Chapter 15

When Jeremy and I graduated from university, I joined the well-established advertising agency that I was working at today. On the other hand, Jeremy partnered up with our senior to start a new company.

When the company that I worked at had received job requests that they did not want to handle, I would go behind their back and give the information to Jeremy. His company slowly grew with the clients that I had introduced to them.

I did not expect that he would try to get the project from the Solistitial Group as well.

I subconsciously tapped my fingers on the table until an idea suddenly came to my mind. I decided that I would do everything in my power to prevent Jeremy from signing the contract.

My goal was to make sure that Jeremy pays for all the benefits I gave him, with interest on top of that.

Some might think that I was overthinking it since it was unlikely that Jeremy's small company would be able to land a deal with the Solistitial Group. However, I never dared to look down on Jeremy's ability.

I have learned that he was a person who would resort to dirty tricks to achieve his goal.

When work finally ended, it had started raining outside. I tried to get an Uber to drive me back but could not find one as it was rush hour.

Just as I was wondering if I should brave the rain to reach the bus stop, a car slowly pulled to a stop in front of me.

I could tell that the car was an expensive one. I wondered who it was. The door to the rear seat opened and a familiar voice said, "Get in."

I lowered my head and saw Kevin in the rear seat.

Before I could react, he continued to say, "Hurry up and get in. You're getting wet."

I nodded and climbed into the car.

"Is this your car?" I asked while looking at him in confusion.

The shock was paramount to someone learning that they were adopted.

As I was about to reach some wild conclusion in my head, Kevin said, "There's a new function in Uber right? For hailing expensive cars."

I nodded, knowing what he was trying to say.

I had heard that the newest addition to the Uber service was luxury cars, but the price was premium as well.

Even though I never called for a luxury car on Uber before, I assumed that Kevin had gotten one.

On our way back, I recalled that Kevin was an employee at the Solistitial Group and asked about the company's recent status.

However, Kevin kept his mouth shut after I asked that question.

"I-I'm just curious, that's all," I quickly said. "If it's a problem for you to tell me, then you don't have to."

Kevin continued to keep quiet for a few minutes before saying, "I can't assure you that we will choose your company to advertise our new product. Perhaps you're asking me to prevent Jeremy's company from getting the contract?"

My eyes grew wide when I heard Kevin say that. "Is it possible?"

It wasn't until I finished my questions that I realized that Kevin was just a normal employee at the Solistitial Group. If he were to help me and lose his job because of that, I would never be able to live with the guilt.

I immediately felt bad and quickly told him, "Uh... You know what? It's okay. You don't have to do anything."

I believed that as long as I worked hard, Jeremy would not be able to get his hand on the contract. In the end, compared to the company that I worked at, Jeremy's company was way smaller in size. The bigger company would have the upper hand.

"It's not like I'm doing this just to help you," Kevin said as he smiled at me. "I've been wanting to mess with him for quite some time now. Do you really think I'm that nice?"

If Kevin had not mentioned it, I would have forgotten that Kevin's girlfriend had cheated on him with Jeremy. It made sense that he was angrier at Jeremy than me.

Now that he had a chance to take his revenge, there was no way he would miss it.

His reaction made him seem more humane. In the past, he was way too nice towards Jeremy and Mollie, and it resulted in the two of them exploiting his kindness.

As we continued to chat, I noticed that we were about to reach the hotel I was staying at. I quickly asked the driver to stop the car.

"Are you staying here now?" Kevin asked while staring at me.

"I just moved out yesterday." I nodded. I had no idea why I suddenly had the idea of teasing Kevin and blinked innocently at him. "Hey! It's pretty lonely staying alone. Do you want to come up and keep me company for a while?"
