Mending Bonds

The next day we got ready for scuba diving. My instructor was Mr.John. He helped me wear my gear and we were ready to go. At the same time, Vayu was with his instructor Mr.Josh. As typical, they both were laughing and became best of friends in seconds. "Seriously, where does he get that energy?" I murmured. "You don't talk much eh little lass?" John asked. "Umm... " I gave an awkward smile and we began diving.

Diving was amazing in Thailand but the Maldives was on a whole different level. Turtles swam along with me, saw a lionfish, blacktip reef sharks were swimming along. The coral was super colorful and the fishes were vibrant in color.

After we were done, I waited for Vayu to come. When he arrived I saw him limping and breathing heavily. "What happened?!" I shouted. "It's okay a coral stang me, I'll be fine!" He came towards me patted my head and walked ahead.

Mr.Josh said he accidentally got pierced by a sea urchin and it was not a big deal. As I saw his wound I saw blood oozing out through pore-like cuts on his feet. I could also see rashes from the sting of a coral. "Wait. I'll take care of it." I exclaimed. I brought my first aid kit and applied a bandage to his wound. I then applied lemon to his rashes and he felt immensely relieved.

"Thank you so much Maahi!" He said. "No problem," I smiled. "You're smiling for the first time in front of me. Are you happy that I'm hurt this much?" He smirked. "Shut up, I was just being nice for once." He smiled. But this time his smile was so bright my eyes could burn looking at him.

I looked away to prevent any heart attack I could get from seeing his face.

The entire evening I spent working on my assignment. My parents were having business meetings and were busy. Before heading to bed Vayu knocked at my door. "Hey Maahi, Kavya, and Jeev are on a video call come and talk to them." I came out and sat next to Vayu. This time I felt less uncomfortable sitting next to him, but I avoid looking at his face to prevent suffering from any hypertensive crisis.

After talking to them I got up to go to my room. He suddenly grabbed my wrist," Maahi it's difficult for me to walk help me out." "Just ask the staff members to help you, I'm busy good nig-" He suddenly pulled me towards him. "Let's talk." I looked away. "What's the matter?" He asked confused.

"you're too close..." "I can't hear you," "YOU'RE TOO CLOSE BACK OFF," I pushed him aside and sat down. "Hey, do you still hate me?" He asked. "I never hated you what are you talking about? You're just annoying when you tease me otherwise I think you're a nice guy."Liar." He placed his fingers on my chin and turned my head towards his face. My mind went blank. His face had clear skin, his green-blue eyes sparkled, and his lips looked soft. He could literally be a high-end model if he tried, it's a waste he was interested in weapon engineering.

Suddenly his phone rang and I jumped. How was I so close to him? How embarrassing.

He picked up the call and answered, "hi babe, what's up? Oh I'm sorry, I was so lost in wondering what to speak about when I'll call you, that I totally forgot!" He started giggling and chatted a bit.

I stood there awkwardly and waited for him to cut the call. " You've got a girlfriend Vayu?" "Nah she's just someone who I hang out with. I call almost all girls who are my friends' babe."

I got upset for some strange reason. Was it because I felt bad for the girls who were getting played by him? Was it because he didn't consider me a friend and doesn't call me babe? NO WAY, THAT WOULD BE TOTALLY CRINGE. So why did I feel a bit disappointed?

"Anywayss Maahi, what I wanted to say is please don't hate me. Let me be your friend." "Sure, no problem." I decided to settle our differences and stop showing any resentment towards him. He was a completely different person from a different background. I can never be as casual as he is. There was no point competing at this point. I've made many friends in the past who were only obsessed with my wealthy background, what harm could possibly one more do?

I left to enter my room, "DON'T CALL ME BABE THOUGH." I glared until he agreed. I entered my room and went to sleep. I felt relieved from the grudge I had against him.

The next few days passed like a breeze. Making sandcastles, snorkeling, playing table tennis in the gym room, roaming around the streets was amazing.
