Chapter 5:💙

His bad premonition came true.

After that evening, Vyfelle further changed.

If back then she was just cold, now she was distancing herself. She stopped talking to him unless it's truly necessary.

Most of the times, she doesn't even eat together with them, and she was always busy somewhere else.

Today, a banquet was to be held at the Ascendere Academy in honor for the young masters who would soon ascend to another level.

Everyone from the upper echelons of the society would surely come to this banquet. Not only to flaunt their power but also to gain connections via intermarriages and deals.

And as one of three dominant powers, Serkien Sovraien have to be present on today's occasion.

"Sire, I have brought out your desired cuff link." Gnos, his old butler said as he showed him a pair of sapphire cuff links.

He glanced at it before taking them from Gnos.

"Where's Vy?" He asked Gnos as he was putting on them on.

"I was instructed to tell you that she has some business in the auction house and may not be able to attend the banquet. This servant was not able to discern what business she might have in the auction house, please forgive my incompetence." Gnos bowed deeply as he asked for forgiveness.

Serkien's action of straightening his tie paused for a moment upon hearing what Gnos said.

"...how about Caru?" He continued fixing his tie. (🎐Such a hard-to-fix tie that is...)

"He just went into the armory for his armor, sire." Gnos replied while straightening his body; knowing that his master doesn't like being bowed upon. "Do I arrange for his stuff to be sent to the academy, sire?"

"No need... I'll go talk to him myself." He muttered.

"I understand, sire." He heard Gnos reply behind him as he walked out.

Just as Gnos had said, he found Caru in the armory.

But instead of preparing his armor, he found him staring at the Knightess; his mother's armor.

"She last wore this in a tournament years ago. She looked so valiant then. At first, she refused to join the tournament, saying that her Knightess was to be worn only at important events. So your aunts, in an attempt to rile her up, made a gamble. Whoever wins the tournament gets to spend a night with me." At this point, Serk can't help a chuckle from escaping him, his eyes darkening as he reminisce about the past. "In the end, she had donned on her armor, rode on Furerr and—"

"My horse?" Caru wondered upon hearing his horse's name.

"En. Furerr was once your mother's horse." Serk confirmed.

"Did...did she won?" Caru can't help but ask, seeing that his father seemed to have been distracted from his story. He unsheathed the sword lying next to the armor, watching his reflection from it's cold surface.

"Of course she won." He said with a sigh. "She won and I had to spend a night with her and her grumbling."

Thinking of that one night he had to spend a night with Vy as she continuesly grumbles and complains truly made his head throb.

Caru's next words, however, seemed to pour cold water to his reminiscing.

"It's all in the past, though. The person you tell me of...I don't see her." Caru said, sheathing the sword back and walking out from the armory while carrying his own armor.

Serk stared at his son's retreating back for a moment before walking out himself; closing the armory's door behind him.

You may not know, maybe in the future, you'll see how your mother looks in her armor...
