When Jeremy heard what I said, his expression darkened.
He glared at me as if he was about to rip me into shreds and gritted his teeth. "Are you the one who did this?"
"There are a lot of helpful people in this world, you know?" I said and turned to leave.
"April Hadley!" The man suddenly yelled after I had walked a distance away from him. "You better not blame me for being ruthless!"
Being ruthless?
I smirked. Compared to what he did to me, his threat meant nothing.
Putting Jeremy in jail for a night gave me a sense of relief. It was as if I had gotten my sweet revenge and I felt refreshed.
I hailed a car and returned to work after that.
When I finally arrived at the company, a group of my female colleagues had gathered together and were gossiping about something. When they noticed I was approaching them, they quickly ran back to their tables.
Only Julia remained. She greeted me and said, "Someone posted a video online yesterday. It was something about the police raiding a hotel and catching someone in the act of cheating. The man who got caught looks a lot like your Jeremy."
She could not even hide her smirk when she said that.
Her expression clearly showed that she was enjoying the moment. It was like she finally found a scandal about me and was eager to hear my answer to it.
Everyone also shifted their attention to me when Julia asked that.
I looked at her and finally replied, "He probably just looks like Jeremy."
I returned to my table and sat down.
Before I could even start working, my phone's sounded because of a notification. I took my phone out and realized there was a video of what had happened the night before.
The video stopped when Jeremy yelled at Kevin.
As the video was shot in higher quality, I could not deny anything even if I wanted to. It was so frustrating that I shut my phone off.
Fortunately, it was time to start work and everyone returned to their business.
I also shifted my focus back to work. I already had a brief idea on the advertisement design for the Solistitial Group's new product.
It was a skincare product formulated to remove the slight wrinkles on women's faces and was targeted at women above 25.
Women around that age were still mostly trying to make a name for themselves in their respective fields, but most would also start a family or are preparing to get married.
I decided to name the title of the advertisement "Redefined". It was based on my marriage.
The content was focused on the comeback of an abandoned wife.
As soon as I let everyone know about the title I had in mind, my team members all looked at each other.
Some even sneaked a few peeks at me.
I looked at them and pretended not to notice their judgemental stares. I opened my computer and shared the PowerPoint that I prepared on the projector.
"The price for the whole range of new products is set at $800. They are targeted at women around the age of 25 to 35. Most women in this age group would start to struggle in their marriage and would save a lot of money for their family or children..." I spoke with confidence. "That's why the main purpose of our advertisement is to remind them that they also need to take care of themselves, that a woman should never give up on herself. No matter what stage of life a woman is in, she should be pretty and live a wonderful life."
After I finished my presentation, everyone in the meeting room clapped and cheered.
"Ms. Hadley! That was an amazing presentation!"
I looked at my team members and forced a smile, "Alright. Let's start thinking of a slogan."
After the meeting ended, my manager summoned me into his office. "April! Come to my office for a second."
I was stunned for a second but followed him into his office.
After he sat down, he said, "If we are selected by the Solistitial Group to handle this project, you'll be the project leader. You'll also handle the communications with their company."
I did not expect my manager to leave all the decision-making to me for this project. It was so shocking that I could not hide my excitement. "I'll make sure the advertisement comes out great!" I assured.
It was no longer a secret that my manager was going to be promoted to a general managing director at one of the company's branches. With his position open, Julia and I were in the best spot to step up as the new manager.
If I could land the contract with the Solstitial Group, then I would have a head start in the race with an 80% chance of victory.
The thought of that gave me even more motivation.
I got a call from Jeremy when it was lunchtime. I wanted to ignore him, but he kept calling insistently.
As my colleagues started to look at me since I did not put my phone on silent mode, I quickly headed to the toilet to answer the phone.
The moment I accepted the call, Jeremy yelled into his phone, "April Hadley! Why is there another man's clothes in our wardrobe?"
