Chapter 2

"Hubby, I had a nightmare last night..." I said in a hoarse voice.

The man that I hugged froze up for a moment before moving my hands away and turning around.

It was only then that I shockingly realised that the man in front of me was not Jeremy but Kevin.

I could not help but find the similarities between them funny. They both had the same height and body type. It was practically impossible to differentiate them from behind.

That was the first time in my life that I felt so awkward. I couldn't believe that I mistook Kevin for Jeremy. To make matters worse, he even rejected my advances the day before. It was so embarrassing that I wanted to dig a hole in the floor and burrow myself in it.

"Go clean yourself up. Breakfast's ready." Kevin looked at me without any expression on his face and brought the food to the dining table.

My first impression of Kevin was that he was a calm and steady man, and my interactions with him proved this notion right. What I did not expect was that he could still keep his calm and steady demeanour after being cheated on.

As I ate, I eyed Kevin carefully and asked, "How can you be so calm when your girlfriend cheated..."

Before I could finish my sentence, he shot me an angry look and said, "What? Should I react like you then?"

His words made me regret my question.

"Drink the soup. It helps you recover from blood loss," he said.

I was stunned for a second before realizing that all the dishes he had prepared were known to promote recovery from excessive blood loss. I never would have thought that he was such an attentive person. Even Jeremy never cared for me to such an extent before.

The thought of my husband made my eyes tear up again. As I sobbed, I asked, "What did I do wrong? Why did he betray me?"

"Does a man ever need a reason to cheat?" Kevin raised his head and looked at me as if I was an idiot.

I choked on my food and found no words to counter him. "But... Then, why don't you want me? I'm not asking for money, nor am I asking you to take any responsibility. You even get the opportunity to take revenge on your girlfriend for cheating on you. It's like hitting three birds with one stone. Why not do it?"

The man put his spoon down and his expression turned serious. "First, I'm giving you a month so you won't regret your decision. Second, I'm not that horny that I would want to sleep with a lady who just had a miscarriage."

When I heard his explanation, I felt extremely embarrassed.

If I was not completely enraged, if I was not so eager to exact revenge on Jeremy, I would never have asked such a reckless request from Kevin.

What I had inside of me at that time was a flame of anger, and I needed someplace to diminish that fire.

After I finished my meal, Kevin started to clean the dishes.

I had to admit that not only was he good-looking, but his manners were also amazing as well. Overall, he was leaps and bounds better than Jeremy could ever be. I could not help but wonder how blind his girlfriend had to be to betray such a perfect man for Jeremy.

It was then that I finally understood that that was no reason for either a man or a woman to cheat.

All that was left now was the two of us, both of which were cheated on by their partners.

"You should take a month's leave from work. I'll come over and cook for you. Try to stay in and rest as much as you can," Kevin said as he left my unit.

I stood by the door and said in a low voice, "Actually, you don't have to do this. I know you're trying to atone for what your girlfriend has done to me, but the both of you are two separate people. I know who to blame. We are both the victims here..."

Before I could finish my sentence, his expression darkened again. At that moment, I wanted to slap myself in the face for saying that. No man in the world would be happy to be constantly reminded that he was cheated on.
