The Mirage in the Mirror (2)

Feeling her whole world was spinning, Rain McConnell took a step backward and finally stabilized herself. She hadn't expected the package would have been sent here, so did this mean that he knew everything about her? Or was this package his silent threat? After all, there was not only her in this mansion but also her family.

The more Rain thought about it, the more scared and flustered she turned. She had no idea how she should have handled this issue. Could she call the police? However, Xavier Lewis' background was so strong that she didn't dare to put her family's safety at risk. She couldn't afford any tiny mistake. What about escaping? She had run away from Tughland to the other side of the world, Hattingnom, but where else could she hide?

She had received the package on Tuesday. Since then, Rain had tossed and turned to think about the note. She hadn't had any appetite nor slept well, which made her skinnier just within three days. Till Friday night, and she knew it was time to make up her mind.

The only thing that Xavier wanted was her, so there was no use no matter how hard she tried to run. In this case, she might as well be brave and face this devil. The worst that could happen was being kidnapped back to Tughland. Seeing his playful attitude, Rain knew the feeling to control her life was what actually boosted his mind. As long as she could ensure the security of her family, this obstacle was nothing for her.

After six in the evening, the sky turned darker and darker with the sun going down. Rain had planned to find an excuse to go for a walk and sneak out to Vermont Hotel. However, much to her surprise, when she was about to go out, a guest came to see her at home.

It was the guy she had supposed to have a date with in the bistro. Since they hadn't seen each other the last time, she had completely forgotten this man. She hadn't expected their common friend to take him here, which put her in a difficult situation.

She had known this friend trying to set them up for a long time, who was a talkative and energetic girl. The whole family came to the living room to see Rain's date, but she did not even bother to see what the man actually looked like. Seeing the time pass by minute, she was on pins and needles.

Vermont Hostel was around Belga Lake, where it would take her about forty minutes to arrive from her home. She couldn't imagine if she showed up late or stood that man up, triggering that man, what could happen to her.

The guy had stayed in the McConnell's mansion for more than an hour, and Rain had remained silent. During the talk, her grandparents had asked about the guy's background. Finally, her childhood friend stood up and said it was time to leave Rain alone, but her grandpa smiled at her and said. "Little girl, they are our guest, so walk them to the door."

Rain knew he was very fond of this man through her grandpa's words. However, Rain no longer had time to care about this anymore. All of a sudden, she could let the nervousness in her mind go. Standing up right away, she said, "Yes, let me walk you out."

As everyone in the family was laughing, Rain hurried out the door. Not long after walking, their common friend found an excuse to leave the two of them staying alone. However, the only thing in her mind was how to get rid of this guy, so she walked him to the bus stop and left straight away and gave him her phone number as he asked.

She lowered her head to check the time, and it was already seven-fifty. Rain stood at the roadside to try to catch a cab. In the dark, a black Volkswagen drove towards her without making a noise. Just when she thought it was just a random car passing by, a black Volkswagen unexpectedly stopped at her side. The door opened, and someone with big hands grabbed her waist to drag her into the car.

There was no light in the car, and Rain was scared out of the skin. Being dragged from the bright street into the blackness, she couldn't adjust her vision. Someone pulled her into his arms, but the one who had gripped her body seemed to enjoy this moment, leisurely rubbing her soft waist.

After struggling for a few seconds, she suddenly calmed down. These arms, this body temperature, and these scents, everything couldn't be more familiar with her, although she didn't want to admit that she could easily distinguish who this man was without seeing his face.

A low chuckle came from overhead, and a familiar but strange voice came to her ear with a flirty tone, "Rainy, long time no see. You are still this energetic."

Rain finally stopped trying to break free, staying motionlessly. She had been scared and frightened about tonight, but seeing him made her breathe a sigh of relief. Xavier's hands moved as he held her, sliding back and forth along the willowy curve of her back. At the same time, she was still lying in his arms and clinging to his body alluringly. "And still this passionate too, huh?" he buried his head in the nook of her neck and said.

