Upon arriving at the room, she sat Isadora on the bed and took off her little shoe.
Isadora: Was it Daddy?
Emma: No, my love, it was another man. Your daddy is downstairs eating cake.
Isadora: Okay.
Emma lay down with her on the bed and stroked her hair. Isadora closed her eyes and hugged Emma's waist, quickly falling asleep. Diogo entered the room.
Diogo: Why did you come up here?
Emma: Speak softly. She was sleepy, and I came to put her to bed.
He left, and she continued stroking her hair. After a few minutes, she left the room and was pulled into another room next door.
Emma: Ouch!
Diogo: Did she see?
Emma: What?
Diogo: Did she see me?
Emma: No, but she was unsure. She asked if it was you, but I said no.
Diogo: Stop calling me "sir." You didn't call me that yesterday.
Emma: Because yesterday, I wasn't working. At work, I'm professional.
Diogo: Okay, okay.
Emma: Excuse me.
Diogo: Wait.
Emma: Do you need something?
Diogo: That kiss didn't mean anything.
Emma: Okay. I don't know why you're telling me this, but alright.
She opened the door and left. He stayed in the room, wondering why he had said that, and punched the wall. He paced back and forth, and when he calmed down, he left the room and went down to the living room. Upon arriving, he saw Emma dancing with Gustavo. The dance was slow, and Gustavo's hand was slightly below her waist. They danced, talking and smiling.
Diogo grabbed a glass of whiskey and downed it in one gulp. He was alone, and Vinicius approached him.
Vinicius: Enjoying the party, son?
Diogo: Yes, Dad. Congratulations.
Vinicius: Thank you. I noticed you're nervous. What's wrong?
Diogo: Nothing, Dad. I'm calm.
Vinicius: You don't down a glass like that when you're calm. Why don't you go over there and ask her to dance?
Diogo: What are you talking about, Dad?
Vinicius: Son, I made you. I'm a man; I know how these things work. I noticed your gaze on her. You got agitated watching her dance, and when your mother mentioned introducing her to Gustavo, you tensed up.
Diogo: You're seeing things that aren't there, Dad.
Vinicius: Is that really true, son? Or are you trying to fool yourself? You know very well that she is a very beautiful woman, and you can't deny it. Intelligent, kind, a woman of many qualities. Any man would notice her just from her smile.
Diogo: Get to the point.
Vinicius: She won't be single forever. One day, a man will win her over, and she might fall in love. You know what happens when someone falls in love. They become blind with love, and it's hard to turn back.
Diogo: She doesn't want anyone right now, Dad. You heard her say she doesn't want a man in her life.
Vinicius: She's hurting over something, but a new love can heal an old wound. When the new person is better than the previous one, all doors open.
Diogo: Dad, I still say this is silly. We only know each other and we're taking care of Isadora. That's all.
Vinicius: Okay, she's kissing Gustavo.
He immediately turned around, and she was chatting with Amanda. Vinicius laughed at him, seeing that he was right.
Diogo: My boy, don't try to fool yourself. You had the proof just now. You got nervous. Come on, let's go over there.
He spoke, pulling Diogo towards Amanda. They stopped talking when they noticed them approaching, and Diogo hugged his mother.
Diogo: Congratulations, Mom.
Amanda: I want to see you like this one day.
Diogo: Well, give up. I'm never getting married again.
Amanda: Don't say that. Just because it didn't work out once doesn't mean it can't work out a second time.
Diogo: It's over.
Vinicius: It seems you don't know the stubborn son you have.
Amanda: But I try to put some sense into that hard head of his.
Vinicius: Are you enjoying yourself, Emma?
Emma: Yes, everything is beautiful.
Vinicius: I saw you were emotional. Do you hope to experience this moment one day?
Emma: Yes, but many years from now.
Amanda: You two are so stubborn. At your age, I was already married.
Emma: I thought that once too. Life takes us down different paths without us understanding.
Amanda: That's true, dear. But your time will come.
Emma: Yes.
Vinicius: Go dance. This song is beautiful. You're young, and you have to enjoy yourselves.
Diogo: I'm good, Dad.
Emma: I'm going to check if Isadora is awake.
Vinicius: No way. She's still sleeping, and you, son, are doing nothing but drinking. Stop being silly and go dance!
He spoke, joining their hands. Diogo, knowing that he wouldn't give up, took her hand and pulled her to dance. She moved away slightly and touched his shoulder. They danced as if they didn't want to, and Vinicius and Amanda danced as well, ending up pushing Emma closer to Diogo. He took a deep breath, and she tried to move away a little, but he wouldn't let her. She smelled his strong, woody perfume, and her body tingled. She felt awkward and uncomfortable. They danced, and the music seemed to go on forever.
Diogo: I don't bite.
Emma: I know.
Diogo: It's no use trying to get away. It's better to dance like this because they'll just push us again.
She remained silent, and the music finally ended. As soon as they let go, she left and went upstairs. She entered Isadora's room, and she was still sleeping. Emma went to the bathroom and took a deep breath. She was suffocated and didn't understand the cold sweat. She wet her arms and relaxed a little.
She left Isadora's room and went to her own. She lay down on the bed and closed her eyes, trying to relax her mind. She ended up falling asleep and stayed there.
