The Other Side（1）

For the first time, Rain did something that broke the rules since she became a doctor. She performed an illegal surgery.

It was gunshot wounds that Xavier suffered, and he passed out after saying that Rain was a fool. Rain called her closest colleague to come and help send Xavier back to her home. Before that, she stopped Xavier from bleeding out and used a jacket to cover his body. For some reason, she couldn't take him to the hospital.

According to the rules, patients with gunshot wounds must be registered and the police would come to the hospital to check them out. Considering Xavier's background, Rain couldn't send him to the hospital.

The operation took more than an hour. During the process, Rain had to be the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and the nurse at the same time. Fortunately, this kind of wound wasn't very hard to deal with, and Xavier was lucky that the bullet was embedded in the cavity of his lung. If the bullet had shifted a little, he would have suffered a pneumothorax and died for sure.

When the surgery ended, Rain was sweaty, not only because she was tired and nervous but also because she was highly concentrated on the operation. In fact, performing an illegal surgery was against her principles. She should have called the police, but she couldn't do that to Xavier.

Rain thought, "I'm just reciprocating his favor. That's all." She ignored the odd feeling inside her heart and packed up the surgical instruments she used while Xavier was sleeping heavily. Rain's room wasn't as luxurious as Xavier's in the cottage. The bed in his room was large enough for four people to sleep on. As Xavier lay in Rain's single bed, his big body almost took up all the space. Rain walked to the wall and pushed open the window. The sunset was indeed a stunning spectacle.

The entire day passed.

The heat was unbearable. Although Xavier was motionless in the room, his presence couldn't be neglected. The ceiling fan from up above was turning uninterruptedly, and Rain felt a bit dizzy after looking at it for a long time. She threw a blanket on the floor and lay on it. The heat seemed to be coming through the doors and windows in all directions. Rain felt like she was burning.

She could barely fall asleep. After tossing and turning on the floor for a while, Rain finally got up to see how Xavier was doing. Unexpectedly, her neck was strangled by Xavier just when she got close to him. She could hardly breathe. In the darkness, his eyes suddenly opened.

Xavier's eyes, facial expressions, and movements were all horrid to Rain. At that moment, she felt the man in front of her was like a demon coming from hell, who would destroy everything he could touch. After a while, his grip on her neck loosened slowly, and his eyes weren't that terrifying anymore. The big hand that was pinching her neck started to caress her, slip down her neck gently, and sweep over her soft breasts. Then, Xavier let go of Rain, leisurely lay on his back, and looked at her.

Rain didn't move as if she was stuck. Xavier had his eyes fixed on her for a long time and suddenly opened his mouth, "Rainy, you are much more conscientious than I thought you would be."

Xavier turned to normal and looked the same as before. Although Rain was still a little scared of him, she was relieved to see him like this and nodded. "It seems that you're fine now since you can joke with me."

"I haven't made out with you yet. How can I die?"

Xavier replied with ease, trying to brace himself to get up. His wound was pulled, which made his face pale quickly in pain. However, he kept smiling. "I didn't know that you were such a good doctor, Rainy."

"Huh?" Rain stood up straight, looked at Xavier from a high position, and raised her eyebrows. "I remember someone telling me that he can't perform sexually. Perhaps you can only make out in your dream."

A low laugh escaped Xavier as he fixed his eyes on Rain. "How come I didn't realize that you were a cat with sharp claws? Was your obedience before just a cover?"

Rain turned around and decided to ignore Xavier's words. Who knew what he actually did? He almost died a moment ago, but now he was already able to make jokes with her. Rain held the kettle and poured herself a glass of water. Her hand couldn't help but shake at the thought of her palm full of blood at that time. If she hadn't accidentally seen Xavier, followed him, and met with him in the bathroom, would he have been dead?

"But there are two reasons why you can't perform sexually. If you have physical disabilities, nobody can help you with that. If you have mental problems, there is a chance that your disease can be cured. Some people are able to regain their ability to have sex in certain circumstances. Considering what a freak you are, you will be most excited when your life is at risk. Is my diagnosis correct?"

Rain quickly said some irrelevant words to cover up her anxiety. When she turned around, she was shocked. Xavier struggled to stand behind her and fell towards her the moment she turned back.

Rain subconsciously held Xavier and felt something warm around her waist. She was pulled into his arms, and he buried his head in her neck. "Don't be afraid. I'm still alive."

Rain was silent. Xavier saw through her and noticed her uneasiness without effort. Seeing that she was silent, Xavier stepped back a bit to look at her. "I won't die that easily."

"It's hard to say that if you don't recuperate properly," said Rain.

She pushed Xavier away, looked at his pale face, and then went forward to hold him for she couldn't bear to see him like this. He looked down at her and smiled sweetly. "Rainy, you're such a nice person."

"What do you want to do?" asked Rain.
