Episode 4: A bad secret

Caroline knocked on the door, and an unfamiliar face answered it. As the door opened, she saw a handsome young man standing before her.

She looked at him in confusion as she did not recognize him.

"Oh, hello there! I believe you are Amanda's mother. Please come in." he said politely.

Caroline went inside. "My apologies, but who might you be?" she inquired.

"Oh, right! pardon me, please! My name is Ban--"

before he could finish his sentence, a familiar voice from behind interrupted him "Mother! I'm surprised you're here!" Said Amanda from behind.

"It's been such a long time since I last saw you! How have you been?" Then she said.

"Oh, I'm fine... actually, I came here to see Alexander..." Caroline responded dismally.

just as she mentioned her son, the tranquil atmosphere converted into a quite and depressing one.

Amanda quietly ushered her mother to Alexander's room while the guy excused them and went to the kitchen to make some tea for the guest.

As Caroline entered the room and saw her son laying in bed while being in such a weak and fragile state, she immediately looked away as she begun to cry.

Amanda gently placed her hand on her mother's shoulder in order to comfort her.

"..I...i'm such an irresponsible mother, aren't I?...how could I let my own child to suffer like that...!" she moaned.

"Mother, please don't say that...you did all that you could..." replied Amanda trying to comfort her.

Caroline walked up to her son who was asleep and sat beside him. She held his frail hands and gently kissed them.

Alexander's started to slowly open his eyes as he felt his mother's touch. "mo..ther..?" he mumbled.

Caroline suddenly raised her head to look at him as she heard his voice. "Alex..!" she said "Alex, you're going to be fine, okay? Mother's going to get you treated very soon!"

"But mother...the money...?" Amanda whispered.

"Yes,,,! that's exactly what I came here for! I have got the money...we can now afford his medical fees" Caroline replied in desperation as she took out the stack of money from her pocket.

Amanda's eyes widened as she saw the huge amount of cash Caroline was holding.

"W-where did u get it...?" She inquired nervously

"...I worked for it..." Caroline replied anxiously.

She did not want to tell her daughter that she got it by selling her highness's treasurable piece of gold jewelry and therefore, decided to keep it a secret.

Amanda found her mother's behavior quite suspicious however, since she was aware of the fact that how much they needed that money, she decided to ignore it.

Caroline and Amanda went out of the room to discuss about Alexander's treatment as they did not wanted to disturb him.

Amanda led her mother to the living room and briefly afterwards, the guy came up to them with tea in his hands.
