"Shut your trap! Hand over your identity card!" One of the officers roared and turned to Mollie, who was in a set of pajamas, too. "You too, lady!"
Jeremy had made himself look even more suspicious as he fidgeted around and was reluctant to take out his identity card.
"I-I forgot my identity card at home..."
When the officer heard that, he could not help but laugh at Jeremy's weak excuse. "Then, how did you get a room here without your identity card? Huh? If you don't have it, then give me your work license!"
In the end, Jeremy had no choice but to hand over his identity card.
The officer checked the identity card on his tablet. Once the result came back, he raised his head to look at Jeremy and scoffed, "You said the both of you are a couple? Man, you really need to think of a better excuse. It says here you are married."
The officer then turned to his colleagues and ordered, "Take them back to the station!"
As the government was trying to reduce the rate of infidelity, they needed to make an example out of someone. And unfortunately for Jeremy and Mollie, they were among the first batch of "couples" to get caught.
Even if Mollie was not a **********, it was still illegal in my country for a married man and a single lady to be in a relationship. Being in the same hotel room only made them look even more suspicious.
The officer quickly cuffed Jeremy and dragged him out of the room while he was still in his boxers. Mollie followed behind them, sobbing.
Just as they were about to enter the elevator, Jeremy suddenly turned around and noticed Kevin in the crowd. At that moment, it was as if Jeremy had lost his mind and roared at Kevin, "Kevin! You bastard! You are the one who did this, right? What? Are you trying to punish me for what I did?"
On the other hand, Mollie was glaring at me. My instinct immediately told me that she had recognized me.
I subconsciously hid behind Kevin to avoid her stare.
Jeremy was about to charge at Kevin when the officer kicked him from behind and scolded, "You bastard! Don't cause any more trouble!"
That one kick was more than enough to shut Jeremy up.
All he could do was glare at Kevin as if he was a viper eyeing its target.
After Jeremy and Mollie were taken away, Kevin and I were the only ones left in the hallway. The rest of the crowd had returned to their own rooms.
"It's quite late. Why don't you head back first?" I suggested.
"What? Are you getting rid of me once you've used me?" Kevin joked. "That's cold."
"Come on! I still have a lot to do!" I laughed. "Now that Jeremy and Mollie are caught, I don't even need to find evidence to prove that Jeremy is cheating on me anymore. The police already have the evidence. But I still need to prepare for the divorce."
What I basically did was kill two birds with one stone.
In the end, Kevin let out a sigh and said, "Fine... I'll head back first then. Let me know if you need me again."
He waved goodbye and walked into the elevator.
Around an hour later, my phone rang. I immediately recognized the number as it was from the police station. I ignored the call and shut my phone off.
I was pretty sure they were calling me so that I could bail Jeremy out of jail. There was no way I would do that when I could let Jeremy have a taste of what spending a night inside a cell felt like.
That was probably one of the best nights I had in the past few weeks. I even put a face mask on and surfed through social media on my laptop before falling asleep.
Minutes after I started up my phone the next morning, I got another call.
After hanging up on the call from the police station, I slowly cleaned myself and got dressed before leaving.
As my mother-in-law was someone who would wake up at the slightest noise, she always slept with her phone off. That was why Jeremy and Mollie had spent the whole night at the police station.
It would almost impossible to make Jeremy confess that he was cheating, much harder than having him confess that he was hiring a **********. And since he could not explain his relationship with Mollie, the police charged him with illegal prostitution.
When I signed the bail, the female officer looked at me with pity in her eyes.
As soon as Jeremy saw me, his eyes shot wide open and he jumped out of his seat. His stubble was starting to show. His hair was a complete oily mess. It was a disgusting sight to behold.
I looked at Jeremy and realized I could not recognize him any longer.
After a moment of pause, I finally said to him in a cold tone, "Let's go."
However, Jeremy did not move and turned to look at Mollie.
"What?" I scoffed. "Do you still want to embarrass yourself here?"
"What about Mollie?" Jeremy whispered.
"I'm only related to you here, not that lady over there."
I emphasized the word lady to make it sound like Mollie was indeed a **********. Her expression turned sour as she glared at me furiously. "April Hadley! Don't think you've won this time!"
"Are you sure you want to do this here?" I looked around, noticing that a lot of people had shifted their attention towards us.
Jeremy quickly stopped Moillie and looked at me. "Let's go..."
He then left without looking back.
"Well then, lady, goodbye." I smiled at Mollie before I turned and left as well.
When we were finally out of the station, Jeremy stopped and growled, "April! I'm warning you! Don't go overboard!"
"I could say the same thing to you," I mocked.
It was practically impossible for a married couple to reach the state that we were in.
After taking a few steps, I suddenly paused and turned around. "If you want a divorce, fine. But, we'll have to split our combined assets equally."
"What? Do you think you earn as much as me? Why the heck should I do that?"
"Because you cheated on me." I grinned and pointed at the police station. "It's even recorded by the police! Let's see how you talk your way out of this now!"
