Capital? Sam asked, a little confused and surprised.
– Yes. Have you been?
- Yea.
- And what did you think? – Alex asked, curious.
– It's beautiful.
- And people?
– Some are good. – Sam replied tensely.
- Some?
- Yea.
- Why?
– Alex.
- Hi?
– Don't ask me hard questions.
Alex was silent as he thought. After all, these are not difficult questions.
– Don't look at me badly. It must be different for you, but I think most people who don't live in the capital think the same. People in the capital are generally not very open to talking to people who don't belong there. - Sam said breaking the silence.
– Have you ever been to a village? – Sam asked seriously.
- I do not eat and?
– Different from the capital.
Alex understood what Sam meant, even if she chose to use nicer words. Even though he had never been to one, he was not an idiot, he understood that if the capital is beautiful and has great living conditions, outside the capital it is not like that.
- And I? Alex asked.
- You what?
– Am I like the other residents of the capital?
Sam was a little surprised, for a moment she didn't know how to respond, even though the answer was obvious. Alex was different from a standard resident of the capital. Maybe he wasn't as rich as most of the residents, maybe he was just a normal worker in the capital, even if that's no small feat.
She felt the need to explain. The way Alex asked sounded like he was maybe a little upset. And he really wasn't like the people of the capital. Even though she didn't know him that well, she'd also never talked to a person from the capital that much. Most couldn't bear the thought of talking to people like her, normal people.
- Forgets. You don't have to answer me. - Alex said, with a crooked smile that he seemed to struggle to give.
- You are not. - Said Sam. - You are different. – She said, not knowing where to put her hands for the embarrassment that was in the air.
The silence was once again present in the place, leaving Sam feeling even more awkward. The fact that no one said anything reminded Sam of something, the scent that came from the blood of the boy next to her.
– Alex. Sam called, still deciding whether or not to ask. Getting a "what?" look from Alex, she decided to take a chance.
– Why does your blood smell like that?
That question apparently made the boy more tense than ever.
– What smell? Alex asked.
– What comes from your blood. Blood doesn't normally have that kind of smell.
The boy was silent again, as if thinking about something. Which lasted a few minutes before something came out of his mouth.
– It's just a family thing. You must know, some people have different blood. Mine isn't very special, but it has a very low percentage of that blood. I must have some distant ancestor with that blood type.
Sam didn't quite believe what Alex said, but she didn't know him very well, and he'd decided to withhold information, so she wasn't the one trying to find out something he wasn't willing to say.
– I'll go after some twigs and leaves. It's close, I'll be right back. – Sam said and got up to leave.
She was really starting to get worried about the flashlight battery, which miraculously still worked. But she didn't know how long it would last.
She didn't have to walk far to find some dry twigs and leaves for the fire. In fact, she wasn't willing to go very far, after all, she had a nearly blind man waiting for her to return.
She bent down and picked up a good amount of materials that were enough for a fire that could last for a few hours. It didn't take long for her to return to her makeshift camp.
– Do you know how to make fire? Alex asked.
- Sure.
- Like?
- So. - Sam replied, taking a lighter from his bag and lighting the fire.
Alex was suddenly in a defensive position, as if he'd seen something from another world.
- What's it? – asked Sam.
- What is it? – Alex asked while pointing to the object in Sam's hand.
- That? It's a lighter.
– Why does fire come out of him?
– Because I'm a witch. - Said Sam, while letting out an evil laugh.
- You what? - Alex said, getting terrified and looking like he could attack at any moment.
- Calm down, it's a joke. If I were a witch I wouldn't need to use equipment like a lighter. – Sam said laughing.
In fact, Sam couldn't say for sure how the lighter works. Chad explained, but so much time had passed that she'd already forgotten.
– A friend of mine did the same with the bomb. - Said Sam.
- A friend? Alex asked.
Sam nodded in agreement. Chad is a very smart person, he has already made numerous outfits for her. Of course, some didn't work very well and ended up exploding or breaking down before they had the opportunity to explode. But she always agreed to test the instruments that her friend made, after all, some were good, as in the case of the pump and the lighter.
– Is he an inventor? Alex asked.
– Yes, I think we can say that he is. – Sam replied.
Inventors are reputed to be a little crazy, the image that most people have of them is precisely the image of an old person, who doesn't comb his hair and lives secluded in a room. It's almost an image of someone who lives in a cave with no contact with humans. Which is not the case for Chad.
Alex seemed excited by the news that Sam had an inventor friend, and one who could do very useful things. Which didn't sound like a good idea to Sam, as Alex wouldn't be able to meet Chad. Chad would argue with her for an entire year about how she shouldn't trust strangers.
– Could I meet him? Alex asked, to Sam's near despair.
– I don't know if he's in the village. – Sam replied, which isn't a lie, since Chad usually went out hunting something or selling some instrument he made that didn't attract so much attention.
– Alex, why don't you try to get some sleep? Normally resting makes people recover faster. - Said Sam.
- Same?
– Yes. I'll keep an eye out, so you'll be safe, just sleep. – Sam replied, wishing that Alex would sleep and not ask more questions.
Much to Sam's delight, Alex nodded and then closed his eyes. It didn't take long and he appeared to be sleeping. As for Sam, she didn't sleep, she wasn't even sleepy.
