"Are these three individuals sane? They look incredibly filthy. Look at that woman donning a street cleaner's uniform and a straw hat. Good heavens, isn't this an exclusive store for renowned international brands?"
A wealthy woman sneered coldly as she looked up while choosing her clothes. She carried a designer bag.
"I apologize, Madam. I will have them removed at once!"
The beautiful sales assistant beside her immediately replied with a smile. She then turned to instruct another salesperson.
"Go, take them out of here. Don't let them diminish the class standards of our store!"
The salesperson quickly strode in her high heels toward the trio that made up Fane's group.
"Hello. Are you here to purchase clothes? We are an exclusive shop. Our products are imported and of the highest quality..."
This sales assistant was experienced. She was confident that by adopting this demeanor, these impoverished individuals would realize they were out of place and quietly leave of their own accord.
However, this time she was clearly mistaken.
Fane looked around and said, "High quality is exactly what I am looking for. I want to buy some classy outfits for my mother and wife. I will accept nothing less than the best!"
"What?!"
The sales assistant was stunned. "Sir, are you certain?"
Fane glanced at Salena standing beside him. "My wife is tremendously beautiful and elegant. Shouldn't she wear something befitting her grace?"
"Heh, of course. It's just that I'm concerned you might face payment issues later!" The salesperson chuckled.
If it were not to maintain the store's image, she would have straightforwardly scolded him. How could these impoverished folk be confident in affording their merchandise?
"What issues?"
Fane was not perturbed. He immediately pointed to a dress and remarked, "Salena, that dress looks lovely. I think it will suit you!"
"It's okay. I'm not particularly fond of that color. Fane, I think we should leave!"
Salena was feeling uneasy. She used to shop at stores like this before marriage.
Now, however, she felt rather constrained.
"You don't like this color? That is an excellent reason!"
Unexpectedly, the wealthy woman approached them, scoffing,
"Just admit you can't afford it. What's the use of following the latest trends? What's the point of maintaining appearances if you're poor? Only rich people deserve to preserve their image!"
"Poor? On what basis do you assess our situation?"
Fane was irritated. He didn't mind others slandering him. But the insult was directed at Salena, and he couldn't accept that.
"Where else?"
Seeing Fane daring to retort, she quickly took up her side of the confrontation.
"Almost everywhere. How could a street sweeper and two poorly dressed people afford clothes here? Just look for yourself. This dress alone costs tens of thousands. Can you see that?"
"What! T-t-tens of thousands?"
Joan was shocked and genuinely astonished. She knew the attire must be expensive, but she thought at most it would be a couple of thousand dollars. She never imagined reaching tens of thousands.
"Fane, why don't we just forget about these clothes? We can look somewhere else!"
Joan gazed at Fane with a pleading look.
"Ma'am, don't worry about it. The clothes here are for young people, so I'll choose for Salena first. Later, I will help you pick some clothes in a different shop!"
Facing his mother, Fane's expression was much more tender.
"This one. Salena, Try it on!"
Fane selected an outfit he liked and handed it to Salena.
"Do you really want me to try it?"
Salena frowned. Women love to look beautiful, so naturally, she wanted to wear the dress as well.
However, the current situation was not as before. She was no longer the beautiful director she used to be or the eldest Miss Taylor.
Even if Fane had the over $200,000 from his prize, it was all obtained by risking his life.
She didn't want to squander Fane's hard-earned money in this manner.
"Come on, try it. What are you afraid of?!"
Fane nudged Salena towards the fitting room.
"Wait a moment. Look, she's covered in dirt; what if she stains our clothing? I'm afraid we won't be able to sell it again!" the beautiful sales assistant complained angrily as her expression darkened.
"If you continue to spout nonsense, I'm going to hit you,"
Fane looked at her sharply.
The intimidating aura caused the woman to flinch and step back.
"Aren't we allowed to try on clothes before buying? What's the use of having a fitting room?"
Fane countered coolly. He then escorted Salena to the changing room.
Salena looked at Fane. To her, this all seemed like a dream. The current Fane was entirely different from before.
'Is this the same delivery boy from five years ago who was willing to marry me and register to go to war in place of Ivan for a million dollars for his mother's treatment?'
At the moment, Fane appeared very brave and dominant.
She smiled and quickly changed clothes, then stepped out of the fitting room.
"Salena, you look stunning in this dress. It's truly amazing!"
Joan looked at her daughter-in-law, her eyes sparkling. "Even if it's ten thousand dollars, let's buy it. For years, my Fane has never bought you anything. This is something he ought to have bought for you. If it weren't for our financial shortcoming, it wouldn't matter if you wanted ten dresses like this!"
"It's very beautiful, but I think it's a bit too expensive!" Salena furrowed her brows.
Though she didn't want to part with the dress, she still offered her opinion.
"Why don't we look around a bit more? There are plenty of shops we haven't visited!"
"Just buy it if you think it looks good. Money is not an issue!"
Meanwhile, Fane handed her two more dresses. "Both of these look nice. Try them on!"
"Hold on. You can't try these dresses!" The beautiful sales assistant swiftly snatched one dress from him. "Sir, this is a limited edition dress. It's the only one of its kind in the entire country. This dress is very expensive, priced over $100,000! It's our most costly item in the store, so..."
Slap!
Before she could finish her sentence, Fane had slapped her.
"What did I say earlier? Have you forgotten? I told you that I would hit you if you kept spewing nonsense!"
The beautiful sales assistant felt close to a stroke. Who was this man? So uncivilized. He actually dared to hit her.
The sales assistant looked pitiful, on the verge of tears.
"You lowlife scum. You really dare, don't you? A poor man like you still dares to be impudent? Now you've even struck someone. Someone poor like you shouldn't be in stores like this! You say you're rich, huh? Sure, we'll see about that. If you can't afford it later on, I, Mrs. Karen, won't let you leave this store!"
Mrs. Karen was harsh and loquacious. After delivering her speech, she pulled out her iPhone and made a call. "Old Roger, bring some people to the southern store on the second floor. I'm being bullied. There's a poor and audacious man standing right in front of me!"
"Fane, what are you doing?"
Watching the whole scene, Salena frowned and said anxiously, "I think we should leave. I don't want to try it!"
"They have belittled us and uttered nonsense. If I don't teach them a lesson, they will never learn!"
Therefore, Fane took both dresses. "It doesn't matter if you don't want to try them on. Wrap up these dresses. I reckon the size is nearly right for you!"
"Then I might as well try them!"
Salena felt helpless. The dress was so expensive it would be a considerable loss if they bought it and it turned out to be the wrong size.
Moreover, given Fane's behavior, the purchase of the dress seemed inescapable.
Before Salena finished trying on the other two dresses, several suit-clad guards stood in front of the door. Mrs. Karen also stood near the door, sneering at Fane.
"Mrs. Karen, is that the pauper? Heh, don't worry. I'm used to dealing with foolish, poor, and insolent types like this. I'll let him know what cruelty means."
