The Other Side (2)

Rain kept a straight face, not wanting to let this man get too complacent. Feeling embarrassed, Xavier said, "I want to pee."

Hearing what he said, Rain flushed. "I ... I help you to the toilet."

Eating, drinking, pooping and peeing were major events of life. Answering the call of nature, no one should feel embarrassed. Besides, he was still sick. Keeping telling herself that he was just an ordinary patient, Rain tried her best to ignore the fact that he was Xavier.

One of his arms could not move and he could not support himself to pee with only one arm. According to his current condition, for him, even standing was barely possible. In a few minutes, his lips turned dreadfully pale.

They fell silent in the toilet for a moment. Turning her head, she said, "I ... I help you. Hurry up."

Rain helped him for a long time, but he still did not take a pee. After all, his weight was almost 220 pounds. Feeling that her hands were drained of all the strength, she said, "You want to pee or not!"

Xavier let out a low curse. "How can I take a pee when a living person stands behind me?!"

Rain couldn't help but burst out laughing. Quickly holding back the laughter, she said, "I won't listen to it, okay? Besides, I'm a doctor. You're a patient. Don't think too much."

Finally, he urinated successfully. After he finished answering the call of nature, she helped him to walk back. Accidentally catching a glimpse of a certain part of his body, she found that he was having a hard-on. The ***** of man was not only his excretory organ but also his genital. Rain blushed at the sight of it, turning her head to pretend that she saw nothing. When they were in the cottage, they slept in the same bed for one night. They were almost *****, but nothing happened. So he could only have strong feelings in such a circumstance?!

Rain stopped thinking about it. She helped Xavier into the room. This time Xavier quietly lied down on the bed, not uttering a word. Taking a pee consumed a lot of his physical strength. Lying in bed, he watched Rain simply clean up the room. Rain slept on the floor. They fell silent, hearing the whirring sound of the fan.

Rain could feel that Xavier was watching her in the dark. His gaze made her uneasy. Turning over, she had her back to him. Xavier was so badly injured that he definitely could not leave her home for a while. Fortunately, she still had two days off, so she could take care of him at home.

But after two days, she still needed to get back to work. Once she started working, she would have no time to look after him. His wounds needed to be treated and had to be dressed every day. He also needed regular injections to reduce inflammation. Especially in such hot weather the wounds would fester and get infected easily. Her mind was full of thoughts, which exhausted her energy. Finally, she fell asleep.

Rain and Xavier were awakened the next day by the noise outside. When she opened her eyes, Xavier was lying in bed. His deep gaze dwelled on her. He cracked a faint smile on his face when his eyes met hers. He said, "Good morning."

"Good morning."

Rain felt a little embarrassed. Quickly getting up, she hid in the toilet. In the morning light, his eyes seemed like shining stars. The glint in his eyes made her heart beat quickly. Rain fiercely washed her face with cool water, telling herself to calm down. She had to keep composure.

When she returned to the room, Xavier sat on his bed, seeing the lively street outside through the balcony door. He slightly squinted his eyes. For no reason, he gradually put on a murderous look. Standing at the bathroom door, she looked at him. Suddenly she felt that Xavier was so far away from her. Although he appeared in her life, how long could she keep him?

The two of them were supposed to be two parallel lines. Accidentally, the two lines intersected with each other, but they were doomed to separate. In the end, they still had to return to their original positions.

"Who was the person that sent me back with you yesterday?"

Xavier suddenly opened his mouth. Rain was startled. At that time, she thought he was unconscious. Xavier turned his head, his cold eyes dwelling on Rain. Seeing Rain stiffen, he asked, "He is your colleague?"

"He's just an ordinary caregiver. I interacted with him in the hospital. He doesn't know anything. He ... is a good person."

Rain made the explanation anxiously, but she could not even explain to herself why she added the last sentence. Xavier looked at her in silence. Clenching her fist, she felt that her heart was beating violently. What was she worried about? This man was so badly injured that he could only stay with her, and he needed her help. What else was she worried about?

The coldness deep within her body penetrated every inch of her soul. Looking at her, Xavier cracked a smile on his face all of a sudden. Such a smile diluted the tension and coldness. "Rainy, I want to remind you. I'm still a healthy adult man. Personally speaking, I think it is not a wise choice to give me such strong stimulation early in the morning. It would be bad for my health."

Hearing what he said, Rain was stunned for a moment. She looked at Xavier in a daze, not knowing what he was talking about. Seeing that he shifted his gaze down to her chest, she lowered her head. Suddenly realizing what he was talking about, she flushed with embarrassment. When she was washing her face in the toilet, the water drenched her silk pajama. The translucent fabric clung to her body, perfectly depicting her beautiful shape. She did not know that her nipples were like beautiful flowers that burst into bloom in the cold weather.

Rain rushed back into the bathroom with panic. When she heard his unbridled laughter from outside, she suddenly remembered the first time she met him. She remembered his fierce hug and kiss in the pub.

Rain warned herself inwardly, "Don't think about it. Don't think about it." She clutched her head, trying her best to get rid of all the thoughts about Xavier. She was an ordinary doctor who led a peaceful life. She had kind family and friends, while he was different. He was an outlaw living on the edge of life and death. Their life paths would never be the same. So she just needed to repay the favor and wait until his injuries got better. Then it would be over between them.

Xavier's wounds needed care. She had risked operating on him. The operation pulled him out of danger, but the first-aid supplies and medicines she prepared at home were far from enough. Returning to the hospital, Rain said that her friend suffered a traumatic injury. She needed to prescribe some anti-inflammatory medicine that could promote wound healing for him. Most of the medical staff in the hospital were on holiday, and there were only a few doctors on duty, all of whom were still on good terms with Rain. The pharmacist, Sylvan Duryea, had already prepared medicines for her. She suddenly asked her, "Rainy, Tad's funeral will be held the day after tomorrow. Are you going to attend?"

"What did you say?!"

Rain felt extreme coldness as if she had fallen into an ice cellar. She was dumbfounded, looking at Sylvan in a daze. Lowering her head, Sylvan touched her forehead with her fingers. "God! You still don't know that. Poor Tad. He was such a good guy in our hospital. Last night he and his friends hung out together and then he was run over by a big truck. It seemed to be an accident. Tomorrow is the New Year, however, he passed away."

Tad. Tad.

Rain did not know how she got out of the hospital. Outside the sun was very strong. The sun that was like a burning fire made her dizzy. Tad was the caregiver who took Xavier to her home with her. Why did such a thing happen to him? How could it be so coincidental? She knew about his death right after Xavier asked the question.

Rain didn't want to think about it, but reason told her that this matter couldn't be unrelated to Xavier.

Rain took a cab, trying to get back home as fast as she could. Reaching her home, she ran upstairs rapidly and pushed open the door. She was panting heavily. All her questions, all her anger and all her sadness were frozen in her heart. She could not open her mouth.

The airy room was very quiet. Only the wind chimes that were hung in front of the window, were ringing in the breeze of the summer afternoon.

No one was there.
