Cheating and Secrets

Finishing the breakfast both Daniel and Connor went to the bathrooms on separate floors. Evan took a breath of relief; there was this uncomfortable awkwardness between him and Connor that he can't describe. He can't deny that he is attracted to him but this makes the whole situation even more complicated considering he is possibly the guy his boyfriend is cheating with.

Of course, Daniel was completely oblivious to everything too busy in his own thoughts. Somewhere during the breakfast, he even proposed the idea of doing it again sometime sparing a glance at Evan who didn't know how to reply.

The stealing glances went unnoticed by the happy guy but not by the other two.

Evan was still sitting on the chair near the kitchen countertop when Connor came out dressed in his last night clothe. Lost in his thoughts and oblivious to his presence Evan jerked in his seat in surprise hearing his voice so close. "So, what do you say?" he scrambled away turning towards Connor who was looking at him with an amused grin.

"You gave me a heart attack," Evan said not happy with the surprise looking annoyed "About what?" he asked moments later not understanding the context of Connor's question.

"What Daniel said earlier, about trying it again?" Connor took a seat right next to where Evan was sitting.

Evan lost for an answer didn't return back to his seat but sat on the other side of the counter. How can he even ask something like this? Evan knows that Connor feels the awkwardness between them too and what is with him acting around Evan as they are lovers.

"Don't know, can't say anything for now. This was still the first time for us so I still need to see where it goes." Evan chose a safer side even though he knows that what he said is far from the truth. Daniel obviously has done it before and playing cleverly he has included Evan too in it giving him an excuse. Evan can already imagine what Daniel will say if he confronted him about all this.

Connor smiled at some part of Evan's answer.

"You said 'I' not 'us', Daniel is not part of this?" Connor asked smugly

"Part of what?" Evan asked faking not getting where Connor was taking it.

"This 'where it goes'... though truthfully he seems too sure of happening it again." Connor clearly hinted at Daniels' earlier proposal and Evan realized that Connor isn't saying or asking something new but just spinning his words asking about the same thing again. What is he playing at?

"As I said I am not sure and for Daniel, we still need to talk about it but to flatter you last night was good and very enjoyable." There are hundreds of things to talk to Daniel but not now, he has to get rid of this nuisance first.

"I am honoured," Connor placed his hand on his heart while smiling an overly sweet smile "Though you weren't bad for yourself and to flatter you, you were definitely one of the best."

Evan felt his entire face go red with the warming up. He was about to say something in return when,

"Getting familiar?" Daniel's voice caught both their attention. He walked in smiling fasting button on his shirt cuffs. Evan swallowed his words wile Connor turned to him.

"Sure is, your wife is definitely an interesting person to converse," Connor said grinning while watching Daniel walking towards Evan and sitting beside him.

"Tell me about it; it was his this way of being him that attracted me for the very first time we met. I literally couldn't get him out of my head and kept thinking of how Evan will reply to something when talking to others."

Connor was smiling Evan noticed but there was something else. His smile wasn't reaching his eyes, it wasn't real but forced. Connor was smiling fake while his eyes were fixed on Evan with unreadable emotions.

When no reply came from Connor, Daniel continued "So, any plans for today?"

"No, not really there is just this meeting I have to attend around five otherwise I am a free bird all day," Connor said coming back from whatever thought he was in, the look was gone now.

"Cool for you, unfortunately, I do have a busy day ahead so I'll be leaving in the next few minutes. Do you need a lift to your house?" Daniel asked standing up.

"Sure" Connor replied nodding.

"Okay, I'll be down in a few get ready by then."

Connor nodded again. Daniel left the room unknown to him how his so casual conversation with some stranger didn't sit well with his wife.

The spark was there between all the dry splinters and wooden pieces hammered into his mind and these occasional gusts of winds from Daniel were doing nothing but encouraging it into a fire. Evan was uncomfortable in his own house while a stranger seemed so much more relaxed in here and talking to his husband like they had done it before many times.

Have they?

The question was stuck and just seemed to repeat itself every time Evan observes the converse between his husband and Connor.

And every time the question repeats it raises Evan's doubt of taking it all as mere imagination.

It can't be all imagination friends don't talk so casually to each other... do they? Not until they are very close and longtime friends which is neither the case here.

Very soon Daniel and Connor were out of the house and it didn't go unnoticed by Evan that how today Daniel's entire attention was on Connor such that he didn't even say goodbye or spared a glance at him while coming down the stairs, joining Connor and walking out of the house. He even forgot the morning kiss he gives when going for work.

Evan felt the pain, hurt, betrayed all at that time but...

As he felt it before it wasn't to such extent. It wasn't excruciating, depressing or at all something that wounds him leaving an impression. Evan wishes he could come to a decision but he is in a situation where being in relationship with a man who is six years older than him and clearly remembers the time when Daniel said things to him about their relation 'I understand that the difference between our age may come between us some time but I want to promise you one thing and want same in return from you that I'll never betray you, if it so ever happens that we are not working together anymore and do not feel anything for each other then we'll come clear to the other, there will be no secrets or cheating. Okay?

But yes before we come clear we need to make sure that there is nothing left to do anymore, that there is no other way left for either of us and we have tried everything to mend our broken bonds. Only then we'll tell each other that either of us wants out of this relationship.'

Has Daniel stopped feeling for him just like he himself? Is bringing Connor in our sex life really an attempt from his side to mend our relationship? Because just like Daniel said there are no secrets and cheating and if he hadn't told Evan that he wants to end this relationship then maybe it is the later.

Though the question remains if is there anything left to amend now when they both have fallen out of it?

*

Quickly finishing his house chores Evan picked up his laptop and walked out of the house closing and securing the doors. He covered the short journey to a nearby coffee house walking in just a few minutes, the weather as dark as always.

The medium-sized brass bell tinged as Evan entered through the brown polished door into a room filled with the sweet scent of freshly baked goods and the intoxicating bitter smell of brewing coffee.

He was greeted by the familiar smiles of familiar faces that looked at him with delight before going back to their work.

"Hey Evan about time, was wondering what held you up." A young man in his late twenties greeted Evan with a hug and a pat on the shoulder.

"Yeah, Daniel went out late today."

"Oh, anyway have your seat and I'll bring you your regular."

"Thanks, man," Evan said before moving to where he was pointed.

Sitting down he looked outside at the grey and purple clouds from the windows expecting a heavy shower any minute now. And sure enough soon the clear glass was assaulted with the sharp pitter-patter of round and tear-shaped raindrops followed by roaring thunder.

Blurring his vision to the outside world Evan was disturbed by the soft tap of the coffee cup and saucer touching the table followed by the scraping of chair legs twice by the man from earlier. He looked up at him and then at the coffee, bringing it to his lips he took a careful sip.

Only if he had looked a few seconds more, then Evan would have for sure recognized the two familiar faces running and hiding while laughing outside on the pavement.

"Thanks for the coffee, Steven."

(A/N) : Sorry, For some reason this chapter didn't sit well. The tune and dialogues are not in harmony. I don't know why but while proofreading I realized it. Pick out any mistakes you see, it will be a great help.

I hope the next one will be better.

Thanks for reading.

it went okay, the other chapters flowed better. I think a few commas are simply missing to separate the thoughts of the characters. as for story, I'm starting to dislike connor now, he doesn't have any feeling of remorse between the obvious thr uneasiness of Daniel and evan....at this point, I'm hoping evan jumps boat with someone else. also thanks for release😋
