The Offer

I pulled him in and he walked around feeling all of the fabrics. I asked him which one he liked the best and he replied, saying he liked the black and blue velvet.

"I could make you a suit if you wanted."

He nodded and asked when I would have it ready. I replied with enthusiasm that I could have it done in 5 or fewer days.  He looked on in amazement at the fabric saying,

"You can turn this heap piece of fabric into a suit?"I nodded and said, "If you want, you can choose what kind of decorations you want on it."

He asked me if he could have silvery timberwolf gray feathers outlining the edges of the suit and cuffs. I said I could but he would need to come with me to my room every time I worked on his suit.

"The suit itself won't take long, it's the decorations that will take the most time." He

dipped his head in acknowledgment.

"Kasar, can you stand over there in the middle of the room so I can take your measurements for the suit."

I pulled out my measuring tape from underneath the heap of clothes in the middle of the room. Kasar stood very still while I did his measurements, he was like a statue. I told him to get me the blue and black bolt of fabric from the pile. He grabbed it and handed it to me with care not to wrinkle the velvet. I cut the pieces from the bolt and put pins in the places where I needed to. I plucked a needle from my needle basket, I took a dark sparkly night blue thread, kissed him, and started to sew. I finished one of the sleeves and started on the other sleeve. I looked at Kasar who was watching with scrutiny,  watching my every move. When I finished the other sleeve I hemmed the sleeves with a silver thread.

"When are you going to put the feathers on? Shouldn't you do it now?"

"No, silly, the feathers could break and the suit might not fit. I would have to take the suit in or I would have to make it larger so we always wait to decorate."

Finishing the sleeves and part of the back of the suit I got up and stretched. It was very dark outside and I yawned and Kasar got up and said it would be best if he left so I could get some rest. I nodded sleepily and yawned again.

Kasar laughed softly, "You must be very tired," as I took another big yawn.

"I am tired and I think it is a good idea if you left. If you didn't leave I would probably want to finish the suit and then fit it. Who knows what kind of mistakes I would make trying to make the suit fit you."

Smiling softly he picked me up off of my stool and placed me underneath the soft warm cover of my bed. Sighing with contentment I looked at Kasar and gave a kiss on the cheek and said good night Kasar see you in the morning. He kissed me on the cheek and I heard him walk quietly across the floor, his boots clicking softly, the gentle creak of the door being shut, and the click of the latch hooking on the door. Then I fell asleep. The last sounds I heard that night were of the crickets chirping and the soft swish of the curtains in the breeze.
