HIS POV
In my entire life, the best memory was the time I went to hike with Austin, my childhood friend and Amara, his sister. Despite all the struggles up the mountain and the tedious journey, the peak was beautiful. The serene beauty was breathtaking. I couldn't find any words to describe it, but the scene in front of me was so immensely peaceful that I lost track of time, staring into the endless vast expanse of snow in front of me. Pines and cycads were covered in snow, each like a Christmas tree decorated by nature. Little birds chirped around us in the forest and a few squirrels scurried past as we made our way down the hill. Austin and Amara, each brought with them pinecones from the top for their parents but I… I did not. They would not like it and consider this ‘poor behavior’. I'd rather hide my childish desire than have them hate me any more than they already do. This was all over a decade ago. Soon after, mother succumbed to a heart attack and father and I never spent a moment together again, till I came of age. When I finally entered their majestic empire, the high-class elite world as the heir apparent, everyone flattered me and praised how lucky I was but only few knew how ‘truly lucky’ I was.
I never knew any difficulties in my life, they said. What difficulties they have been talking about I truly never had in my path but the difficulties I faced as a teenager and as a child, striving for my parents' love was perhaps laughable. An heir, but he could not even receive his parents' affection, they might comment. By the time I turned twenty, I had met my fair share of business rivals and enemies but none of their coldness could compare to that of my parents.
But soon the struggle came to an end when my father finally decided to pass on the business to me and retrieved himself into a secluded corner of the world. I took over charge and just like I had been taught, I began to expand my fast hold over the various economies of the world, building up my business. When I finally headed to New York for a business summit, my world came to a standstill. Assassins, ‘those people’ had sent. Despite my talent for business, fighting was something I could never do. I could maybe hit a couple of people or fire at them, but a dozen assassins were not my cup of tea.
An hour later with most of my bodyguards dead, I was left stranded in the streets. That was when I came across an angel. Perhaps she had come to escort me to the other world. Only it was not so.
