Trip to the Maldives

"I will sit next to mom and not next to Vayu!" I shouted. "Maahi, it's my anniversary with my wife I will sit next to your mother," Dad argued. Mom smiled and enjoyed the attention and I could totally tell Vayu was embarrassed by us.

"Okay while coming back from the Maldives I'll let you sit with me." Mom gave a suggestion. More like her word was God's command.

Vayu sat down pulled out his earphones. I guess if he was listening to music, I could probably make it through this trip. I sat down and took out my notes from my bag. I still felt awkward around Vayu especially after the laundry room incident and making eye contact was difficult.

After half an hour I took a break. I felt sleepy but I did not dare close my eyes for I was scared of the cliche in which a heroine accidentally sleeps on a hero's shoulder and romance blooms.If I did not have any petty feelings, we could've been something but now, the idea of romance budding between us is impossible.

I was struggling to fight my sleep so I decided to hear my music as well. As I plugged my earphones, Vayu swatted my hands. "Hey! That hurts!" He then took out one of his earbuds and shoved it in my ear.  "Which singer is this?" I asked completely forgetting about him casually touching me.

" Chase Atlantic, pretty popular nowadays, you like these kinds of singers don't you?" He smiled.

He smiled alot which always felt uncomfortable. My mom taught me as a child to smile often, but I never could manage to smile in every situation. Reading emotions on my face was extremely easy.

"Actually I can listen to anything. I hear everything from English to French, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Punjab-" suddenly loud music started banging my ears. I threw the earbud from me and jumped, " you jerk! I hate metal what the hell-" "Shhhhhhhh," he placed his index finger near my lips and silenced me. He started giggling. AGAIN HE INVADED MY PERSONAL SPACE. I jumped from my seat, "I'm going to the washroom," and left.

After wasting 5 minutes somehow by controlling my heartbeat, I got out. When I sat Vayu whispered in my ear, " still feeling sleepy?" Again I jumped. He started to giggle again. Was he finding this funny? I kicked his leg and continued studying.

"Aunty! My leg hurts!" He complained I freaked out. My mom couldn't hear him clearly and asked him to repeat. I covered his mouth with my palm. "Maahi put your hands down and let me listen to Vayu!" Vayu grabbed my hand and placed it down. "Nothing aunty, just a little joke." He started giggling again.

I was furious. "Vayu stop being annoying. I'm studying." He frowned and sat back. He then closed his eyes. After another half an hour I could see him shivering. Mom told me to so I pulled out my jacket from my bag, covered him, and continued working.

He suddenly slumped his head which then rested on my shoulder. I freaked out. Was this another prank? Is he trying to film 'Enemies Turned Lovers'? I decided to push his head away but I could see mom glaring at me. I decided to let it slide.

When we finally reached, he got up as if nothing had ever happened. Nor did he apologize. I grumbled to myself of what an asshole he's been and snatched my jacket away from him. "Your jacket smells nice," he smiled. "Shut up creep," I retorted. His face came closer to my neck, " but you definitely smell even better." I was creeped out, "can you please stop it and GO your highness?" I asked. He giggled and gathered his belongings and went ahead.

The Maldives was beautiful. The beach was gorgeous and so was the hotel. "You guys can go ahead and check out the facility," my dad said. "Let's go on a little date, princess." Vayu brought his hand forward expecting me to hold his. I ignored him and walked off ahead.

After dinner, mom and dad decided to spend some time alone for themselves as it was their anniversary. The beach water was glowing from the dinoflagellates which was fascinating. I was clicking pictures and sending them on my friends WhatsApp group. We did a video call.

My best friend Sally got excited, "I'm so jealous of you Maahi! Take me with you."

"Forget about that Sally, you're on a beach, there must be some hot dude out there," Kim said.

"Dude, men are a pain in the *** tell me, are you going scuba diving?" Yaasvi asked.

"Woah guys too many questions. First of all, there were a lot of hot dudes, second, yeah I'll be doing scuba diving and third, Sally I TOLD YOU TO COME ALONG GIRL!"

"Bruh my parents are so darn strict urghhh," she complained.

"Who's calling? Kavya?" Vayu asked from behind.

"OH MY GOD, I JUST HEARD SOME SEXY VOICE WHO'S THERE?!" Kim started shouting. "Oh it's your friends, Hi girls!" "Vayu mind your own business go away-" "NO SHOW ME HIS FACE!" Kim started screaming. "He's an asshole Kim, he-" Suddenly Vayu grabbed my wrist and showed his face, "inlove ladies~~?" Silence followed.

Suddenly the group call went berserk "I'm taking a screenshot OMG!"(Sally)

"I already did"(Yaasvi)

"No way send it to me!"(Kim)

 Vayu jumped away, "bad idea... Never gonna do this again."

"Maahi, you sly fox, hanging out with this dude, you've got yourself a walking date!" "Shut up Kim, he's not my type. ANYWAYS I'M CUTTING THE CALL, GOT SOME ASSIGNMENTS TO DO." "Oh yea, **** I haven't started mine either urggghh. BYE"

Vayu laid on a hammock and I left to head towards my room. "Good night Maahi," he said. I went ahead to my room. I had no obligation to be nice to him the way he treated me throughout the day.

God, I'm so tired of him already, I knew I should've stayed home. I then fell asleep shortly afterwards.
