As soon as she arrives home, she bathes the kids and then they sit down for dinner. Afterward, they watch some TV while she cleans up the kitchen. Having tidied everything, she takes them upstairs. They brush their teeth, she puts them to bed, then she heads to her bedroom, takes a shower, slips into her pajamas, and goes to her closet to look for some school papers.
Kilam stays at his office late into the night, leaving when only the security guards are left in the building. He walks to the parking garage, gets into his car, and stops by a fast-food restaurant. He places an order to go, picks it up as soon as it's ready, and drives to his enormous house. In the kitchen, he eats his meal, afterward heading to his bedroom to pick out just a pair of black sweatpants. He undresses, revealing his muscular body before stepping into the hot shower. After his shower, he lounges in the living room watching TV, but his mind keeps wandering to Arya.
"She's an extraordinary woman. Anyone else would have given in right there, as soon as I cornered her against the door, but not her. She scolded me and stormed out, making me apologize."
He moves to the mini-bar in the living room and pours himself a glass of whiskey. After turning off the TV, he puts on some music, lies on the couch, and spends a few minutes just staring at the ceiling, contemplating his fetching personal assistant. Meanwhile, Arya, after looking for the documents, lies down but is far from sleep. She closes her eyes and feels a small body snuggle up next to her.
"Mama, I had a nightmare," whispers little Mia, her voice tinged with tears.
"There, my love, Mama's here," Arya comforts her, cradling the child in her arms.
"Mama, I really want to see Daddy. My friends at school said that Daddy left because he never loved me and Kai," says the child, her voice sad and wistful.
"That's not true, princess. The truth is just that your father hasn't been able to meet you yet, but as soon as he learns he has two beautiful children, he will come running and be overjoyed to get to know you," Arya replies, her eyes watering and her voice choked with the tears she fights to hold back.
"In my nightmare, Daddy yelled and hit me and Kai. We called for you, but you didn't come. Then he locked us in a dark room full of cockroaches and said he didn't love us, that's why he left, and then I woke up," the sleepy voice of the little girl causes her mother's heart to ache more than usual.
Once Mia falls asleep, Arya lets the tears she had been holding back fall. She has no better explanation for a six-year-old, how could she explain that even she doesn't know who their father is. Arya feels utterly powerless and miserable, guilty for subjecting the most precious beings in her life to such humiliation and sadness. It's solely her fault, her selfishness for wanting them without considering the consequences for these innocent children who didn't ask to come into this world.
She rises cautiously, so as not to awaken Mia, and walks to the balcony of her room for some fresh air and to straighten out her thoughts and emotions. Sitting in the armchair, she admires the sky until an unfamiliar car parks in front of her house and stays put for a long time, but no one gets out. Then she decides to go back inside to try to sleep since her day tomorrow will be busy; she has several meetings to attend on behalf of Kilam as he will be at other more important ones.
Unable to sleep, Kilam gets up, throws on a shirt, and goes to the garage. He randomly picks a car from his collection and drives off aimlessly. Before he knows it, he finds himself parked in front of Arya's house, where she sits on the balcony, the only light on.
"My God! What am I doing here? I should call Lisa; she's my fiancee, and it's at her place I should be, not here," he mutters to himself, yet he remains still, unable to take his eyes off the woman admiring the night sky. After a while, she goes inside, but he lingers. A few minutes later, with great reluctance, he calls his fiancee, telling her to come over to his place. After hanging up, he starts the car and heads home. Upon arrival, he finds Lisa waiting outside. They go in, but Kilam remains silent.
"Seriously, love? You call me over and say nothing? I thought you missed me, but you drag me out of bed at two in the morning for this silence," the woman complains.
"If you don't want to stay, then leave! To be honest, I already regret calling you. I'm going to my room. It seems I am tired after all, and I have a busy day tomorrow. Stay if you like, go if you prefer - do what you think is best, just don't bother me," he says and walks away, leaving her alone in the living room.
