Diogo looks at Emma and quickly speaks.
Diogo: You were with Pedro last night, weren't you?
Emma: No.
Diogo: I saw you two kissing near the bathroom.
Emma: Negative, he was the one who kissed me unexpectedly.
Diogo: And you liked it.
Emma: I didn’t say that.
Diogo: In the game, you two always played off each other.
Emma: Because the other boys were already partnered up, so I didn’t want to interfere.
Diogo: I wasn’t.
Emma: It’s different.
Diogo: Why?
Emma: You're my boss; we can't have that kind of freedom, even outside the house.
Diogo: You wouldn't be with me, but you’ll be with someone without even knowing them.
Emma: I think the wine is making the nerves flare.
Diogo: Don’t change the subject.
Emma: I signed a contract, didn’t I? What did it say in the rules? You also told me not to embarrass you, so I wouldn’t dare to do anything. You're my boss, and we can’t have any kind of involvement.
Diogo: I’m with many women, and it doesn’t create a weird atmosphere. The next day, everything is fine. I don’t even know why I said that; sorry for being intense. The contract had that rule, but rules are made to be broken.
Emma: I’m not like those women, and I believe rules are meant to be followed.
Diogo: Okay.
Emma: I think I’d better go to bed.
Diogo: Let’s finish the rest of the wine, and then you can go upstairs.
Emma: Okay.
He pours more into her glass, and they continue drinking.
Diogo: Emma?
Emma: Yes?
Diogo: When you said you don’t want any man in your life, were you betrayed?
Emma: I wish it had been; it would have been much easier.
Diogo: Do you want to talk about it?
Emma: No.
Diogo: Okay.
Emma: Shall we leave? What time tomorrow?
Diogo: After lunch.
Emma: Alright.
They finish the rest of the wine in silence, lost in thought. Emma hands her glass to Diogo, and he places it on the coffee table. Emma stands up and stumbles over her own legs. Diogo quickly catches her as she begins to fall, his hands on her waist, their faces drawing close together. Emma is holding onto his neck and staring into his eyes. He gazes into hers and moves down to her lips; Emma feels a jolt throughout her body, freezing in place. Diogo seeks entry for his tongue, but she doesn’t open her mouth. He persists, and eventually, she gives in. They kiss gently, their mouths moving together as if they were alive. He adjusts her as she leans back, holding her waist and her hair. Diogo is taller than Emma, and she rises onto her toes. He pulls her closer, their bodies pressing together, and she lets out a soft moan into the kiss. He pauses and rests their foreheads together.
Emma: I... This shouldn’t have happened.
Diogo: Don’t think about the rules now; we both wanted this. I kissed you first.
Emma: Why did you do that? You always humiliate me, and now you kiss me—don’t you fear getting dirty?
Diogo: I know I can be rude sometimes. I’m sorry, okay? This kiss won’t create a weird atmosphere or cause anything. I know the rules, but it happened.
Emma: Don’t do that again; let’s forget this happened—it was a big mistake.
Diogo: What? How can you say that? I kiss you, and you say it was a mistake?
Emma: Do you want me to fall in love with you? Not everyone has that desire for you.
Diogo: I’m not talking about that. Forget it; it’s better we forget. I never should have done that.
Emma: I agree. It was just the effect of the alcohol.
She turns her back and quickly ascends the stairs. Diogo is left hating himself and throws the wine bottle to the floor. He goes to his room and takes a cold shower to calm down, lying on his bed and falling asleep. Emma, as soon as she reaches her room, lies down and reflects on what happened. Flashbacks of the kiss replay in her mind, and she wipes her mouth, her body tingling as she cries for it having happened.
