Aria in bed and Oliver ordering her to wake up. She slowly opens her eyes. She’s in the hospital. A room similar to the one Emma is in. Aria sits up, which hurts. Understandable because of being in a car accident. Oliver pulls out his phone and tells her to write what it says down:
..."When the creditor dies, debt disappears. There are only two ways."...
Clever, Oliver.
Aria looks at the phone and asks, “What is this?” Coldly, Oliver declares that there’s no time. He repeats his order and tells her to hurry. Aria complies. Aria translates what she’s writing for us: If the creditor dies, the debt must disappear. There is no other way than this...
Once she’s done, Oliver takes the paper and stuffs it in the ****** pocket of his suit jacket. He tells her to listen carefully. Her name is no longer Aria but Emma. She was at her fiancé's house and she fell into the swimming pool. From that shock, she’ll be diagnosed with memory loss. Aria asks if she has memory loss. Almost sneering at her, he tells her that she’s going to *act* like she does. Emma's parents are coming right now. When she meets them, don't say a word. Just be still.
Aria asks what happened to the other people. What about Emma? Oliver orders her not to worry about those things. He leans in closer. His tone is almost down-right sinister. In fact, don't think at all. From now on, he’ll think of her. That’s never good. She just has to do as he says. Does she understand? Aria takes in what he’s said. Strongly, Oliver repeats that he said ‘do you understand?’ She nods.
There’s a knock at the door. He pushes her to lie back on the bed. The door slides open. We don’t see who it is. Aria looks toward the door. Oliver bows to whoever is entering. Which makes me think that it’s not Charlie but Emma's parents.
Flashback of the struggle. Charlie shoves Emma to the ground and strangles her with her purse. So how did she end up in the pool? She shoves him off and starts to walk away, but the drug takes effect and she falls into the pool.
It’s night and Charlie is staring out at the pool. He shakes his head. There's no way... that makes no sense. Why would he...? Keep thinking like that. I don’t think you did it. But who did? And why would your mind make you think you did it? Riley arrives, carrying a glass of wine. She’s still in the same clothes, so this must be the same day. She gets his attention and walks over to him. He puts both of his hands in his pockets and looks out at the pool. Almost like he’s putting up his defenses.
Riley tells him that there’s no need to pretend that he’s okay. It'd be strange if he was. He chuckles. She offers him the wine and asks if he wants one. When you're anxious, intoxication is a pretty good method. He turns to her and asks what she wants to say. She’s not being adversarial, but he’s responding to her like one. I wonder why. Based on her comment to Oliver about taking over the company, Charlie thinks she’s out to get him. I wonder why. His hardness hardens her tone and expression. She says that Emma almost died. Another accident like that could happen again.
Her expression softens again. She’s saying this as his noona. This marriage... Don't go through with it. Her eyes look a little glassy. Are those real tears? Is she saying this as his noona or a jealous wife? Charlie drops his head and then sets his chin. It’s obvious that this is painful for him… the thought that it might be his fault. He tells her ‘no’ and says that he knows what she’s worried about. How far up in the business he could go, holding Emma's hand. Wow, even now, he’s on the defense. Poor Charlie. That father would accept him and include him in his will. That's why she’s worried.
Riley doesn’t even deny it. So he’s right to be on the defensive. Riley asks if he’s saying he’s going through with the marriage. With the person he almost killed? Charlie replies that Emma herself will say who almost killed her. He was just about to go and find out. He starts to walk away. Riley calls after him that if he really did it, is he going to stop then? Dispassionately – I keep using this word, but I can’t think of any other way to describe the detached way of talking that they get – he raises his eyebrow and replies that even if that were the case, nothing would change because he could compensate her. Since it is all about the money, right? Wow. Poor guy. Doing this to get fully acknowledged and be included in Dad’s will. He walks away.
Aria is lying in bed. Emma’s parents are talking to her. She isn’t saying anything. E.Dad's secretary enters and tells him that they have to leave now if he wants to catch his flight to the States. Why’s a Congressman going to the US? E.Dad tells Aria that she will receive treatment from the nation's best doctors. From the bottom of her feet to every single hair on her head, they will check to see if everything is okay, so all she needs to do is rest. She nods. E.Mom says that she’ll call. They leave.
Oliver snarks that it’s such a relief, that she has such a capable father. He grabs some clothes out of the closet and tosses them on the bed. He orders her to get ready to leave. They have no time. Hurry!
As Emma’s parents drive away – and what I find interesting is they have a driver and a secretary. Most times, the secretary is the driver – E.Dad says that something’s wrong. The way Emma looked at him... it felt foreign, like a completely different person. E.Mom tells him that of course it would seem like that. When was the last time he talked to Emma for more than 10 minutes? With this opportunity, they can help Emma forget all the bad memories and be left with just the good ones. That’s never good, trying to rewrite the past. E.Dad thanks her and says that Emma's mother in Heaven is probably also thankful. So Emma’s mother is dead? Or just left.
Back in the hospital room, Aria has gotten dressed. Did Oliver step out or did she have to change her clothes with him in the room? Minion enters with a gurney. Oliver tells Aria that someone will emerge. No matter what happens, she must not scream. If she screams, people will come. Aria slowly turns around. Oliver nods for Minion to act. They did not just stuff Emma under the bed. They did not just stuff Emma under the bed… They did. I can’t believe they stuffed her under the bed. She looks really pale. Is she dead?
