Futility

As soon as Wu took a few steps back, Ichiro dashed to the girl. He swung his sword at her. A metallic sound filled the room. Ichiro looked forward to see the girl blocking his sword with two fingers.

...'You're mocking me', he grunted....

...'Yeah, maybe'...

The boy tried different spells and combinations on the girl, but it was all in vain. He knew that the only solution to get out of the madness was too hard, but that was his only choice.

After a couple minutes of trying to chase his enemy, Ichiro stopped in one place, concentrating his whole Energy into his katana.

...'Huh? An actual skill? That's a first', the girl said jokingly....

Ichiro's anger and adrenaline made him squeeze more Energy out of his Soul. 'Here we go', he whispered to himself.

...'ENHANCE : 95%'...

As he said that, his legs started to pump more and more.

...'A physical enhancement spell? Impressive', said the girl, clearly unimpressed....

After a few seconds, Ichiro jumped and, with light speed, he landed right behind the girl.

...'WIND AURA 1 - STREAM SLASH'...

As Ichiro swung his blade, the girl was thrown in the air by 8 small currents.

...'Finally', said Ichiro. 'Now to finish this-'...

...'You're not finishing anything'...

The girl was right behind him, holding her dagger to the boy's throat.

......'I won't lie, it was a good fight, but you lack speed. And Wind is probably not your actual element. Anyway, he's okay Sensei. Rank C-8 would be fitting', the girl said as she canceled the old man's barrier spell like it was air.......

...'Huh? How? What?', asked the confused Ichiro....

...'Doesn't matter, you can't do any of this anyway', said the girl arrogantly.......

A few hours later, Ichiro was in bed. He was feeling a bit down knowing all his powers were useless. One thing kept bothering him though. He started thinking about what the girl said to him after the fight. 'Wind is not my element...? What could she possibly mean by that? That's the element that I'm the most comfortable with since... forever'. A short while later, he got in the shower, his thoughts still rushing in his head. As he was spaced out, it took him a few minutes to notice that something was wrong with the water.

...'Okay, I am thinking too much into it? Wait... why am I still dry?', he looked up, noticing the water was bending right around him. 'Something is clearly wrong'...

A couple of minutes later, he got out of the shower, as he couldn't get the water to even touch him. He dressed up and started walking to the Hallway in which he fought earlier. The girl was still there, organizing some weapons. She looked back and noticed Ichiro.

...'Huh? What are you doing here?', she asked....

...'Um... I have a... weird question'...

...'Nothing I wouldn't expect. So... what is it?'...

He looked at her, realizing something as he was about to ask her about the shower. 'I don't even know her name, man.'

...'The name's Hikari'...

...'What? Questionable...'...

Ichiro looked at her confused, trying to realize how she actually read what he was thinking.

...'I can use Energy to read someone's thoughts. The problem is that it takes a lot of Energy and I can only read thoughts about me. Though, the second one isn't really a problem', she said....

...'That's an odd spell, but good to know. Anyway, I wanted to ask you about the shower. The water was... avoiding me? Why is that happening?'...

Hikari started laughing with tears.

...'What's the joke?', asked Ichiro confused....

...'Okay... I can talk now. The water here is enhanced by Energy. If you have any Water Energy in your Soul, the water will react until you can control it. So, as I said, Wind is not your element'...

Ichiro looked at her, half shocked and half confused.

...'So... You mean.. I should practice Water?!', he asked...

...'Yes, pretty much. I'm done here. Come with me for a bit'...

Ichiro followed the girl out of the building. They went to a nearby lake. Hikari sat down on the grass and patted next to her, telling Ichiro to sit next to her. They both sat down quietly for about a minute. Then, Hikari looked at Ichiro.

...'So, you see this lake in front of us, right?', she asked....

...'Yes, obviously'...

...'Good, you're not blind. So, I'm going to put my hand on your back and transfer some of my Energy to you'...

...'Oh... um, alright. If you say so'...

The girl placed her hand in center of Ichiro's back. He suddenly got goosebumps, as he felt all the Energy flowing through his veins.

...'Okay, this should be enough. If I fill you with my Energy more, your Soul is literally going to explode. Now, you're at 110% of your Energy capacity so you should be able to do it easily. Concentrate all your Energy in your hand and try imagining you lift the water with it', the girl explained....

...'On it'....

Ichiro lifted his hand up and closed his eyes. He felt all the Energy slowly flowing from his chest to his shoulder, then to his forearm, then his hand. Afterwards, he tried creating an image of the water moving in front of him. After a few seconds, Hikari touched his shoulder.

...'You can end it now', she said....

Ichiro opened his eyes and saw a big bubble of water in front of him.

...'Did I actually do this?', he asked....

...'Yeah, you weren't bad at all y'know? Anyway, hurry up and go to your room. Considering how much Energy you used today, you will probably pass out... soon'...

...'SOON? What does that even mean?!'...

As he greeted Hikari one last time, he ran to his room. When he got there, he was already feeling his body get heavier and heavier and, as he threw himself in the bed, he fell asleep in an instant.
