Finally, when the assembly ended, the students were taken to their classrooms and we went to teach the first classes.
I definitely like the first day of school when we first met. It's always the same thing, say your name, age, what you like to do, blah, blah, blah... But I don't know why there's something magical about this day, even when classes of students know each other, many times they spend the entire vacation without meeting, and when that happens, the surprise is big for some people, of course... lol...
I enter my first class, a lovely sixth year, the students are curious and creative, I find myself thinking that everything is working out, and how happy I am to be in this place, meeting these people...
While the students are talking, introducing themselves and telling what they did, sometimes I get lost in my thoughts, remembering everything I went through to get here, and how it seems I was being prepared to get to this place today.
While I'm here feeling privileged for the life I have, a student calls my name, and it kind of wakes me up to reality, I smile, and they laugh back:
- May I help? How can I help? I ask not knowing exactly what they were talking about. They laugh even harder, however, my student repeats his question, he wants to know how old I am and why I chose to be an art teacher, and I tell the story I most enjoy telling in my life.
- Well, I'm 32 years old and I chose to be an art teacher because this is the only profession in the world that I can dress up to work and not be labeled crazy. Now I think they won't stop laughing anytime soon, and I love that sense of wonder they convey.
- Seriously guys, I continue, I'll still come to teach you wearing pajamas, you'll see! At this the break signal rings, as today is the first day of class the break will be extended so that students can have a better socialization as well as the teachers, so I head to the teachers' lounge, I'm looking forward to meeting my friends. new colleagues.
In the teachers' lounge, the questions don't change that much, the older teachers want to know why I chose to be a teacher when I still have my whole life ahead of me, the wealthy tell their vacations abroad, there's always someone who went camping and their vacation were a mixture of adventure and comedy, which makes everyone laugh in a nice moment of relaxation.
The director enters and makes the appropriate presentations, flanked by the pedagogical coordinator, that “adorable” woman. Again he mentions the Spring Festival, as if it were necessary to remind some professors of the importance of everyone's participation for the good of the institution, and well, for their ego, lol...
Among the random questions and the most surprising answers possible I find that I am the only single teacher on the staff, it takes me by surprise! How will it be now that I will be able to fit in with the other colleagues? Maybe that's a problem since I don't know many people. But after some thought I decide to take it as a challenge! I know I'll be able to get over this one!
When the bell rings again announcing that the break is over and that everyone must return to their respective rooms, there is the sound of protests from students who would surely love to spend a little more time chatting and seeing their friends.
My heart flutters knowing I'm going to meet the third-year class. I'm so looking forward to meeting them as it will be with them that I will stage and stage the play at the Spring Festival, and although we still have a lot of time for that I can't think of anything else, this is the most talked about topic in all times and everywhere.
• Calling all Angels – Lenny Kravitz
I leave the teachers' lounge and head towards the third-year classroom, still in the hallway I start to hear a noise that comes straight from the room I should enter. It feels like a song is playing, so I'm slowly moving closer to understand what's going on.
When I arrive at the classroom door I realize that a student has a speaker in his hands and his cell phone is playing a song, when I realize which music is playing I can't resist the smile that forms on my lips, after all these students should be babies on lap when Calling all Angels was recorded by Lenny Kravitz, and the student dances across the room, with moves more fun than beautiful.
I lean against the door frame following the reception I'm having, and enjoying every moment, I observe every detail of what happens to me, as if it were possible to photograph, so that I wouldn't miss any detail.
When a very handsome student approaches the boy and says something in his ear, to which he replies:
- Stop it J.P.! I'm just having a small reception for our dear art teacher. he turns towards me no, he bows and with a smile on his face continues.
- This year our class was very privileged, we are calling all the angels. He smiles even more and approaches me still talking.
- We really needed an intervention from heaven, and you, he takes one of my hands and kneels in front of me, and I can't control my enchantment, so I just smile sincerely.
- You teacher Angel, can you hear us from your cloud? When he finishes his speech all the other students are laughing too hard to pay attention to anything else, so he leads me to my desk and takes his seat.
When the students stop laughing I start to say:
- Good morning, class. First of all I would like to thank you very much for the reception you gave me, I'm really flattered! I bow to the class, imitating what the student had done before and continue:
- I was really looking forward to meeting your gang, due to the responsibility that we will assume together to make this Spring Festival the best ever! Students like what I say and interrupt me with a round of applause.