Rain bit her lip. The fear, sadness, loss, and many other complex emotions strangled every nerve of her body. However, she didn't feel that much fear. Whenever he appeared, the unique aura from him would tightly wrap around her like an invisible rope, squeezing her heart so hard that she couldn't breathe. "It's been so long. Tell me, do you miss me?" Xavier's lips slipped through her ears as he asked.

"Xavier Lewis, what exactly do you want?" Rain violently pushed him away, propped herself up, and sat up. She stared at the man in front of her, eyes full of the guard. On the other hand, he didn't care about her resistant attitude. Comfortably adjusting his posture, he propped up his head to look at her. "That man looks pretty nice. Honest, competent, calm, he is very suitable for you."

He had a calm smile and ironic tone as casually teasing her. However, Rain suddenly turned anxious, and what had happened in Tughland came to her mind. "That man and I are basically strangers, so don't hurt me."

He looked at her without saying a word. The moment she closed her mouth, she knew she had made a mistake, turning the situation even worse. Explaining their relationship would only make Xavier think there was something between them, and he must have thought she was trying to protect that man.

"You don't know each other? Isn't it your second date? Why would you draw the line?"

He spoke softly, but the smile on his face disappeared. Rain was speechless for a moment. As she had expected, he had seriously been watching her. A deep chill rose from the bottom of her heart, resenting against herself for being innocent enough to think leaving Tughland could help her escape from this man of the devil.

After finishing the sentence, he tilted his head to look out of the car in silence. In the night, his black Volkswagen quietly drove through the streets. Soon they arrived at the destination, and they weren't at Vermont Hotel but an ordinary residential building.

Pulling her out of the car, Xavier held her as he walked as if they were a couple. As a tall man, it was was easy for him to wrap his arms around her body. Rain's body stiffened for a moment, and this subtle reaction did not escape from his eyes. He glanced down at her, smiling.

The building was an exclusive community. After swiping his key card, Xavier took her straight into one of the houses and took the lift to the top floor. There was only one flat on each floor, completely protecting the residents' privacy. Xavier opened the door, and half turned his body to look at her, "come in."

If this was her destiny, then there was no way for her to run away. She just hoped this man would let her go after conquering her body. Rain slowly walked into the house, thinking about the dangerous touch between them last time on the island and her vigorous attack blow.

She had used all her strength at that moment, hitting his severe wound and most vulnerable part. She had no idea how much she had hurt him, but the man seemed not to remember what had happened and looked at her with a smile as warm as when they first met. "Rainy, this is one of my houses. For the time being, you will have to stay here for a while."

"Are you putting me under house arrest?"

Rain smiled and decided to face what had already happened calmly. Xavier stood still without speaking, looked at her in silence for half a second, and turned around, "You can use this house as you like. Someone will come every day and you can write what you need on the paper to him so that he will buy them for you. As long as you don't leave this door, you are completely free."

Rain had a slight sneer, stepping forward to stop Xavier. She unbuttoned her top as her hands and body were shaking, but her expression was very determined and cold. Watching her movements, Xavier didn't move at all, cold as a statue.

Rain removed his skirt, threw it to the floor, and then pulled off her bra. The bright moonlight clearly depicted her warm, milk-like skin and beautiful body lines through the tall floor-to-ceiling windows. On this midsummer night, she removed her dress and bra, standing nakedly in front of this man. Rain clenched her fists and looked at him, "what do you want? Take away what you want and let me go."

Xavier did not speak. He stood at the division between light and darkness, and the dim light crawled onto his face, so it was hard for her to see his expression clearly. Silence spread soundlessly in the room, and Rain heard her rapid breathing and heartbeat.

After a while, the silent man finally moved, taking a step forward. His face slowly turned sharp in the blackness, and he lowered his eyes to glare at her maliciously. His behavior had struck across her courage out of anger, making her unconsciously take a step back in fluster.

All of a sudden, her world was spinning again. The man held her body up, turning to kick open the bedroom door and pressing her hard against the big soft bed. His weight was almost too much for her to breathe. However, he lifted his body within a second and stared at her from the top. The coldhearted smile gradually replaced his emotionless expression, "What if you are what I want? How could I let you go?"
