabbing his arms.

"Jeremy! Stop! You shouldn't risk your life for such a woman!"

I opened my eyes and my heart turned even colder.

I did not expect that from the moment I walked into the house, my mother-in-law was hiding in the room the whole time. Even when Jeremy punched me, she did not come out. If not for what I had said, she would most likely never come out. She was only afraid that her son would get the death penalty if he killed me there.

"Since she did such a shameless act, you can just make her give you all of her money and divorce her!" my mother-in-law tried to persuade Jeremy.

Jeremy walked towards the couch and sat down while wrapping his arms around his head.

"No! I don't want a divorce," he suddenly said.

It was not just my mother-in-law that was surprised. I was also shocked by that declaration.

I could tell that from how much Jeremy hated me, there was no way he still had feelings for me.

"Oh, my son, what are you talking about? There's no way we can have a woman like that in our family," my mother-in-law said. "I'm even tempted to ask her family why they are keeping such a shameless daughter."

As my mother-in-law continued to belittle me, I closed my eyes and rested my body on the wall. I did not have any energy left to wipe the blood that was dripping down my face.

When I opened my eyes and saw my reflection in the mirror in front of me, I noticed the dishevelled state I was in.

My face was completely swollen from Jeremy's punches to the point where I could not even recognize myself. My hair was a complete mess and my shirt was ripped open in half. There were bruises all over my arms as well.

After a long pause, Jeremy finally raised his head and said, "No! I have to find out who the man is!"
