Taming The CEO's Tempting Wife
Chapter 4 - Centerpiece
Leah Lancaster
My, what a charming surprise.
Leah Lancaster
Why would the family be gathered at such a time? Is there an important issue that we must discuss?
Gwen Lancaster
Why are you dressed in such a promiscuous outfit?
The outfit that she viewed as offensive was a simple red dress with lace covering everything under my neck apart from my legs.
The dress wasn't even that short. It was the colour she didn't like.
Leah Lancaster
If I'm ever in need of wardrobe advice, I'll be sure to call for you, Aunt.
She went to snap back at me when my Grandfather put up his hand.
Robert Lancaster
Come here.
He beckoned me forward and I did so with fluidity and confidence.
Never lower your head to anyone. That's what she used to say...
As I approached him, his face remained as cold and unmoving as stone.
Robert Lancaster
What made you come back so late?
Leah Lancaster
I was playing with my friends.
He looked at me and turned his head before slapping me right across the face.
The pain stung my cheek, but I looked back up at the man who struck me and retained my composure.
Robert Lancaster
Play? This family does not play. If you want to be a part of it, remember that.
Who said anything about me wanting to be part of this cursed family?
All they care about are losses and profits. If you can't bring anything to the table, you might as well be furniture.
You might think because I have all of these connections that I'd be my grandfather's favourite.
But their ways of business are more traditional.
They don't believe a bond to be solid unless marriage is involved.
The only reason why they haven't sold me off to some rich old pervert yet is to assess my value.
What a bunch of baxtards...
My cheek still stung from where he had slapped me, but I retained my lordly composure, pushing forward my confident persona even further than advised.
Robert Lancaster
Behave yourself, and next time, perhaps we won't resort to our last option.
I snarled, looking right at the old man.
Leah Lancaster
You want to marry me off?
Robert Lancaster
That is correct. We've already got quite a few tempting offers.
Leah Lancaster
I see. A piece of paper between two strangers is more solid than a verbal agreement between trusted individuals?
Robert Lancaster
Marriage is a contract that isn't so easily broken.
Leah Lancaster
You and your old fashioned ideals...
Leah Lancaster
Try and marry me off. I dare you. In the meantime, I'm going to continue my so-called promiscuous behaviour and enjoy life while you all are caged by these ideals that you seem to treasure so much.
Robert Lancaster
This isn't a choice. This is your obligation.
Leah Lancaster
My obligation to what?
Robert Lancaster
Your obligation to the family.
If that's the case, then who the heck would want to be part of this so-called family?
Misty Plume
